Avast SecureLine VPN is Avast’s proprietary tool for manually setting up an Internet connection. Users often encounter blocking of certain sites, and all actions and traffic are recorded by the provider. Using this utility, you can avoid interception, bypass blocking, and maintain the confidentiality of personal data when working on the network. You can download the Avast SecureLine VPN tool along with the 2021 license file from the link at the end of our review. Also be sure to familiarize yourself with the capabilities, pros and cons of the utility.
Possibilities
It is worth noting that users of the main Avast antivirus do not need to install this tool to configure VPN - the module is already built into the main program. If you prefer another antivirus, install Avast SecureLine VPN as a separate application. With it you can do the following:
- manually select a server to connect to;
- enable or disable connection security;
- activate automatic selection of the most optimal server.
If you trust the application to select a server, the connection will be made to the most optimal point in terms of distance from the user, ping and Internet speed.

Avast SecureLine VPN leaves Russia
Avast announced to its users by means of a mailing campaign that it will stop operating the Avast SecureLine VPN service in Russia.
Avast VPN abandons Russia?. International company rejected @roscomnadzor censorship but will provide service till the end of current contracts (in my case little less than one year) pic.twitter.com/ou0c7rAPvg
— Andrey Davydov (@FarEasterner) June 13, 2019
Avast explained that the service will not be able to work in Russia due to the requirements of Roskomnadzor to block sites included in the register of prohibited sites. The company emphasized that this violates the right to freedom on the Internet and is contrary to its principles:
“Unfortunately, this means that you will not be able to renew your Avast SecureLine VPN subscription once it expires. But until then, you can use this program without complications. […] Please note: you will no longer be able to connect to servers located in Russia. We apologize for any inconvenience."
.
Avast's website says its VPN service is no longer available in Russia:
From November 1, 2020, VPN services and anonymizers must block access to sites from the Roskomnadzor register of prohibited information. In March, the department first required ten VPN services to do this. Relevant notifications were sent to NordVPN, Hide My Ass! Hola VPN, Openvpn, VyprVPN, ExpressVPN, TorGuard, IPVanish, VPN Unlimited and Kaspersky Secure Connection. Of those who received the request, only Kaspersky Lab agreed to cooperate. The head of Roskomnadzor A. Zharov said that within a month all “refuseniks” could be blocked.
UPD. RosKomSvoboda contacted Avast, and the company agreed to answer several of our questions regarding its refusal to cooperate with Roskomnadzor.
As it turned out, the Russian supervisory agency wrote an appeal to HMA!, which is also part of Avast.
“Avast believes that everyone has the right to freedom on the Internet and can use the Internet as they wish, so Avast will not comply with Roskomnadzor’s censorship requests for any of its VPN services,” the company noted.
When asked about their intention to take any measures to ensure that their services continue to be available to Russians, Avast replied:
“In addition to VPN services, Avast provides other services for the security and privacy of Russians, including anti-tracking solutions and free antivirus products. It is very important for us to provide these services to Russian users so that they remain protected. We did not want to create problems with FSIS Roskomnadzor due to VPN services, so we made the difficult decision to stop selling our VPN services in Russia. If the ban on blocking sites is lifted, we will return VPN services to Russia.”
.
Avast currently has no plans to challenge the possible blocking of the service in the Russian Federation in Russian or European courts.

How to use
The Avast SecureLine VPN application has a significant limitation - the functionality cannot be used in Russia. If you are in any other country, then install the utility and activate it using the license file that is attached to the installer on our portal.
The application has a settings section where you can select network settings, connections, automatic application operations, protection against leakage of personal information, and so on. After selecting the options you want, return to the main screen and activate the switch in the center of the window. The tool will then analyze suitable server options and connect to one of them. Also here you can see your current IP and VPN server address.
Avast SecureLine VPN also has a separate extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. With it, you can disable and enable a secure connection directly from the browser. The developers also have a proprietary browser, which already has the necessary plugins built into it.
In the settings you can activate the beta test participation feature. This way you can test the latest versions of the utility yourself.
Avast SecureLine speed
Many VPN services place too much priority on security while browsing . But what good is complete privacy if you can't surf in peace?
This VPN has excellent speed that will allow you to complete any online task. This is a great utility for all your user needs.
It's great for surfing the internet
when connecting to one of the servers.
You won't notice any slowdown
, no matter how far away the connection is.
For any of you who require high speed connections for streaming or downloading
, it offers a very stable P2P connection.
It also offers secure connections for those of you who want to download these Torrents files
.
All this quality in terms of speed is guaranteed thanks to its servers. Most of them are physically located in the country where the connection will be established.
The speed test for Avast SecureLine VPN was carried out as follows:
- Avast SecureLine VPN software was tested on a virtual machine
with Windows 7 Ultimate installed, 2 GB of RAM and 2 i3 cores. The machine was configured to connect directly to the local network. - With the exception of speed test
, all tests were carried out through realistic mediation to find out the real quality, approaching the maximum speed of 4 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload. - Speedtest was then used as a speed mediator
to gain better control over the server by running the same test with an optimal location, the result being under speed and a difference was seen with and without a VPN, especially when downloading. - It was then tested with a geographically closer server
and the ping was improved. It was decided to run a random test where Speedtest was able to find a suitable server to measure the speed of Avast VPN, and it was found that the load and ping measurements worked better over a greater distance.
It was concluded that Avast VPN speeds, when tested on three different servers, had lower performance at nearby locations, as opposed to remote measurements, which achieved higher speeds
.
The most surprising thing was the difference with Avast SecureLine VPN's native speeds, which, as expected, shouldn't have been that easy for the speed numbers.
In relation to resources, the application consumes little RAM
, perhaps due to lack of speed. In extreme cases, when running with Avast SecureLine VPN, the connection takes up between 80 and 100 MB of RAM and typically remains between 30 and 40 MB.
Avast SecureLine - what is it?
This software product, without going into technical aspects, is a simple and convenient VPN client that allows you to protect information transmitted by the user device to the Internet through multiple encryption.
There is another way to describe the Avast SecureLine application. What is this in terms of software? The most common tunnel adapter and client at the same time. To make it more clear, let's look at the mechanisms of the program.
Introduction
AVAST Software is best known for its antivirus products and especially the free version of Avast! Free Antivirus. However, in the modern world, when users increasingly use mobile devices and the boundaries between the use of mobile devices for personal and work needs are increasingly blurred, unsecured data transmission channels become the main problem, and one antivirus is no longer enough. In this review, we will look at one of the AVAST Software applications, which allows you to ensure data confidentiality when working on the Internet.
Avast! SecureLine VPN provides ordinary users with a fairly simple and convenient VPN client (Virtual Private Network). The essence of this technology is that when using it, the user accesses the Internet not directly, but through a special server, data exchange with which is encrypted. Encryption prevents attackers from intercepting user data when accessing the Internet through unprotected Wi-Fi points, and also provides protection against data leakage on the provider’s side. The presence of separate dedicated servers allows you to ensure anonymity of work on the network. In this case, visited sites will not be able to track the online activity and geographic location of users.
How does Avast SecureLine VPN work?
When connecting to any resource on the Internet, data from the user’s computer or mobile device is not transmitted directly to servers, but goes through many intermediate stages. In most cases, such intermediate devices are secure, but the VPN virtual private networks themselves, to which the connection is made via a Wi-Fi module, often do not have such protection. It is at this stage that attackers can take advantage of the gaps and hack the device or, even worse, steal personal data for accessing Internet resources, registration data for the same social networks, or even passwords and codes for accessing bank details or plastic cards.
Good protection is offered by a new security module called Avast SecureLine. What is it in terms of functioning? This is a software product that creates its own tunnel for any connection, through which data is transferred, and in encrypted form. This is the so-called tunneling technology. The essence of the ongoing processes is that when a connection is established to an unprotected network, user data first arrives at a special server, where it is encrypted. Decoding is performed directly on the VPN server. Thus, the risks associated with the loss or theft of confidential information are reduced many times over.
In addition, thanks to the use of the SSL cryptographic protocol based on the ADS encryption algorithm with a 256-bit key, the application can change the real IP address of the connected device and its subsequent processing by websites. The IP address received by the web resource is contained in a special directory of AVAST Software, which completely excludes outside access to the real user address. In this sense, Avast SecureLine is also an anonymizer, similar to how anonymous proxy servers work.
The program itself functions perfectly on all versions of Windows and Mac operating systems, and also has official versions for use on mobile devices with Android 4.0 and higher installed on them, as well as iOS 5 and higher.
