Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite - Lightweight in every sense

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite
– a tablet for users who are not ready to shell out a lot of money, but at the same time want to get a gadget with good parameters. This device will delight its owner with a thin body with a high-quality screen, good battery life and excellent multimedia sound from four stereo speakers.

Included with the tablet you will find the tablet itself, a Type-C charger and cable, a tray eject key and an M - Pen lite for the LTE version of the device.

| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD M5 LITE: DESIGN

A thin aluminum alloy plate covers the glass screen of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, making it look like an iPad. The main difference is the MediaPad's curved glass panel (which Huawei calls "2.5D"), which makes the screen look rather chunky.

Weighing 500 grams and measuring 243.8 x 16.25 x 7.6 mm, the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite is similar to the Apple iPad (0.5 kg, 238.7 x 167.6 x 7.6 mm). The Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus (0.5 kg, 246.4 x 172.7 x 7.6 mm) and Amazon Fire HD 10 (0.5 kg, 261.6 x 160 x 10 mm) are slightly larger.

The M5 Lite's headphone jack and USB Type-C port (which you'll use for charging) are located on the bottom left corner of the device. A microSD card reader, which offers 256GB of storage expansion, is also located on the left side of the tablet.

Advantages and disadvantages of the MediaPad M5 Lite 10 phone

The dimensions of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 are 243.4 mm wide, 162.2 mm long and 7.7 mm thick. Men with large hands can easily operate it with one hand, but women with small hands may feel that the device is too big for them. The weight of the device is about 475 grams, this weight is quite noticeable if you hold the phone in one hand; when working with the phone with one hand for a long time, the hand may well get tired.

When looking at the overall ease of use of the phone, there are some issues with it due to the weight or size of the device, but if the other features of the device make up for its shortcomings, then buying this phone is a good choice.

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-core Huawei HiSilicon KIRIN 659 processor, which is made on 16 nm. technical process.

The smartphone has 3 GB. RAM, which is quite enough. In very rare cases it will not be enough, but with this amount of RAM, you will rarely have problems.

The device's data storage capacity is 32 GB, and while this is enough for photos, it may not be enough for video shooting and a large number of games.

The phone is compatible with SD cards, so you can easily expand its memory. So you probably don't need to worry about storage capacity.

The MediaPad M5 Lite 10 has a display diagonal of 10.1 inches. It's quite big. Photos, videos and games will look great on this screen. It is also suitable for productive use, such as creating a business document.

In terms of quality, the screen may appear pixelated when displaying a picture or video. It should be sufficient for normal use.

The main camera of the phone has 7.99 megapixels, which should be enough in most cases. However, you may be slightly unsatisfied with the quality of the photos.

Also, the smartphone has a 7.99 megapixel front camera, which is average for smartphone cameras. This is good enough for taking selfies, but you may not be satisfied with group photos or their print quality.

The battery capacity of Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 is 7500 mAh, which is a very large indicator. Compared to other smartphones, the battery life of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 is very long. With such a capacity, you will be pleasantly surprised by the battery life. Even if you watch videos or play games for a long time, you will not have any problems with the battery.

| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD M5 LITE: DISPLAY

The 10.1-inch screen of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite offers vibrant colors, good detail and brightness. The 1920 x 1200 pixel panel will allow you to see small defects in the image, be it a speck of dirt on the fabric or other details.

The MediaPad M5 Lite's 114 percent sRGB coverage is only marginally better than the tablet average of 112 percent and the Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus' 109 percent coverage. The 2020 iPad (119%) scores slightly higher, while the Fire HD 10 (104%) scores slightly worse.

The MediaPad M5 Lite is capable of emitting up to 427 nits of brightness, making it brighter than the category average (398 nits), brighter than the Tab 4 10 Plus (400 nits) and Fire HD 10 (405 nits). The iPad glows at 489 nits, which is significantly brighter than the Huawei tablet. Colors remain vibrant even when moved 30 degrees to the left or right of the screen.

Appearance of the device

At first glance, it may seem that there is nothing unusual in the appearance of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet. Nevertheless, the device looks stylish and presentable. There are frames around the display on the tablet that are the same width. Also on the front side is the manufacturer’s logo, which has taken its place in the top left corner. Below the screen is a fingerprint scanner, which is hidden in a small recess. There is a front camera at the top center of the tablet.

The body of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite device itself is made of high-quality and durable aluminum, while the tablet has no sharp corners, they are rounded. There is a protective glass on the front side, which provides additional reliability when using the tablet. Stereo speakers are located on both the top and bottom edges of the device. On the right side of the tablet, users note the usual volume buttons, as well as the power key. On the left side of the device there is a connector for charging, as well as for connecting the device to a PC. There is also a standard headphone jack.

The tablet fits well and comfortably in the hands, especially in a horizontal position. In addition, the undoubted advantages of the appearance include the ability of the device to be resistant to scratches and hand marks.

| TOUCH SCREEN AND M-PEN LITE

The MediaPad M5 Lite's touchscreen provides precise touch experience. After testing the Android and Chrome interfaces, we found that the tablet responded well to all touches, although the response slowed down when the tablet was pushed to its limits.

The included M-Pen Lite stylus turned out to be quite good for an accessory included in the kit. It conveys a distinct feeling of painting on glass. We noticed smooth typing when drawing in Autodesk Sketchbook; However, at first there was a slight lag, quite acceptable, and as the width of the digital lines increased, the lag became more noticeable.

We only wish the stylus charged over USB Type-C, like the stylus Huawei includes with the M5 Pro, instead of requiring AAAA batteries, which you won't find in most brick-and-mortar stores. Can you imagine how great it is to explain to a child that the stylus will not work until the package arrives from Amazon?

↑ Screen MediaPad M5 Lite.

If you take into account the screen parameters, then nothing special, but on the other hand, it differs from other tablets for the better.
There is no air gap and this can be seen with the naked eye. Viewing angles are also very good; in the sun the picture does not fade or lose brightness. The tablet's screen resolution is FHD and is more than enough for watching videos or playing games. As for the brightness range, it is not small and the minimum brightness is enough for night reading, and the maximum level is useful for working on a tablet under the bright sun.

The screen supports work with the proprietary M-Pen lite stylus, which you will find included only in the LTE version of the tablet PC.

| KIDS CORNER (CHILDREN'S CORNER)

One of the main differences between the MediaPad M5 Lite and other tablets is the orientation of the Huawei device towards family members. For children, not only a limited interface, controlled by parents, called Kids Corner, has been created, but also an automatic transition to this interface has been implemented when the child’s fingerprint is recognized. A four-digit PIN prevents a child from upgrading to the full version of the M5 Lite.

Additionally, M5 Lite supports parental settings and tech tips to help parents limit the impact of big, bright screens on their developing baby. For example, a tablet will encourage children to keep their face away from the screen and watch their posture. His cameras even revealed our bad habits during the review.

The Kids Corner also has a special blue light filtering feature, which some claim will help kids sleep, a common concern for parents. If this feature is enabled, it runs all the time, which can be useful, however, we would like to be able to adjust the time.

Unfortunately, this whole children's system is a bit limited. You start with four apps in Kids' Corner: an audio recorder, a camera, a kids' drawing app, and a gallery app called Multimedia. You can add as many apps from the Google Play Store as you wish. In addition, only one child profile is available for each device. Kindle HD 10 offers up to 6 profiles: two for adults, four for children.

Huawei doesn't offer a kid-friendly web browser, so you can offer your child only Chrome with unlimited internet access, or not provide them with a web browser at all (the best solution in our opinion). Compare this to the full parental controls on the iPad and the Fire tablet platform, and you'll see that the MediaPad M5 Lite is lacking in features.

Stylus Huawei M-Pen Lite

The Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 tablet comes with a stylus that closely resembles a stylish pen. The color of the metal case matches the color of the tablet itself. The stylus is relatively heavy, but despite this, the hand does not get tired. There is no rubberized area, but it still feels comfortable in the hands.

The stylus can recognize up to 2048 levels of pressure on the screen, but it does not recognize the angle. In addition, this device is easy and pleasant to draw, as well as quickly create notes. You just need to pick up a pen and start creating. You can also write text using the stylus by selecting “handwriting input” from the menu. The stylus requires one AAAA battery to operate.

| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD M5 LITE: SOUND

Be prepared for tons of sound. We accidentally discovered that the 4-way speaker array of the Huawei MediaPad M5 has excellent volume, enough to fill a large bedroom or disturb the quiet work of people in the office.

We tested the sound using music tracks and noticed that the speakers lacked bass. The tablet's soundstage offers loud vocals or synths, while the drums become a collection of cymbals.

Autonomy

The developers have integrated a 7500 mAh battery into the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 tablet. This capacity is enough for several days of quiet use of the tablet! If you use the device actively and often, the charge will last approximately 36 hours. It is also worth noting that the tablet will last about 8-9 hours without recharging, playing games, listening to music or watching videos.

In principle, autonomy is no different from other similar devices. The developers claim that the tablet can be fully charged in about 3 hours if you use the charger included in the package.

| FEATURES AND PERFORMANCE

We found the reason for the "Lite" designation in the name of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite when we tested the Kirin 659 processor with 3GB of RAM. And while the tablet is aimed at children who may have low processing power requirements, we found it difficult to see slowdown more often than not. When we split the screen between 1080p YouTube videos and Chrome with about ten tabs open, we noticed that the tablet took a moment to refresh a tab, with the slowdown getting worse when we dragged the screen divider to resize a video.

In the eekbench 4 overall performance test, the MediaPad M5 Lite scored a mediocre 3,845, below the category average of 4,290. The iPad (5,938 / Apple A10 Fusion) and Tab 4 10 Plus (4,097 / Snapdragon 625 with 2GB RAM) scored much higher ).

In the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited graphics test, the M5 Lite scored 11,746 points, which is below the category average of 20,537 points. The Tab 4 10 Plus (13,801) and Fire HD 10 (13,435) scored slightly better, while the iPad boasted a whopping 37,117 points.

The sad story unfolded when we tried to run PUBG Mobile on the MediaPad M5 Lite. Not only did the game automatically set its settings to Low based on the tablet's specs, but it also looked terrible. Productivity dropped even before leaving the gate, when nothing was happening. As Tom's Guide editor Adam Ismail said, "It feels like a PS2 game."

Screen

The Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet has a large 10.8-inch display with an IPS matrix, FHD resolution 1920x1200 ppi. This ratio of resolution and screen size is enough for comfortable viewing of the tablet, since you get a clear and high-quality picture. Thanks to the excellent contrast ratio (1000:1), colors look rich and vibrant. Aspect ratio 16:10. Viewing angles are maximum.

The screen of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet supports the M-Pen stylus, which is included in the package. Using the stylus, you can easily create a note, work with drawings, and quickly edit text. There is also a reading mode, which will definitely be appreciated by those who like to read e-books. This mode will protect your eyesight as much as possible, since this function will trigger a notification that the tablet is located too close to your eyes. In addition, the amount of blue light, which is harmful to the eyes, will also decrease.

It is also worth noting that on a sunny day you can still easily use the tablet. All information on the tablet is clearly visible, both under the rays of the sun and in pitch darkness at minimum brightness. There is also automatic brightness adjustment, which simplifies the use of the device.

| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD M5 LITE: WEB CAMERA

Taking the MediaPad M5 Lite outside during our lunch break, we discovered that its cameras have the same problem as most tablet cameras: extreme sensitivity to light, which leads to discolored photos.

Taking selfies with the 8-megapixel front camera of the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, we received an acceptable level of facial detail. However, everything in the background looked blurry.

You can get decent pictures from a tablet if you're in exceptionally good light. So while we may have captured amazing looking photos in perfect lighting conditions, not all of life is spent in perfect light.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite - Hardware and software

Inside the MediaPad M5 Lite is a proprietary Huawei Kirin 659 processor. This is an 8-core processor (4 cores with a clock frequency of 1.84 GHz, 4 with a frequency of 2.36 GHz).

In Ukraine, only version 3/32 (3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory) is currently sold, although version 4/64 also exists in the world.

I have no complaints about performance. Even if you use the tablet as a work tool (a dozen tabs in Chrome, parallel work in a text editor, watching videos on YouTube, mail, instant messengers, etc.), it does not slow down and does not cause any trouble.

You can play games, although I am not a gamer and will not speak authoritatively on this matter. I played Dead Trigger 2 for half an hour and didn’t notice any performance issues. And other “heavy” toys run quite tolerably at medium settings. The low screen resolution, which I mentioned above, is probably to blame for this.

In general, this is not a gaming device, but if you want, you can play almost any game from the Play Store.

Below the screen (when viewed in landscape orientation) is a fingerprint scanner. This is a nice feature, since many tablet manufacturers are refusing to use a scanner.

It works quickly and accurately, plus it allows you to use gestures to control the system. They allow you to partially (or even completely) refuse to use on-screen system buttons (“home”, “back”).

A USB Type-C connector is used for charging and connecting to a PC.

By the way, you can buy an M Pen for the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite - this is a stylus (pen) similar to the S Pen in Samsung. I didn't get to try it, so that being said, I won't lie.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite runs Android 8.0 with the proprietary EMUI shell. The shell is beautiful, has many settings. I like it, which I write about without hesitation in all my reviews of Huawei gadgets.

It's difficult to say whether the MediaPad M5 Lite will receive an update to Android 9. Like Samsung and a number of other manufacturers, Huawei believes that the user experience is more related to the shell than to the versions of Android that are “below”.

And for most users this statement is true. Moreover, the times when the version of Android really meant something are long gone. The main changes occur “under the hood”, and the user really judges the operation of the gadget by the shell with which it communicates, and not by the version of Android itself.

| SOFTWARE

Like many Android tablets, the MediaPad M5 Lite often doesn't work quite right. For example, Huawei's Nebo notes app isn't designed for this screen size, and you often have to rotate the screen in a certain direction, but the tablet doesn't realize that's a problem.

In addition, the message “Your phone is optimized” appears after clicking on the trash icon to clear the used memory. Huawei knows this device isn't a phone, but the company has clearly just copied the phones' software without modification.

While the MediaPad M5 Lite thankfully runs Android Oreo, Huawei and the EMUI user interface make a few strange tweaks that we're at a loss to explain. For example, the Google Play Games app that we used to log into PUBG Mobile is not installed by default.

Additionally, we had to scratch our heads over some of the included Huawei apps. These include Game Suite, an app that promises performance improvements that we didn't notice in PUBG Mobile, and then there's the Themes app, which requires permissions to access your phone, internet, and storage data.

If this is your first Huawei device, you will also see several system management options that can be easy to get confused about. If your M5 Lite is feeling particularly slow, try using the trash can icon on the app switching screen. The M5 Lite scored a GeekBench 4 score of 2,831 before we used the wipe, and then 3,845 after. This performance boost was temporary, and after a while the score dropped to 3400. Trying to use the system maintenance tool from the Tablet Manager app called Cleanup did not help improve performance to the highest level.

Cameras

The Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 tablet has an 8 MP main camera, autofocus and f/2.0. Since tablets, as a rule, do not have high-quality and modern cameras, you have to be content with what you have. The main camera works averagely. During daylight hours and in good lighting, the photographs will delight you with clear and rich images. In low light, for example in the evening, noise appears in the photo. But overall the camera is acceptable for a tablet.

The front camera resembles the characteristics of the main camera: 8 MP, f/2.0, but there is no autofocus. Suitable for video calling, but photos are of average quality. There are no special features in the front camera.

⇡#Hardware and performance

Top Android tablets have an interesting fate. There are no queues in stores immediately after release for these devices, they are not waited for a whole year, scrupulously following news and rumors, but are updated every few years as needed. Accordingly, they don’t get the “top” hardware very often – they usually “upgrade” the chipsets of outdated flagships. This is exactly the story of Samsung with its Galaxy Tab S4 - it has Snapdragon 835, while the best smartphones now have Snapdragon 845. The situation is similar with the MediaPad M5 10 - the gadget runs on the Kirin 960 chipset, familiar to many from smartphones such as Huawei P10 and Mate 9. At the same time, the P20 Pro now has Kirin 970, and the Mate 20 Pro with Kirin 980 is on the way.

Let us remind you that HiSilicon Kirin 960 is a chipset of Huawei’s own design, made using a 16-nm process technology and including four energy-efficient Cortex A53 cores (1.8 GHz), four productive Cortex A73 cores (2.4 GHz), as well as Mali G71 MP8 graphics accelerator with a frequency of 900 MHz. A general head-to-head performance comparison with the Snapdragon 835 gives fairly close results, with a slight advantage for the Qualcomm chipset. But tests in GPU benchmarks clearly show that the superiority of the American solution over the Chinese one is already noticeably (sometimes 1.5-1.8 times) higher.

All this makes the Huawei MediaPad M5 10 absolutely suitable for any household tasks, except games. Demanding games like WoT Blitz and especially PUBG Mobile can be played comfortably only on medium settings. And if you take into account the serious resolution, it’s better to even lower them, especially in PUBG: there the frame rate will definitely not be superfluous.

4 GB of RAM, combined with a well-optimized proprietary Huawei EMUI shell, is enough for normal multitasking. There are no problems with a moderate number of simultaneously open programs or a bunch of tabs in the browser.

With built-in memory everything is more complicated. The basic version of the tablet (note that it does not have a nanoSIM slot) has only 32 GB, which is extremely small for a device focused solely on content consumption. In general, it is logical to look at the older modification with 64 GB (here you can already use nanoSIM) on the built-in storage, but it is 4,000 rubles more expensive. If you don’t need LTE in your tablet, then it’s easier to buy a 128 GB microSD card for half this amount and close the issue of storage space for files.

There are no problems with heating. Of course, the back of the MediaPad M5 10 gets warmer under prolonged loads, but not so much that you even have to think about it. There is virtually no throttling: the CPU performance level did not fall below 89% of the maximum during the 15-minute test.

If you install a SIM card in the tablet, it will not only be constantly online thanks to 4G support, but will also be able to make calls. This entertainment, of course, is not for everyone. Very big. But everything works as it should, signal reception is fine.

As for wireless modules, everything is sparse. Bluetooth is not the newest - only version 4.2, there is no NFC, however, it is not necessary for a tablet. There is also no support for high-quality wireless audio transmission standards, but there is a built-in audio chip, thanks to which headphones connected to Type-C through that same ridiculous adapter begin to sound much more pleasant.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet officially presented

Reward accrued

This news was written by a site visitor and a reward was awarded for it.

The Chinese company Huawei today pleased fans with not only two smartphones (Enjoy 9s and Enjoy 9e). The manufacturer also decided to expand its range of tablet computers by introducing the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, also known as the MediaPad M5 Youth Edition. Compared to its predecessor, less than six months have passed since its premiere, the new product features an updated design and the presence of a modification with support for fourth-generation mobile networks.

It has long been no secret to anyone that Android tablets costing up to 500-600 dollars are absolutely identical devices that do not stand out in anything unusual and, in fact, are enlarged copies of smartphones. They are one by one inferior to any iPad from Apple, both in terms of design and technical terms. The software component also leaves much to be desired. The second category of modern tablets based on the Android operating system includes solutions from A-brands that cost under $1,000 in the basic modification and have a lot of accessories that double the price of the device.

Alas, Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite belongs to the first category of tablets. It received an 8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The display is surrounded by thick bezels on all sides. At the bottom of the front side there is the inscription “Huawei”, and at the top the company’s engineers from China installed a front camera. Its resolution is 8 megapixels. Optical aperture – f/2.0. First of all, the front camera in the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite is designed for video calls.

The tablet body is made of metal, but there are plastic inserts on the back panel at the top and bottom. Stereo speakers are also located there. In addition, the main camera is installed at the top of the back of the tablet. The gadget weighs approximately 180 g. The camera is built on the basis of a 13-megapixel matrix and a lens with an f/2.2 aperture.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite has a jack for connecting a wired headset. It is installed on the top end next to one of the speakers. Harman/Kardon is responsible for the sound in the tablet. The corresponding inscription appears at the bottom of the back side. Declared support for Histen 5.0 technology, which provides surround sound.

The hardware platform can be built on the basis of one of two processors, depending on the configuration. So, Kirin 710 or Kirin 710F can be used. The manufacturer decided not to specify the characteristics of the second, but it was said that these are two identical single-chip systems, the difference between which lies solely in the technological process. As you know, the Kirin 710 CPU is represented by two clusters of four cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz and 1.7 GHz. GPU – Mali-G51 MP4.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite tablet can carry on board 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot with a maximum capacity of 512 GB. The capacity of the complete battery was 5100 mAh. The manufacturer from China promises that one full battery charge will be enough for 10 hours of video viewing. It is also worth noting the presence of a micro-USB port and a Bluetooth 4.2 module. The new product does not have an NFC chip. Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite runs the Android operating system with the EMUI shell (versions not specified). Declared support for overclocking technology for the second generation graphics processor - GPU Turbo 2.0.

The tablet computer is available in a choice of Champagne Gold and Deep Gray color options. The cost situation is as follows:

  • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM – 1199 yuan (~180 dollars / ~11,500 rubles);
  • 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM – 1399 yuan (~210 dollars / ~13,400 rubles);
  • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM + LTE modem – 1499 yuan (~225 dollars / ~14,300 rubles);
  • 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM + LTE modem – 1599 yuan (~240 dollars / ~15,300 rubles).

We should also highlight the special edition of Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite. It received a 10-inch display, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of user memory. The price of a tablet with an LTE modem was 2399 yuan (~$355 / ~23,000 rubles). The version, limited only to the Wi-Fi module, was priced by the Chinese company at 2199 yuan (~$325 / ~21,000 rubles).

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite is already available for pre-order in China. The start of sales of the new product is scheduled for April 10 this year.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite - Lightweight in every sense

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite is a simplified and cheaper version of the MediaPad M5 tablet, but no less remarkable. The price between models varies by approximately two times. At the same time, the younger version also has stylus support and is equipped with four speakers. Does it make sense not to overpay in order to get the same thing, but only at a better price?

The tablet body is made of metal. The front panel is covered with protective glass, which has an excellent oleophobic coating and is quite resistant to scratches. At least, there are simply none on my device. The glass has a slight 2.5D effect, although the rounding is almost invisible. The tablet is much lighter than the older model, and a little more compact. The device weighs less than 0.5 kg.

The tablet is built well, but the body does not give the impression of reliability. If you take the device diagonally and slightly twist the edges in different directions, you immediately feel that the battery inside is in a state of certain shock absorption, and if you pull harder, it seems that something not very pleasant might happen. In any case, if you don’t break it on purpose, the case will not break. But in terms of reliability, it is significantly inferior to its older brother in the line. The manufacturer uses metal that is too soft and thin, similar in weight to plastic, so the case seems flimsy.

The camera lens protrudes slightly. Both cameras are 8 megapixels, and their quality is completely mediocre. I won't even include sample pictures because that doesn't make much sense. Maximum video resolution FullHD. I can’t even say anything remarkable about the speed of their work. Satisfactorily.

The tablet works great on 4G networks. The quality of the modem does not raise any questions. The device maintains a stable signal even on the go. The maximum data download speed is 300 Mbit/s.

The version with LTE support comes with a stylus. It was this version that I tested, but, as is tradition, I couldn’t find the treasured “handle” in the kit. Enterprising kleptomaniac testers regularly pull styluses and other accessories out of test boxes. Therefore, we will not be able to test the operation of the stylus. Let me just draw your attention to the fact that the version without cellular support will not work with the proprietary stylus, because there is no special coating on the screen.

The tablet comes with Android 8, which is covered by the proprietary EMUI shell (also version 8). The company's tablets have not yet received the long-awaited update to 9. We'll watch. It's difficult to make predictions about what the new update will be like. No leaks. No information. No comments. But I’m glad that already in the M5 Lite model there is no typo anywhere in the interface, because it is not a phone or a smartphone that is being used. The tablet “calls” itself a tablet in the menu. Progress.

Tablet manager. Not a phone. Fine. Finally.

The proprietary shell is leisurely, but there are no brakes in the scrolling animation. If it flies, then the Lite version is very thoughtful. There is only one reason for this.

The device is powered by a KIRIN 659 processor. The processor is made using 16 nm technology, has 8 cores and a 2-core Mali-T830 MP2 graphics processor. In summary, the solution is clearly and unequivocally not a game one. But for standard tasks this power is sufficient. Applications will have to be minimized periodically to ensure more or less efficient operation of the device. At the same time, one should not expect that this solution will not cope with the Internet and watching movies in FullHD. Can handle it.

RAM 3 GB. The memory operates in dual-channel mode at a frequency of 933 MHz. Modestly. The built-in storage is 32 GB, of which just under 24 GB is available to you. The built-in storage is eMMC type. Support for high-capacity memory cards more than solves the problem of lack of memory. In general, it is far from the most advanced hardware. However, you need to understand that for less than 20 thousand rubles it is difficult to get something better. Samsung rivets even less advanced devices for this money. More or less adequate competition for Huawei devices in this segment comes from models from Lenovo, but they are famous for a large number of problems.

What can't be removed

What to take? If you don’t care about a SIM card in your tablet, then spend a couple thousand rubles and get the regular M5 version. It's bigger and heavier, but faster. More accessories have been developed for it. If you want a tablet with SIM card support, then there is no point in looking here, because the version with a SIM card is almost ten thousand rubles more expensive than the Lite model. Here you will have to choose a device with similar hardware, which in any case cannot boast of high performance.

Among the competitors there is also the iPad. The new iPads are good. And all without exception. We're about to see something new. If you don't care about Android and are willing to put up with a certain amount of memory, then the iPad is ready to be a good buy.

The M5 Lite has one more trump card on its side. You won't believe it, but I'm writing about the screen. A high-quality IPS matrix has excellent viewing angles. FullHD resolution and 16:10 widescreen screen are specially designed for watching movies. The brightness is enough to watch videos even in a well-lit room. Some interface icons look loose, but this is a problem with an adapted interface. For this amount you get an excellent tablet screen that does not suffer from childhood diseases of budget devices.

What else? There are 4 speakers on the body. Harman|kardon took part in the setup (not manufacturing). They sound good, but are an order of magnitude inferior to the older model. The sound is of pleasant quality and even spacious, since all the speakers are located exactly at the ends of the device. However, the volume of the device surprised me, because I often turned it up to maximum. The volume of the tablet's speakers is comparable to the sound of music smartphones, but not tablets. Of course, these four speakers, even with the highest quality audio file, will not replace or outshout a weak speaker. Smart PA effects are available for listening to music through headphones.

The device has all the basic sensors and literally any wireless connection. As always, everything works perfectly and flawlessly. The device is connected to the computer using a Type C 2.0 connector. The 3.5 mm jack has not disappeared anywhere.

Gestures, of course, are not enough.

If only there was support for gestures for control. It is simply impossible to hit the button without looking and feel it in the dark.

Fast charging supported. However, fast charging technology is no longer relevant, because charging a tablet in 3 hours is completely unimpressive. The charging unit is designed for 2 A. Battery capacity is 7500 mAh. Few? Enough. However, the device cannot boast of high autonomy. According to my calculations, the gadget after a full charge cycle is capable of playing a video for about 7 hours. Weak. I have to charge the tablet about twice a week, although I use it about 1.5 hours a day to play a TV series in the background or watch the news. We'll be looking forward to working on optimizations in the next major update.

What's the result? A good tablet at a very attractive price. All potential nuances very successfully appeal to its price, so I simply do not have any questions as such about the quality of work. In its price group, the solution remains quite optimal. You need to weigh it well and, perhaps, look more closely at your competitors. The LTE version for 22 thousand rubles with the included stylus (recognizing 2048 degrees of pressure) is beyond competition. A universal solution for any unambitious tasks at the best price.
