Appearance

What we have in front of us is high-quality packaging, all elements of the construction and design of which have been carefully verified. There are no complaints about the quality of production. The color scheme of the box is black and red. The design cannot be called minimalistic; it is not deprived of various elements.

Structurally, the main box is made without any design and is inserted into the cover. The manufacturer's logo is printed on the front side, and a company seal is provided to protect against unauthorized opening of the package.

On the front side there is an image of the mouse itself. Looking ahead, I will say that the backlight is not as intense as indicated. Here you can find the exact model of the device, as well as minimal information about it.

On the reverse side are technical specifications and some service information. It also talks about the manufacturer's two-year warranty.

The box itself is designed to open upward. Moreover, the lid and the main compartment are not equal in size; the gap between them is painted red - it looks interesting.

We find a mouse inside. It is rigidly fixed in a special plastic stand, the cable is hidden at the bottom. By the way, apart from it, no complete accessories are provided - only instructions and a certain congratulatory leaflet.

Note that the inside of the lid is lined with soft foam rubber, which additionally protects the mouse from contact with the lid and friction against it.

The packaging of the main culprit of the review does an excellent job of its intended purpose. The manufacturer paid a lot of attention to the box, thinking through a way to secure the mouse in the package and providing a foam pad inside the lid. All this deserves praise and creates the image of an expensive and high-quality item for the new product.

Appearance and ergonomics

The design of the mouse can be called simple and at the same time nice; the material for it was black plastic of good quality. The buttons are made integral with the device body itself. There are no complaints about the build quality; the body is made well.

In the recess behind the wheel there is a button for changing the resolution of the optical scanner. Only work in predefined four modes is available, but there is no support for manual settings. However, this cannot be called a serious problem.

The keys themselves operate clearly and with a quiet but clear click. It uses an Omron mechanism with a claimed lifespan of 20 million clicks. There are no accidental clicks, but there is no need to apply excessive force. The wheel is rubberized and rotates easily, its pressing is as clear and precise as possible.

The cable connects to the mouse at the front and center. It is protected by a fabric braid and decorated with red dots to match the color of the HyperX Pulsefire FPS backlight. Despite its good flexibility, the wire easily takes the desired shape. At the connection points it is equipped with rubber elements that protect against creases.

The upper part of the case is smooth, but the sides are made of rubber, allowing you to hold the mouse securely and comfortably. The rubber itself is soft and has a fine textured pattern. Two side keys control the “Forward” and “Back” transitions, made of glossy plastic. It is worth noting the complete absence of play and clear pressing. There are no elements on the right side.

At the back of the case there is an illuminated manufacturer's logo. The center is slightly shifted for the sake of ergonomics, with the expectation of use in the right hand.

Two wide Teflon pads are used as legs, allowing the HyperX Pulsefire FPS to glide easily on any surface. The pads themselves take up about two-thirds of the bottom panel of the mouse and are most likely resistant to wear. But there are no spare parts included in the kit.

In the center is the Pixart PWM3310 optical scanner - not a new product, but a well-proven module.

During operation, the corporate logo, the wheel and the key for changing the sensor resolution are highlighted. The backlight is moderately bright, but does not blind even in the dark. Interestingly, the main backlight is red, and the key for changing the sensor operating modes changes color depending on the mode.

So, the manufacturer offered players a high-quality, durable and beautiful item without conceptual design solutions, designed for connoisseurs of discreet design. There are no questions about the appearance and build quality of the mouse; this model will find its buyer.

Software

There is no proprietary software; the mouse is installed and detected automatically. Additional keys perform only the functions assigned to them; they cannot be reassigned.

Ease of use

As mentioned above, the mouse fits very comfortably in the hand - but only in the right hand: its shape is not suitable for left-handers.

The top-end Pixart PMW3389 sensor ensures precise positioning of the device, prevents interruptions and loss of signal, and during online matches I never had any problems with the behavior of the mouse. The keys have a satisfying, satisfying click, and the Omron switches are designed to last 20 million keystrokes, which should last for years. The scroll wheel is quiet and has a distinct pitch.

A separate key under the scroll allows you to switch the sensor resolution on the fly - by default there are three presets, 800, 1600 and 3200 DPI, you can set other values ​​in the application.

Evil stuffing

You can't help but take a look inside Pulsefire FPS Pro. For those who want to do this themselves, both huge legs will suffer as a result of disassembly, since they completely cover all four screws. Therefore, you shouldn’t risk your rodent, and we will show all the “insides” from different sides. Dismantling the case, although it requires damaging the base, is quite simple - four screws and the top panel is completely removed.

The internal structure of the case is cast at the factory with high precision. This allows for the least wear on the stops that press the switch, as a result of which not a single key will stick during the entire life of the mouse in your hand.

Both main switches are made by Omron and have a lifespan of 20 million clicks. Model – D2FC-F-7N(20M). It is the 20M modification that is optimal in terms of reliability and price.

The side buttons are based on Kailh switches, a well-known brand whose products are even used by some paddle manufacturers as core components.

Another switch that is used to switch DPI is also made by Kailh.

The mouse is powered by a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 processor, which has 32 KB of built-in memory for storing settings.

Everyone everywhere writes about the top sensor PMW3389. But why is it considered cool and how is it different from its brother in the previous mouse model? At a minimum, it’s worth starting with the fact that at the moment it has the best technical characteristics. It’s a little strange to compare it with the PMW3310, but it’s still necessary, because Pulsefire FPS was built on it.

It’s still impossible to completely write off the PMW3310, but now its presence in the mouse is for the simplest solutions that are more suitable for offline shootings. But the PMW3389 has an obvious advantage not only in numbers on paper, but also has excellent positioning and pixel-by-pixel refinement, is characterized by minimal input lag (one might say its absence), it has no parasitic cursor jitter, regardless of the readable surface, there are no disruptions and it withstands any overload perfectly - there is no hand so fast that can fully unleash the potential of the flagship. And it also completely lacks acceleration and angular binding. There is nothing more to add - a fairy tale, not a sensor.

In reality everything is as good as in theory. The cursor behaves only the way your hand wants it to - no unnecessary movements, regardless of the settings used and the activity of moving the mouse across the surface. Measurements of all five profiles showed excellent results. Of course, a lot also depends on the person’s “skill” itself, but still.

Software

Now we have reached the most slippery moment in the review of HyperX Pulsefire Raid - the HyperX NGENUITY application. It is downloaded from the Microsoft Store and does not work very stable: it is a beta version, and it periodically crashes, conflicts with other applications (for example, RGB Fusion), and does not minimize to tray, remaining on the Windows taskbar. The latter is not such a serious problem: in fact, NGENUITY can be used only once, by writing the necessary settings into the mouse memory; It is not necessary to run it every time you turn on the PC.

As for the functionality of the application, there are no questions here: everything is customizable.

• On the Lights tab, you can set backlight modes, select glow areas, brightness, colors, and flicker speed.

• The Buttons tab allows you to reconfigure each of the 11 keys: set the functions of the keyboard or mouse buttons, select multimedia commands and Windows commands, record macros, or even disable the button altogether.

• The Sensor tab controls the capabilities of the sensor: here you can add new DPI switching levels and change existing ones - from 200 to 16000 DPI.

In addition, separate menu items in the NGENUITY application allow you to select the backlight brightness, sensor polling frequency (125, 250, 500 and 1000 Hz), and save settings presets.

Impressions of use

The mouse is designed for a large palm, the weight is light - 95 g. On the one hand, this is a plus, since the device is easier to move, on the other hand, the topic is not for everybody; some people like heavier options.

I was pleased with the OMRON switches - the clicks really feel very cool. False positives – zero. These switches are very good for shooters. One can only find fault with the noticeable movement of the keys.

Experience with the game has shown that the creators clearly got the ergonomics right; the mouse fits perfectly in the hand, the materials are pleasant to the touch, and the dimensions are correct. But, of course, what is missing is the ability to program the keys and the ability to completely turn off the backlight.

Are there too many buttons?

Additional mouse buttons may be useless for gamers - for example, if they are located in places that are inconvenient to reach with your fingers. Speaking of the HyperX Pulsefire Raid, these include the “6” and “7” keys on the side panel, which are placed too high. However, these are subjective feelings. However, I became interested in how the mouse would show its features in games - whether it was possible to “unload” the keyboard as much as possible by assigning different commands to the mouse buttons, and how comfortable it would be to play at the same time.

In some projects, you can freely bind additional gadget keys to any commands. In others, we had to resort to tricks: set the mouse button to the keyboard key in the application and assign this key to an action in the game settings.

Thus, I managed to attach the walk command in CS:GO to the button that lies under the thumb, as a result of which there was no need to use the “Shift” key on the keyboard. In Desperados III, skill activation commands were added to the side buttons - there are five of them, just like the keys. Fortnite managed to use them for the tasks of constructing shelter elements - walls, ceilings, floors. And so on.

There are practical benefits from the side keys, and you quickly get used to their presence. Often using the buttons under your thumb is more convenient than reaching for the corresponding keys on the keyboard - and not only in games: you can, for example, assign commands to them for office applications. But it is worth noting that third-party software may be needed to fine-tune mouse functions in different games - the NGENUITY utility from HyperX is still very unstable and does not provide the desired freedom.

Review of the HyperX Pulsefire FPS gaming mouse for first-person shooters

The gaming brand HyperX continues to grow in momentum and once again expands its range of gaming peripherals. If there are no questions with the Cloud line of headsets: the company consistently produces excellent models in different price ranges, then the first mechanical keyboard HyperX Alloy FPS caused me wild delight due to its practicality, compactness, excellent assembly, materials and the absence of anything superfluous (to By the way, at the beginning of the year HyperX Alloy RGB with the corresponding backlight was presented, and the other day at Computex 2020 a “tournament” version without a digital block was noticed). Now in the arsenal there is also a gaming mouse HyperX Pulsefire FPS. As with the keyboard, the name contains the prefix FPS, which indicates that it is primarily focused on first-person shooters.

What is this?

HyperX Pulsefire FPS is a wired gaming mouse for right-handers with additional buttons, an optical sensor, resolution switching and single-color backlighting.

Why is HyperX Pulsefire FPS interesting?

HyperX continues to focus on convenience and ease of use: plug and play. Pulsefire FPS is devoid of any additional software for all kinds of profiles, highlights, and so on. There is only a button for adjusting the sensor resolution on the body. This approach has both pros and cons: yes, the software allows you to more flexibly configure devices to suit your needs, on the other hand, at various cyber competitions it is not always possible to install this software on someone else’s computer, and not all gamers need a large amount settings and whistles such as multi-colored flashing lights. The mouse uses the time-tested optical PixArt 3310 with a maximum resolution of 3200 DPI. It may seem that this is not enough by today’s standards, but we will draw conclusions after field testing of the rodent.

What is in the box?

The HyperX Pulsefire FPS mouse comes in a small box with a soft cardboard outer cover. It is stylized in HyperX's signature colors: black and red, and has an image of a mouse and brief information about the characteristics. Inside is a hard black cardboard box with a hinged lid. Below it, on a plastic stand, is the mouse itself. In addition to this, the kit only contains all sorts of printed materials.

What does HyperX Pulsefire FPS look like?

HyperX traditionally decided not to focus on some kind of eye-catching appearance or multi-colored lighting of everything possible. Like the rest of the company's peripherals, Pulsefire FPS looks strict and stylish. The engineers approached it from a practical point of view, because first of all, a gaming mouse should be comfortable. HyperX Pulsefire FPS is a large gaming mouse with an asymmetrical shape for right-handed use. It is made mainly of practical matte black plastic, the main buttons are not separated from the surface:

On the sides of the mouse there are large and comfortable rubberized pads with a textured surface. Only two additional buttons on the left side of the mouse are made of glossy plastic. There are no more easily soiled elements, everything is practical, black and matte:

The mouse is designed for right-handed use and there are no additional buttons on the right side. The profile photo below clearly shows how the cable is protected from bending and, most importantly, the angle at which it is placed relative to the surface. It is slightly raised so that it will not cling to the surface:

In addition, the scroll wheel on the sides is highlighted in the same color. It has a rubberized surface with a serpentine texture. Above is a DPI switch button slightly recessed into the body with an LED built into it to display the current operating mode. The main buttons are made of very high quality: they do not rattle or play:

There is a 3310 optical sensor in the middle of the bottom of the mouse, and two very large Teflon feet in the front and back of the case, thanks to which the mouse glides perfectly on almost any surface:

The cable is thin, braided with fabric, it has an overly pronounced memory effect, but this is compensated by its low weight and there are no problems with it. The length is 1.8 m, so it is enough if the system unit is located somewhere in a side niche under the table (like in my house, for example):

This is not to say that the HyperX Pulsefire FPS looks somehow extraordinary, but at the same time, the company managed to make the design both discreet (by the standards of gaming peripherals) and very pleasant. Plus, high-quality materials are used and everything is assembled at the highest level. Apparently it’s not for nothing that HyperX Pulsefire FPS was given the Red Dot Design Award 2020.

How convenient is it and how does it behave in games?

The mouse is quite large, with a noticeable bend, at the same time relatively light and well balanced and using it with a palm grip is simply gorgeous. The results are fast and precise movements. The good shape and rubberized pads allow you to firmly grip the mouse; it does not slip out of your hand even after a long game. The mouse is also great for gripping with fingers; as for the claw, the situation is worse. I was unable to grab it securely with my claw due to its size, perhaps it would be more comfortable with a larger hand. Although, in fact, I personally don’t know gamers who use a claw grip:

The main buttons use durable Omron switches with a lifespan of 20 million clicks. They provide an excellent, informative and distinct click. The side buttons use Kailh. The side buttons themselves are quite large and well located; when gripping with my palm, I hit them perfectly, without the need for any interceptions or additional movements. The scroll wheel is quiet, does not crack, and has a good rubberized coating with a textured pattern; the finger grips well and does not slip. I already wrote about the legs above: they are really very good and the mouse glides perfectly.

Now let's move on to the sensor and hands-on impressions: The HyperX Pulsefire FPS is equipped with a truly high-quality PixArt 3310 optical sensor with a maximum resolution of 3200 DPI, zero hardware acceleration and the ability to capture movements at speeds of up to 130 inches per second with 30g acceleration. Polling frequency - 1000 Hz. There are four fixed modes: 400/800/1600/3200 DPI, the LED changes color depending on the current mode:

There are no complaints about the operation of the sensor; it works flawlessly, but within its capabilities. Its resolution is sufficient for FullHD displays: for example, in DOOM I was most comfortable playing at the maximum resolution of 3200 DPI; in Star Wars Battlefront I could not decide: 1600 or 3200, although both modes performed very well. Otherwise, the mouse was also used in Battlefield 3, Dying Light, For Honor, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, The Division, Watch Dogs 2, XCOM 2, Satellite Reign and so on. In general, it is perfect for FullHD; I won’t say anything about 4K and configurations with multiple monitors due to the lack of an appropriate monitor or laptop. It is possible that some gamers may not have enough resolution. The controversial point is the lack of software: to some extent I like this solution, but in the case of HyperX Pulsefire FPS you can only select one of four DPI modes. I’m sure there are a huge number of players for whom this will be enough, but for complete happiness I would like the ability to adjust the height of the lift-off from the surface, polling rate and DPI in smaller increments.

Bottom line

The HyperX Pulsefire FPS is an excellent and easy-to-use gaming mouse that left a very positive impression. It is made of practical materials, is well assembled and has a very comfortable shape with good balance, so you can play for a long time without feeling tired. We are very pleased with the already familiar and proven Omron switches, which provide an excellent, distinct click and a high-quality Pixart PMW3310 sensor, with which there are no problems, it works faithfully without any sudden jumps or other surprises. But you should understand that the mouse was tested on FullHD and when moving to 4K and/or multiple monitors, 3200 DPI may not be enough. And from personal wishes: I would like to be able to configure the mouse more flexibly, which can be done without software.
