Main features of transformers
We recommend buying a transformable tablet if you need it for working with documents and regular correspondence. Of course, a modern virtual keyboard offers fairly convenient typing. But it won't provide you with tactile feedback. When working with a real QWERTY keyboard, you always feel whether you have pressed a particular key. And you always see which symbols are located on each button.
Any transformable tablet-laptop has another important advantage. Inside its docking station there is usually an extra battery. It allows you to significantly increase battery life. Often additional connectors are built into the keyboard. For example, some models boast one or even two full-size USB ports - they can be used to connect peripherals without using adapters.
Why are such tablets called transformers? Everything is very simple. When you connect a keyboard, you get the equivalent of a laptop. But the keyboard can be detached at any time - then you will use a traditional tablet, controlling it using the touch display. It is very comfortable.
What you should know when purchasing a tablet-laptop
If you are planning to purchase a laptop that turns into a tablet, or you already own one, you need to know a few nuances of its use. Directly at the point of purchase, it is recommended to check the device for play in the places where the tablet connects to the docking station. In addition, you need to carefully look at the location, as well as the sound quality of the speakers, and, of course, at the housing material. The most common breakdowns of transformable tablets are related to the display, because the docking station hits it. For this reason, immediately after purchasing a tablet, worry about timely purchasing a soft, but at the same time durable case (you can make a unique case with your own hands for your specific device).
But the development of technology does not stand still, and if previously transformers worked noticeably worse than full-fledged laptops, in recent years several models have appeared that have something to brag about. Let's look at the most popular and technically interesting transformable tablets.

Tablet that transforms into a laptop: Video
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Tablet
This device can be considered the most popular and beloved by the public today. It was created first of its kind, and still remains the best, constantly improving, but maintaining the palm. One of the latest and successful models is ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T. If we talk about the technical characteristics of the device, then it is noticeably ahead of competitors’ devices, judge for yourself:
- Built-in memory of 64 GB;
- Processor 4 cores (1.6 GHz);
- Display diagonal 10.1 inches;
- Weight is only half a kilogram.
The 2-in-1 laptop-tablet ASUS TF700T has a large number of analogues, including a version with Windows 8, thanks to which its popularity is constantly growing, and in countries all over the world.
Laptops that have a rotating screen - from Fujitsu and ASUS
In general, Fujitsu is, so to speak, a pioneer in the world of transformable laptops. The most successful model of this brand can be considered LIFEBOOK T900, which is equipped with a rotating screen. The laptop comes in several configurations at once. The top-end ones contain a built-in powerful processor, as much as 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a 13-inch touch screen. The main disadvantage of this device can be considered its impressive dimensions and heavy weight - the gadget weighs two kilograms, and its thickness is as much as four centimeters.
The ASUS Eee PC T101MT transformable tablet or laptop, unlike its eastern friend Fujitsu, does not have the ability to boast such a feature.
productive iron. Yes, it has everything you need, but you won’t find any frills: a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, a modest 320 GB hard drive and a small 10.1-inch screen.
Having analyzed the current state of things, we can safely say that a transformable tablet/netbook is a full-fledged device that has confidently entered the computer equipment market and managed to conquer its niche there. And more and more people give their preference to tablets that have an attached keyboard, because it is very convenient. Yes, now there are small shortcomings, but from year to year they are becoming less and less, and today you can buy a high-quality convertible laptop.
Looking for the best Windows tablet: selection criteria
Windows version
This material will focus exclusively on tablets running Windows 10, the OS version current at the beginning of 2020. Choose it when purchasing. Microsoft themselves are trying their best to forget about Windows RT and Windows Phone - and for good reason. Let us follow their example and no longer mention these cadavers.
CPU
Even the simplest Windows tablets under 10,000 rubles are equipped with at least four-core processors from the Intel Atom line. This is enough for work and undemanding games. More powerful models are already equipped with mobile versions of Intel Core - but this is already the next level of performance, and completely different money.
RAM capacity
Windows is a good system, but it is too power hungry. 1 GB of RAM is the minimum for at least some functionality, but at least twice as much is better.
Volume of permanent memory
Inexpensive Windows tablets usually have permanent flash memory that is also inexpensive, with a capacity of 32 GB or more. Most of them are consumed by the operating system itself; after all, it is designed for full-fledged PCs with dimensionless hard drives or at least SSDs. In any case, try to choose a device with at least 64 GB of memory (although this is also not the ultimate dream) and definitely with a slot for SD cards.
Screen size
The bigger it is, the better. At one time, 8-inch Windows tablets were popular due to their low cost, but the rationality of such a purchase is a big question. Choose a tablet with a screen diagonal of at least 10 inches, otherwise working with desktop applications will be completely unbearable.
External ports
Here again: the more, the better. To replace a laptop, a Windows tablet must be equipped with at least two USB ports for connecting peripherals. If there are more of them, just great. An SD card slot, as I said above, wouldn't hurt either. A combined 3.5 Jack for a microphone and headphones is, in principle, everywhere. It’s also nice if the tablet has a video output, for example micro HDMI, then you can connect a monitor to it and turn it into a full-fledged desktop PC with a large display.
Battery life
Intel Atom processors, which are most often found in Windows tablets, are distinguished by a certain gluttony, so there are no particularly long-lived devices among these devices. The battery capacity must be at least 5000 mAh, then the tablet will last about five hours when disconnected from the outlet. It is better, of course, to choose a larger battery. Still, Windows tablets cannot be called thin or light, so you don’t have to worry too much about a couple of extra millimeters of thickness.
Keyboard
For the tasks that most users buy Windows tablets for, a keyboard and mouse are almost essential. Many models of Windows tablets are equipped with a keyboard, which at the same time plays the role of a stand, a protective cover, an additional battery, a USB hub and generally a docking station. Typing large amounts of text on small keyboards with keys pressed closely together is, of course, not very convenient, but it is definitely more convenient than on a touch screen. In general, if you can attach a keyboard to the tablet, this is our choice.

Best 32GB Windows Tablet
Lenovo Miix 300 10.1″ 32Gb Wi-Fi Dock Black (80NR004KRK)
The capacious battery is enough for 9 hours of continuous operation. Stereo speakers. On the keyboard with docking station functions, there was room for two full-fledged USB ports at once. The tablet itself houses Micro USB, Micro HDMI, an SD card slot and a combined AUX 3.5 mm. Tolerant hardware configuration: 4-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of permanent memory. For 16,000 rubles, I would like to get at least 64 GB of internal storage, so it’s better to look for a modification with expanded permanent memory.

ASUS Transformer 3 T305CA 4Gb / 128Gb
- Chipset: 2-core Intel Core M3 7Y30, clock frequency 1000 MHz
- Operating system: Windows 10
- Memory (RAM / User): 4 GB / 128 GB
- Display: 6-inch diagonal, resolution 2880×1920
- Cameras (main / front): 13 MP / 5 MP

ASUS Transformer 3 T305CA is not just another gadget with flagship characteristics, “stuffed” with innovative technologies; the manufacturer calls this device revolutionary and is proud of it – and deservedly so!
The key advantages of Asus Transformer 3 are assembly and design. The tablet is the best confirmation that a metal product can be light and compact. Despite the fact that the gadget is actually an aluminum beam, its weight is only 695 grams and its thickness is 6.9 mm. When creating a case, more than 100 high-precision milling operations are performed - at the final stages, circular grinding is carried out, thanks to which the gadget receives a beautiful cut of the edges.
An entire article is not enough to describe all the outstanding technical characteristics of the Asus Transformer 3 - so we will focus on the main thing. The gadget boasts a phenomenal screen resolution (3K) and excellent pixel density, but what is more interesting is that the user is offered an increased color space coverage - 121% sRGB ! This means that the tablet conveys shades more accurately and richly than any other current gadget. The advantages of Transformer 3 also include a high-performance processor from Intel, surround stereo sound provided by 4 speakers, a fingerprint sensor and a proprietary Asus Sleeve Keyboard, which is included in the kit.
The tablet has only one drawback - the price is impressive ; Not everyone is able to allocate about 40 thousand rubles to purchase a “pill”.
Advantages
- Premium metal design.
- The presence of a digital pen that recognizes 1024 levels of pressure.
- A large number of various ports - from USB0 to VGA and HDMI.
- Supports SonicMaster Premium technology for premium sound.
- Large screen with outstanding resolution.
Flaws
- Impressive value.
Best 10-inch Windows tablet
Haier HV102L
Bright and clear 10-inch IPS display. The resolution is 1280x720 pixels, there will be graining, but only if you look at the screen almost point-blank. RAM 2 GB, permanent memory 32 GB - the minimum for comfortable work. Housing made of plastic and aluminum. The battery will last for 4-5 hours of watching high-definition videos. The manufacturer lets us down a bit with the number of external ports: there is a 3.5 mm audio jack, Micro HDMI and Micro USB, but full-size USB 2.0 is only available on the included keyboard with docking station functions. With a price of around 12,000 rubles, it’s an excellent choice.
