Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 - review, main processor characteristics, list of smartphones, results in Antutu and GeekBench benchmarks

Not long ago, Qualcomm renamed the Snapdragon 618 and 620 processors. Now they are called Snapdragon 650 and 652. Thus, the company tried to show a significant difference in performance compared to the 615, 616 and 617. Today the company introduced new processors 625, 435, 425 and Wear 2100. This time without simple renaming, these are full-fledged new processors.

Snapdragon 625

The Snapdragon 625 is a continuation of the Snapdragon 617 and runs on a 14nm process. Qualcomm says the chip consumes 35% less power than the Snapdragon 617, which will allow the smartphone to last longer on a single battery charge.

The Snapdragon 625 has eight 64-bit Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2 GHz, the chip is equipped with a fast X9 LTE Cat modem. 7 (download speed reaches 300 Mbit/s), Adreno 506 video accelerator, support for 4K video recording and playback. The chip supports resolutions up to 24 MP for the rear camera and 13 MP for the front camera, as well as LPDDR3 memory.

Wear 2100

This could have been the end of it, but another interesting chip remained unnoticed - Wear 2100. As you may have guessed, the company developed it specifically for smartwatches. Nowadays, most Android Wear smartwatches are powered by the Snapdragon 400 processor, but the processor is designed with smartphones in mind, so it's not a good idea to use it in a smartwatch, and Qualcomm knows that.

The main features of Wear 2100 are the small chip size and increased energy efficiency. According to the company, the chip is 30% smaller in size than the Snapdragon 400 and consumes 25% less power. The Wear 2100 also has a small sensor hub that allows you to get more accurate sensor data.

Wear 2100 has 4 Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz, Adreno 304 video chip. LG is expected to present the first watch based on Wear 2100 this year.

InFocus M810t - affordable phablet with snapdragon 801

The InFocus M810t is an excellent smartphone that is just starting to gain popularity. There is still not much information on it on the Internet, so I decided to prepare a detailed review. The new product deserves attention, because at a relatively low cost, the manufacturer equipped it with a powerful qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. In addition, the smartphone boasts an excellent Full HD screen made by Sharp, a good camera and a chic design. Don't forget that InFocus is assembled at one of Foxconn's factories, namely FIH Mobile. Foxconn is the world's largest electronics manufacturer (their factories produce iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Motorola, Nokia, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc.), and this indicates high build quality. However, there are some features: the device supports work with only one SIM card (unusual for Chinese manufacturers), and also has a small battery capacity for its diagonal. In the review: photos and description of appearance and configuration, description of functions, tests of performance, autonomy, GPS operation, examples of photos and videos taken with a smartphone camera, features of various firmware, instructions for updating to Lollipop, Russification and much more. All photos in the review are clickable (click on the photo to enlarge). In general, if you are interested in details, please see cat. For those not familiar with the technical specifications:

A small box with a company logo on a black background looks serious. The detailed characteristics of the model are indicated on the back.

The equipment, like most serious manufacturers, is minimal. In addition to the smartphone, in the box you can find a USB cable, a charger and a key for removing the trays. Although there is an interesting point: the plug on the charger is for American sockets, and under the phone I found the necessary adapter. The strange thing is that the box was closed, with tamper-evident stickers on the sides. That is, either the store puts the stickers on after checking the smartphones (and at the same time reports the adapters), or the adapter was installed at the factory (which is unlikely). There are no additional goodies included. But this is not a problem, because Ali also has a huge selection of covers, bumpers, films, protective glasses and other things. The trick is that the model has been sold in India for a long time and manufacturers have managed to release a huge number of accessories.

The charger states that it can charge up to 1A. Having checked the USB tester, I saw that the maximum current was slightly less - 850 mAh. This is not enough for a 2640 mA battery, so the smartphone takes quite a long time to charge – about 4 hours.

The smartphone itself looks great. Rounded corners and small thickness are this year’s trend. The smartphone looks very prestigious thanks to the deep black color on the front and back and the golden rim. The screen, like the back, is covered with high-strength protective glass Gorilla Glass 3, the surface of which has an oleophobic coating. The frame is made of aluminum.

At the top we see the earpiece. To the left is the front camera. At the bottom we see another conversational speaker... Just kidding) In fact, this is the main audio speaker through which music and sounds are played. It’s just that the engineers creating the phone came up with such an unusual move. This turned out to be quite practical. If the smartphone is lying on the table, the sound is not blocked. In addition, it is convenient to watch videos and play, because the sound is directed at you. An event indicator is also located at the bottom. It can shine in 3 colors: red, blue and green. A specific event is programmed for each color. It cannot be changed or reconfigured.

On the left side there are trays that can be removed using a special key.:) One slot is for a SIM card, the second for a memory card. We can talk a lot about why they didn’t make a slot for a second SIM card. But the reality is that many people use only one operator for both calls and the Internet. But in terms of autonomy, the smartphone only benefited from this, because it serves only one SIM card - the device’s operating time in standby mode (in a 3G network) is up to 430 hours. And the talk time (on a 3G network) is up to 10 hours. Information taken from the official website. In reality, it’s hard to check this, because it’s impossible to just make calls on such a functional device, and games drain the battery pretty quickly. But purely from my personal feelings, the battery holds up well, but more on autonomy a little later.

On the right side we see a round lock button and a certain protrusion highlighting the volume buttons. I didn’t manage to get used to it right away; it was difficult to touch the desired button, sometimes I pressed on the edge of the protrusion instead (to no avail, of course). But literally after a few days muscle memory kicked in and volume control stopped being annoying.

All connectors are located at the bottom. Standard audio jack for headphones and micro USB with OTG function. The microphone is also clearly visible. And there is another microphone, which acts as a noise canceller, on the top edge. Touch buttons under the screen with milky white backlight. The backlight is pleasant, not too bright. True, it lights up simultaneously with the screen: that is, if you watch a movie, the backlight will be on all the time, and this can be distracting. The problem is clearly a software one, many people are complaining about it, so I’m sure it will be fixed soon.

Turn it on and admire the screen. The rich and detailed Full HD picture looks nice. Color rendition is natural. In the settings you can select the color temperature; the default is neutral, but in my opinion it deviates towards the warm side - the screen turns a little yellow. I like it, but if you want a truly neutral color rendering, it's better to select the Cool mode. There is also Warm, but the shades there are even warmer.

According to information from the store, a display manufactured by Sharp is installed here. The picture looks distortion-free from any angle.

The brightness reserve is quite large. It behaves well outdoors; at high brightness settings the screen is readable in direct sunlight.

Let's move on to the operation of the smartphone. Initially, the smartphone came with Android 4.4.2 firmware, but immediately offered to update to Android 5.0.2. The update weighs more than 800 MB and is downloaded over the air. But during installation an error pops up. Therefore, it must be installed manually. However, I took my time and decided to test InFocus on each firmware to determine where it works better. In addition, there were fears that Android 5.0.2 would be stock, without many of the various “interesting things” that the manufacturer used in KitKat. The firmware has been modified by the manufacturer, icons and menus have been changed and various useful functions have been added. Desktops look like this:

Settings

Menu

A pleasant surprise was the presence of root.

The music player has been slightly redesigned, and the phone itself has a built-in equalizer. The sound is very decent. Bass lovers will be especially pleased - the sound is not weak; cheap headphones simply start to choke at high volumes. To truly appreciate the sound you need good, powerful headphones.

The camera also has a huge number of settings and preset modes.

The firmware has been translated to 90%. The main functions are completely Russified, but what the manufacturer has changed is in English. However, it is not difficult to understand; some points have a description with pictures.

In the settings, you can change the launcher and turn on the “granny phone” mode, where everything is extremely simple and large.

Next, it was decided to test the performance. In Antutu, the smartphone produces excellent results.

Live performance was tested on popular games: Asphalt 8, Terminator 3, Lara Croft. All games were launched at maximum graphics settings; there was not a hint of stuttering during games. The smartphone can be considered a gaming smartphone.

But when playing for a long time, the smartphone does not heat up slightly. After half an hour of playing on the asphalt, the back of the smartphone and the metal frame were hot. The Snapdragon 801 is a very powerful processor for a mobile device, and the heating problem has been known for a long time. The positive point is that the metal frame itself is a kind of radiator and heat is transferred not only to the back cover, but also to it, thereby cooling better. I became interested in finding out the processor temperature and installed a special program. In rest mode or light loads, the processor temperature is 35 degrees. I draw your attention to the fact that this is the processor temperature, since the phone is absolutely cool. But under intense load, such as gaming, the temperature begins to rise. The maximum observed temperature after a long game (more than an hour) was 74 degrees on the processor and 40 degrees on the battery, while the phone was significantly warm, the frame was rather even hot.

By the way, the smartphone has an energy saving function, which, among other things, can reduce the processor frequency, thereby reducing heating. After turning it on, the smartphone began to heat up noticeably less, and at the same time, all tested games continued to work normally.

The next thing I checked was the connection and wireless interfaces. The quality and volume of the speaker are high, the signal reception level is good. 3G works correctly (tested at frequency 2100). WiFi - reliable reception within the apartment. But there were some minor problems with GPS. InFocus can find GPS, GLONASS and BEIDOU satellites. There were no problems with GPS at all; it finds about 10 satellites almost instantly, after which GLONASS and BEIDOU are picked up. The total number of satellites found is from 18 to 22, of which 11 -15 are connected. But periodically (every couple of minutes) GLONASS and BEIDOU fall off, after which only GPS remains. Then after a few seconds they appear again, then fall off again, and so on constantly. At the same time, the positioning accuracy shows about 3 meters. Although on the road he behaves inappropriately and sometimes gets lost. I’ll say right away that this is a firmware problem, after updating to the “candy” the problem went away.

The last thing I checked on KitKat was battery life. Since the battery is not removable, it is not possible to double-check the capacity using Imax, but the usb tester indirectly confirms the capacity poured into the switched off phone is about 2800 mAh. (extra, these are losses). In Antutu battery tester the result is modest, only 4691 points. The test lasted 3 hours.

It is worth noting that the stock firmware from the store has various incomprehensible applications installed, and the antivirus dr. The Web even cursed at the malicious software. Therefore, I did not delay the update.

But installing it turned out to be not so easy. It downloaded, but I didn’t want to install it. Having suffered a little, I finally set it to manual and prepared a small instruction

, to make this process easier for you. The archive with the firmware and the SdFormatter application can be downloaded here.

Step-by-step instructions for updating

: 1. First you need to prepare a memory card by formatting it using the SdFormatter program (available in the archive) 2. Upload the original firmware from the archive to the root of the memory card.
3. We reboot the smartphone, it detects it itself and offers to update. We agree. The firmware takes about 10 minutes, followed by the first lengthy download. 4. After downloading, we see the firmware updated to Android 5.0.2. All old programs remain, like the Russian language, but it is best to do a hard reset - reset to factory settings. 5. After the reset, the Russian language and unnecessary (old) applications disappear. 6. To install the Russian language, download from the Morelocale 2 market 7. Next, we perform the following steps (taken from 4PDA) Russification
1. Enable “Developer options” on the phone by clicking on the firmware version 5 times (a new item will appear in the menu), there turn on the debugging mode “USB Debugging mode” (check the box) 2 Download the adb archive here and unpack it to the root of drive C so that the files from it are in C:\adb 3. Start-Run, cmd 4. Enter the code cd c:\ there adb\ 5. Connect the phone to the PC via a USB cable. 6. Check if adb sees the phone Code: adb devices There should be a review: List of devices attached HT35BW****** device 6. Launch adb shell Code: adb shell 7. See what the morelocale package is called in the system Code: pm list packages morelocale The system response should appear: package:jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale 8. We distribute permission Code: pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION We receive the system response: cale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION If an error was made in the command, the system will post help via pm.

8. In morelocale2 select Russian language. 9. If Russian is not available, then add it to morelocale through the settings (specify the region RU, RU) 10. Android is Russified.

Next, check the new firmware and compare it with the previous one. And let's start with the best part: my fears were not confirmed and the firmware is not stock Android, but the same modified version. Dr Web does not swear at the virus (it no longer exists), in addition to what was already there, new applications have been added. An Infocus folder has appeared with various “useful things”. There is also a folder with all the necessary Google applications.

The pop-up menu and settings have changed to match the style of Android 5, but otherwise the interfaces remain the same.

Some may find applications such as power detective or mobile assistant useful. With their help, you can monitor the processor, temperature, energy consumption, application activity, etc. But I noticed that they load the processor quite well, not allowing it to “sleep” normally, so I turned it off, after which the operating time of the smartphone increased.

Let's move on to the tests. The first one is Antutu benchmark. Productivity increased: instead of 42,000, he began to gain 44,000.

The performance gain is also visible in Geekbench 3.

As we can see, the smartphone outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Xiaomi Mi4, which are much more expensive. epic citadel

Now let's see how GPS work has changed. And she has changed for the better. Now Glonass and the Chinese navigation system do not fall off. The signal became stable and navigation became comfortable to use. In Yandex navigator and navitel it drives normally and reports turns on time.

But the most pleasant thing was the increase in battery life; now Antutu tester shows the following results:

In real-life use, the smartphone easily lasts for 3 days, if you do not load the processor with resource-intensive applications. But if you load it with games or other heavy tasks, it only lasts a day. But this is not surprising, given the processor power and screen diagonal. In Real Racing 3, the smartphone reaches zero in just under 3 hours. Do you like to play? Then you need a power bank or an outlet, you have to pay for everything... In any case, the update to Android 5.0.2 is justified, the smartphone reveals itself much more, the main problems have been removed, the operating time and productivity have increased.

The last thing worth mentioning is the camera. A couple of days ago there was a good review where we examined the camera in detail, so I won’t post many photos. My opinion is that the camera is pretty good, especially considering the price. Autofocus is very fast and most photos come out sharp. It copes well with both portrait and landscape photography. Macro photography works great. In low light conditions, noise appears. In night photography, a double LED flash can help, but only when shooting from 1 - 2 meters. Here are a few pictures as an example (photos reduced by 2 times, originals):

Video can be recorded in Full HD resolution at a speed of 30 frames per second. MP4 format. The microphone is sensitive. Here's an example:

I also bring to your attention a video version of the review on Android 4.4.2 firmware

And after updating to Android 5.0.2 (comparison and highlights)

Let's summarize: the smartphone deserves attention and is a good competitor to note smartphones. Main positive aspects: + Powerful snapdragon 801 processor with high performance + Excellent design, materials and build quality + High-quality display + Sound in headphones + Sony Exmor R, F2.2 camera

Some disadvantages: - It gets hot under high load (a feature of the processor) - The button backlight is constantly on (should be fixed)

Disadvantages in comparison with competitors: - Works with only one SIM card

Alternative: Slightly less productive, but with a larger battery capacity, excellent GPS performance - Umi Emax ($157.99). You can also pay attention to Lenovo K3 Note, Meizu M2 Note.

In general, the smartphone has great potential; it is just gaining popularity, so it should be further developed over time. But now on Android 5.0.2 firmware it is a completely stable product, the main advantage of which is high performance and well-implemented multimedia functions. That's all, thank you for your attention!
