BlackBerry launches Evolve and Evolve X smartphones

In mid-October, sales of the next batch of new products from BlackBerry started. BlackBerry Evolve is one of the new products of 2020. The model has the classic design of a modern BlackBerry. A large 6″ inch IPS display with a resolution of 2160x1080 produces clear images that will be convenient to work with. BlackBerry Evolve is already quite popular, the first batch was sold out in a few days. Why do users love BlackBerry Evolve? Buyers appreciated 2-3 days of battery life, a 16MP front camera for Selfie and a 13MP main dual camera capable of taking high-quality photos, support for two SIM cards, as well as the modern Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with the latest security updates from BlackBerry and features , which are not found in other smartphones.

A big contribution to the rise of popularity in the business segment in 2018 was made by the KEYone, Motion and KEY2 models, which were presented less than a year ago.

In this review, we tried to collect all the latest information about the new product. So, let's begin.

Design

BlackBerry Evolve has a stylish design. Its dimensions are 158.9 x 76.1 x 8.4 mm, the device weighs 170 grams. Aluminum body, black matte finish, rounded corners, so the device does not seem bulky in the hand.

On the bottom of the display there is the inscription “BlackBerry”, on the top: a speaker, a front camera, a flash for “Selfie”, an LED indicator, a proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor.

On the bottom edge there are stereo speakers, a microphone and a USB type C connector. On the top edge there is a 3.5 mm Audio Jack headphone input. Owner reviews of BlackBerry Evolve

Advantages:

-Large high-quality display, your eyes don’t get tired while reading. -Large battery capacity, even if actively used, lasts for more than a day while the iPhone or Blackberry Prive is already charging. -There is a fingerprint scanner (I personally don’t use it) -High-quality assembly. -Blackberry chips -High-quality microphone and speaker -2 SIM cards (the tray is combined with a memory card) Personally, I don’t use either one yet. -Optimal processor (more details in the comments)

Flaws:

-The camera, yes the camera is of course specific, it says 2 x 13 MP, but in fact, even one selfie camera takes better photos. But, if you download a third-party application on the market, the camera takes much better pictures. And there aren’t very many camera settings themselves. -Lack of OS updates (but this is not certain) is currently 8.1

A comment:

Before that, I used iPhone 7 and Blackberry Prive. Of course, compared to Android 6.0.1, which costs in Prive, it’s just super. But as I understand, there will be no OS updates, but there are security updates, which in theory will be available within 2 years. The camera, of course, disappointed, but after downloading the application from the market it works better, it also takes high-quality landscapes, but compared to Privo it’s worse, there’s no point in even comparing it with an iPhone. Personally, I don’t really need a camera, especially since there is another device with a better camera. The display is large and of high quality, the only thing is that it is sometimes too sensitive, or I touch my hands too much, at least when watching a video on YouTube, it happens that it switches to another video or skips. The processor here is Dragon 450, but in fact it’s 625 (if I’m not mistaken), it’s just cut down for the sake of autonomy. As for lags, freezes and low performance, this was not noticed, the average processor successfully copes with its tasks, of course, it is unlikely to run top-end games at maximum speed, but for ordinary use it is a very good percentage. They often ask where this device is made, the answer is it was made in India, it is written on the device itself and the packaging. The assembly is very high quality, and every detail of the package is packaged in beautiful boxes with Blackberry symbols, even a paperclip for removing SIM cards. This device differs from other devices, because others are made by TCL, and this one is made by another company from India. And we can rather say that this device was created specifically for India, but in the Russian Federation it is possible to buy such an exclusive one. Although this is already the 6th device of the blackberry company and I can say with confidence that any Blackberry device is made of very high quality. But still, whatever one may say, the real blackberry had its own OS and Mexican and probably Canadian assembly. If you have any questions, write.

Operating system and processor

The model runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and is equipped with a 1.8GHz 8-core Snapdragon 450 processor, 64GB of internal memory and 4GB of RAM.

This processor belongs to the energy-saving class of processors. And monthly update patches will protect you from malware. Thanks to 8-core technology, a smartphone with this processor can handle almost any task.

BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X turned out to be average without physical keyboards

As expected, on August 2, 2020, BlackBerry presented its new smartphones: Evolve and Evolve X. However, the presentation date is the only thing that coincided with the rumors. Many believed that the new products would receive sub-flagship filling. But not only did the smartphones turn out to be average, but they also lack physical keyboards - one of the main features of BlackBerry devices.

The best Telegram channel about technology (possibly)

Externally, Evolve and Evolve X are almost completely identical. The differences between them lie in the technical characteristics. The basic model, represented by Evolve, received the top-end processor of the budget series - Snapdragon 450, 4 GB of RAM and a main camera with regular and monochrome matrices. The Evolve X has better hardware: a top mid-price segment processor represented by the Snapdragon 660 (its performance is comparable to that of the Snapdragon 820, the flagship chipset of 2020), 6 GB RAM, a main camera with an additional telephoto lens used for 2x optical zoom. Both smartphones support user face recognition, which is controlled by the front camera.

    The powerful battery can last more than two days with active use, thanks to an energy-efficient processor that consumes little energy.

    - 21 days standby time - 24 hours talk time - 45 hours listening time

    Camera Specifications

    The main camera of the BlackBerry Evolve has a resolution of 12.98 MP, which is not a high figure for 2020 (the average for 2017-2020 is ≈ 18.49 MP).

    However, it is worth understanding that not only megapixels are important for a camera, but also the size of the matrix and aperture.

    The aperture allows the amount of light that can enter the sensor through the lens. The index of the degree of opening of the shutter in the reviewed smartphone is f/2, the lower, the better the pictures in low light (evening city, candles, dim light in the room...).

    ≈ f/1.93

    - average of phones 2017-2020.

    Among similar models there are options with better indicators, for example:

    1. Samsung Galaxy J3 V 3th Gen (2018) - f/1.9, 7.99 MP;
    2. Samsung Galaxy M20 (2019) - f/1.9, 12.78 MP;
    3. Motorola Moto G7 (2019) - f/1.8, 12.58 MP;
    4. Samsung Galaxy M10 (2019) - f/1.9, 12.78 MP;
    5. Motorola Moto G7 Plus (2019) - f/1.7, 15.93 MP;
    6. Asus ZenFone Max Shot (2019) - f/1.8, 12 MP;
    7. Huawei Y7 Prime 2020 (2019) - f/1.8, 12.98 MP;

    The analogs provided above take better photos in low light than the BlackBerry Evolve.

    If you are choosing a smartphone with a good camera, we recommend considering models that have two or more main camera modules, this can significantly improve the quality of your pictures.

    Unique Features

    The BlackBerry Evolve has a number of features that other smartphones don't have. Let's list them.

    Split Screen

    Picture-in-picture is a very convenient feature on BlackBerry, although it should be noted that some manufacturers make this feature on Android, but so far they are in the minority. Naturally, there is nothing like this on the iPhone.

    This is the necessary functionality; you can watch videos in the car and monitor the navigator. Split screen is the only way to do this.

    Privacy Shade

    This application allows you to darken the active smartphone screen if necessary and display only the desired area. The program allows you to set two types of area: a horizontal stripe and a circular area, and also allows you to set three sizes for the viewed areas.

    The operating principle of the BlackBerry Privacy Shade application is not based on data encryption, but on its simple visual hiding from unauthorized persons targeting the screen of your gadget. The program's tools allow you to darken the display, making it virtually unreadable to people nearby. At the user's discretion, Private Shade will leave the area of the screen necessary for working with the device highlighted.

    LED indicator

    You can see that a notification has arrived on your smartphone that you missed, so you don’t have to look at the device screen all the time, because.
    you can just look at your BlackBerry and see if the LED is blinking and if it is, open the screen and look at the notification. At first glance, it seems like an insignificant function and its functionality can be replaced, for example, with a notification/flash, a kind of crutch from the iPhone that does not have an LED notification indicator.

    But this is a really handy feature. You can assign your own color to the LED indicator individually for each notification.

    For example:

    • WhatsApp - green
    • Important Email – red

    Seven LED colors are available:

    • White
    • Red
    • Yellow
    • Green
    • Blue
    • Blue
    • Violet

    DTEK

    DTEK by BlackBerry - The DTEK app is designed to provide monitoring and tips for maximum security. Additionally, DTEK gives you control over what your apps do with different resolutions. Has an app tried to access your microphone without your knowledge? DTEK will alert you about this. The recent update also brought a new interface and new features! Including Proactive Health, which allows you to scan your device and instantly receive a report on potential vulnerabilities and opportunities to optimize your security system.

    Style in every detail

    Evolve is equipped with a proprietary back cover with a corrugated soft-touch plastic surface, the exact same material as in the KEYone, thanks to which the device fits tightly in the hand.

    BlackBerry has focused its efforts on producing both touchscreen and keyboard-based smartphones. The focus is on safety and work productivity. The company uses energy-saving mid-range processors in order to achieve the maximum level of operation of its devices without recharging.
