  • Intercepting downloads from the browser.
  • Selecting a storage location for files.

We continue our series of articles about torrent clients for Android devices.
Last time we looked at such popular solutions as µTorrent and its alternatives Flud and Vuze. Of the three, Flud performed best, distinguished itself by its stability, ability to work with magnetic links, low gluttony, as well as other advantages characteristic only of PC analogues. In this regard, we have an undisputed leader.

However, a holy place is never empty, which means it’s time to talk about other solutions that could not only bypass Flud, but also bring something new to mobile torrent clients.

Thus, aTorrent provides the ability to open a torrent directly from a file, which the programs described in the previous review could not do, and tTorrent Lite allows you not only to download, but also to create torrent files. As for Torrentex, we have a completely free program that is designed to prove to µTorrent that it is not necessary to charge money for features that can be free and without advertising. But we won’t praise our test subjects in advance, since only a test will show their feasibility on Android.

    The test equipment used was a DEXP Ursus 8EV2 3G tablet (Android 4.4.2, MT8382 processor, 4 x 1300 MHz, 1 GB RAM).

On Google Play, the developers wisely warn us to add the program to the RAM manager's exclusion list. Well, this is quite an adequate warning, since the same APUS Booster+ will definitely do this, which will lead to the interruption of the download.

Otherwise, there is complete care for the user. In particular, we can open torrents from a file, automatically pause the download if the charger is not connected to the tablet or smartphone, and also use all popular protocols. We were kindly shown three open ports for fast downloading, that is, TCP movies - 6881, UDP DHT - 43133, and for UDP trackers, port 43130. But is everything as good as we think it is?

    First impression

Minimalism of the interface for such a program is one of the main criteria, and in aTorrent this minimalism has been achieved. We are greeted by an easy, “light” interface with a small advertising banner at the very top.

This placement of advertising is successful, since the top sidebar contains the program control panel and settings, which means no, no, but your finger will fall on the “advantageous offer”.

The program engine itself is clearly borrowed, as is the Holo interface. Where have we seen it: in notepads, financial managers and even “reading books”. But the solution with a pop-up left sidebar is already familiar to everyone, so we won’t blame the developers for plagiarism.

After all, the most important thing is not overloaded with unnecessary duplicate buttons. It's simple - all torrents, downloads, uploads, completed, active and inactive torrents.

The upper right corner (in addition to the traditional search key, “start/stop downloading” and magnet links) is represented by the traditional “three dots”. Here you can find an offer to buy the Pro version for 153 rubles (which allows you to get rid of advertising and install the application on “ancient” Android), visit the developers’ Facebook page, write to them and configure the program.

By the way, here you can check the box next to “exit the program after all downloads are completed.” Nothing to say, it’s a convenient option, especially when working with torrents on mobile devices.

As for the settings, there is nothing superfluous here. Select a light Holo theme, language, autorun, and the default download folder. It is worth noting that if you check the box to autoload aTorrent, it will start as a system service, and not as a program.

This approach can guarantee the stability of the torrent client without failures, since autostart of the program sometimes does not happen for some reason (although it was planned, in the same 3C Toolbox IO scheduler).

Below we check the boxes if we want to download only via Wi-Fi, only when the charger or external battery is connected. At the same time, the developers were lying when they said that purchasing the Pro version only gets rid of advertising. Stopping downloading at a certain charge level is only available in the paid version.

Next, we set limits for uploading/downloading, the number of available connections, as well as the maximum number of downloaded torrents.

And below there are checkboxes opposite notifications about the end of the download. You can choose sound or vibration. By the way, do not ignore this option if you have a metered Internet connection. Tested by me from my own experience.

In addition, which is important, you can configure connections, in particular ports, however, this option is only available to those with an extra 150 rubles. It’s not a pity, but why then declare on Google Play only that advertising is disabled? But you can set up port listening for free, that is, check the boxes next to UPnP, NAT-PMP and (to detect peers on the local network) LSD service.

Below you can activate a proxy server for a fee (sometimes it’s necessary as air) and configure protocol encryption for incoming and outgoing connections. There are three types of encryption available, including RC4. This is, of course, for lovers of paranoia, but if you have a “business device” that is used for work, then who knows... In general, for a mobile torrent client that downloads a couple of files a week, this is not critical .

The first impression of aTorrent is more than good. Everything is provided, and the interface is pleasing to the eye. It’s a pity that the developers are luring you to the Pro version in a not entirely honest way, but this is marketing, and nothing, as they say, personal. Now let's see how this whole thing works.

    uTorrent

If you have already used Torrent technology on your PC, then you are most likely familiar with this name. Mobile uTorrent is very similar to its desktop relative and is almost as good in functionality. This is an ideal choice for those users who want to see the interface and familiar functions they are already familiar with.

    Main functions:

    • “Wi-Fi only” mode to save mobile traffic.
    • No restrictions on download speed and file size.
    • Selective download.
