Affordable new HTC product
HTC has announced a new smartphone, the R70, part of the classic Wildfire series, first launched in 2010 but then abandoned for almost 10 years. Unlike the first representatives of the series, which were positioned as youth fashion devices, the R70 is an extremely budget entry-level smartphone.
HTC did not disclose the cost of its new product, but shared detailed information about its specifications, based on which we can conclude that it will be a very cheap smartphone. Among its “classmates” it stands out due to its increased battery capacity and the presence of four cameras, three of which are combined in the main unit on the rear panel. At the same time, it is characterized by a fairly large elongated display with thin frames on the sides and top.
HTC is not yet pleased with the announcements of full-fledged flagship smartphones
The WildFire R70 will be available at retail in two plastic body colors – blue and black. The start date for sales has not been set, but, according to the Gsmarena resource, the release will take place before the end of March 2020.
New HTC 2020
HTC is often the center of attention on technology portals around the world. And this is not surprising - the press constantly gets rumors about upcoming communicators, or announcements of the new products themselves, which are always distinguished by their innovation. In fact, innovation is the main distinguishing feature of HTC products.
It was HTC that was the first to release a device based on Microsoft's OS back in 2002, and it was they who were the first to use a high-quality audio system in their phones (Beats Audio). Until now, the company is considered a leader in the production of mobile devices based on Windows OS - most recently, their 8x communicator was awarded the Red Dot Award for the best technological design. HTC was the first to release a device with a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p. And this year the company presented the world with its HTC One communicator, which uses a new camera resolution with larger pixels, which improves the camera's light sensitivity and image quality.
Today, when simply improving the characteristics of a phone no longer provides a competitive advantage, HTC products become even more interesting: the company tirelessly finds new solutions that have no analogues in the world. In addition, unlike other companies, HTC is distinguished by a wide range of models: usually, along with flagship models, they also produce mid-range models and so-called “budget” models that complement the series of devices. Moreover, HTC announces new products every few months, which makes the company a “tidbit” for the world press.
In 2020, the company continued its tradition of producing high-quality smartphones. The most interesting of them today is the HTC One M9.
The flagship of 2020 was the HTC 10 smartphone.
Several U series models were released in 2020: HTC U11, HTC U11 life, HTC U11 Plus, HTC U Ultra (64 GB), HTC U Play. The One X10 and Desire 650 also went on sale. In 2020, the brand pleased fans with the flagship HTC U12 Plus, which was mentioned above. HTC Desire 12 did not have an interesting design, but still attracted the attention of buyers. The Desire 12s model with NFC was also released. In February, U11 EYEs Dual SIM appeared on store shelves. In August, a smartphone with an original U12 life design was released, which received many positive reviews.
Both in 2020 and in 2020, the company produced both budget models and expensive flagships. Powerful battery for a cheap smartphone
The HTC WildFire R70 is equipped with a 4000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, the presence of which increased its total weight to 189 grams and did not allow the body to be made thinner. The thickness of the smartphone was 8.9 millimeters with a width of 78 mm and a height of 163 mm.
The smartphone battery does not support fast charging - no more than 10 W (5 volts, 2 amperes). The USB-C port is also missing - instead it uses an outdated microUSB 2.0 connector.

The large dimensions of the WildFire R70 are also due to the presence of an IPS display with a diagonal of 6.35 inches, and this is larger than that of the flagship 6.35-inch smartphone Huawei P40 Lite, announced a few days ago. The matrix has a resolution of 1560x720 pixels (HD+ format) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The bottom of the screen is “decorated” by a large “chin” without the logo of the development company and touch control buttons, and on top there is a small teardrop-shaped cutout. In total, the screen occupies about 82.4% of the front panel of the case.

HTC Desire 12, which was released in March 2018-2019, received the honor of opening our rating. It has a rather primitive appearance and because of this, identifying the HTC Desire 12 as a specific model is quite difficult. The gadget has a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels. The heart of the HTC Desire 12 is the MediaTek MT6739, which is assisted by 2 or 3 GB of RAM. The storage capacity also varies – 16 or 32 GB. Main camera – 13 MP, front – 5 MP. Battery capacity – 2730 mAh.
We must admit that the smartphone turned out to be, although not ideal, quite good for its segment. It is clear that in terms of the combination of characteristics and price, it will not be able to compete with products from Xiaomi, but nevertheless. Among the main advantages of the smartphone, we note a good screen. The matrix is calibrated in the best possible way and thanks to this, the image on the display is detailed and rich, despite the low resolution. The HTC Desire 12 has no serious disadvantages; you can only find fault with the processor. Of course, people who are only interested in everyday tasks will be happy with them, but those who like to play demanding games will not find the best performance.

Cameras
The WildFire R70's notch houses an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. This smartphone does not have an additional front sensor, nor does it have a flash.

The main camera module in the new HTC product is located in the upper left corner of the rear panel and has a vertical orientation, like most smartphones in 2020 and 2020. The base sensor has a resolution of 16 megapixels, an f/1.75 aperture, and 1.4 micron pixels), and it is complemented by two 2 megapixel sensors with an f/2.4 aperture, where the first is needed for macro photography, and the second is used for measurement frame depth when blurring the background.
The front and main cameras can record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second, but only the main one has HDR and panorama modes. It also has an LED flash.
Processor, memory and software
The basis of the HTC WildFire R70 is a 16-nanometer MT6763 processor from the Taiwanese company MediaTek, known as Helio P23. This chip includes a dual-core Mali G71 MP2 video card and eight Cortex A53 processing cores with a clock speed of up to 2.5 GHz. The video card frequency is 770 MHz. The processor contains Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS and GPS receivers, Bluetooth 4 and Wi-Fi 802.11n modules and a Cat 13 LTE modem.
The smartphone's RAM capacity is 2 GB, but HTC does not indicate its type (the processor supports both LPDDR3 and the more modern LPDDR4X). The built-in storage is a 32 GB eMMC 5.1 module.
WildFire R70 supports the installation of microSD cards, but its SIM card tray is hybrid - either two nanoSIMs, or one SIM card and one memory card.
The new HTC smartphone received the latest firmware - Android 9 Pie, although Android 10 was released back in August 2020. It also has a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel and a separate headphone input.
History of the WildFire line
The Wildfire line became a continuation of the Tattoo series, and the first HTC Wildfire smartphone, which went on sale in June 2010, was christened a mini version of Desire smartphones (a series of inexpensive full-size HTC gadgets). The monoblock was characterized by a considerable amount of RAM by 2010 standards, 384 MB, and a 1300 mAh battery, which, coupled with a small screen that consumed relatively little energy, provided it with a long operating time without recharging. The dimensions of the original HTC Wildfire were 107x60x12 mm and weighed 118 grams.
Windfire S, the latest classic in the series
Wildfire's descendant, called Wildfire S, was announced in February 2011 and went on sale three months later, in May 2011. Compared to its predecessor, it became even more compact and lighter (101x59x12 mm, 105 grams), but lost a little in battery capacity (1230 mAh).
WIldFire E debuted more than eight years after the release of Wildfire S
The Wildfire S was for many years the latest member of the Wildfire series. HTC, as reported by CNews, decided to relaunch it in July 2020, and in September 2020, the Wildfire E all-in-one PC went on sale. Compared to the WildFire R70, it was an even more budget device: a 5.45-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 ×720 pixels and the widest frames, 28-nanometer Unisoc SC9863A processor with a frequency of up to 1.6 GHz (Cortex-A55), 3000 mAh battery, 5-megapixel front camera and dual main module 13+2 MP.

#4 – HTC Desire 12+
Price: 15,000 rubles
The older brother of the HTC Desire 12 smartphone has a 6-inch diagonal screen with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels. In place of the processor there is a Snapdragon 450, working together with 3 GB of RAM. The storage capacity is 32 GB. The main camera with a dual 13+2 MP module and an 8 MP front camera are responsible for the quality of photos and videos. Autonomy is the prerogative of the 2965 mAh battery.
Like the regular Desire 12, the plus version is equipped with a good screen. An interesting fact is that the developers decided to leave the same resolution despite the increase in diagonal. This did not affect the quality of the picture - it is just as wonderful and juicy. In terms of performance, Desire 12+ looks much more confident due to the processor. Although it is not the most modern, it can handle most games without difficulty. It is clear that in demanding projects you will still have to lower the graphics settings, but this is not so critical.
