Software

The lock screen displays a different wallpaper each time. If you use a fingerprint scanner or facial recognition, you may not see them. These mechanisms work quite quickly. By default, all applications are shown on the home screen. You can put a list of applications in the settings.

Huawei sticks to its own software and has installed apps like Gallery and Music. Huawei Health is missing, but you can download it from the store. Cameras

The rear camera is dual and quite simple. The main sensor has a resolution of 13 megapixels, an auxiliary sensor of 2 megapixels for portrait photography. A smartphone at this price can't have fancy triple cameras, a black and white camera, zoom or Leica lenses.

The main camera has an f/2.2 aperture and a focal length of 25 mm. There is phase detection autofocus, but no stabilization. A single LED flash helps you shoot in the dark.

The camera application is typical for Huawei devices, as on the flagship P20 models. There is a switch to activate the flash, aperture mode, decoration mode, and switch between the front and rear cameras. Photos and videos receive separate viewfinders. A gesture on the left opens additional shooting modes, and on the right gives access to settings.

The image quality is not the highest, the photos lack clarity and have a lot of noise. Dynamic range is also quite limited. The colors are vibrant but not too saturated.

Switching to HDR mode doesn't make much of a difference. The bright areas are slightly restored and nothing happens to the dark ones. Aperture mode supports bokeh effect with background blur. The default aperture here is f/4.0. The result is quite high-quality outdoors; indoors there are more problems with recognizing objects and separating them from the background.

The screen brightness is very low, the photo quality is mediocre, the battery is slow to charge and discharges quite quickly.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 looks like a more interesting purchase. There's a brighter, sharper 1080p screen in the same size, a more powerful Snapdragon 600 series processor, and better battery life.
