Brush settings

Brush Tool (hotkey B) - the brush tool most used when drawing. Settings are concentrated in two windows:

• Properties is also a window with which you can configure the scene parameters (see the beginning of the lesson). To show the parameters described below and configure them, activate the brush using the hotkey B: Fill color - stroke color (located in the Fill and Stroke section). To select a color, it is most convenient to use the Color window, which opens using the Window → Color or the key combination Ctrl + Shift + F9;
• Object Drawing - mode of drawing with objects. Make sure this feature is turned off. If you turn it on, each stroke will be saved as a separate object, which will allow you to change their location later. If the option is turned off, then all strokes are superimposed on one another and, for example, strokes of the same color will merge. I never use this mode;
• Brush Shape - the shape of the stroke. I only use the round shape. It is also possible to set your own stroke shape, which I don’t use;
• Size — stroke size. Set to 16. Note that unlike Adobe Photoshop, the brush size depends on the current scale. You can either increase or decrease the size of the brush by zooming in or out of the image. This feature is confusing at first, but you quickly get used to it and realize how convenient it is. This can be disabled using the following option;
• Zoom size with stage - uncheck the box to disable the constant brush size, independent of scale. If you enable it, it will work like in Adobe Photoshop;
• Smoothing —responsible for the degree of smoothing of drawn strokes. An extremely important parameter. If you set the anti-aliasing to low, you will get strokes with a huge number of dots that will look rough and clumsy. To avoid this, just increase the value. We will get nice smoothed lines, although with some loss of detail, which you can easily complete with the next stroke. Set the value to 75 . Over time, adjust this parameter, perhaps a slightly different value suits you.

• Tools - the main window for selecting tools. It can be shown using the Window → Tools or the Ctrl + F2 key combination. The bottom of the window changes depending on the selected tool. In our case, there are the following settings: Fill Color , Object Drawing , Brush Size , Brush Shape - this was in the Properties window;
• Lock Fill - disable. Used only when working with gradients;
• Brush Mode is an important setting that makes your work much easier. I will explain separately in the following lessons, and set it to Paint Normal ;
• Use Pressure - turns on the sensitivity of the graphics tablet's stylus, which allows you to change the thickness of the stroke depending on the pressure applied. Be sure to include;
• Use Tilt - turns on sensitivity to the tilt of the pen, which should affect the shape of the stroke. This option does not work for me, since the tablet is an amateur one.
