The standard way to change how Google Chrome works is to access its settings. Therefore, you can get rid of advertising in your browser through the corresponding item in the menu. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the menu button (top right corner).
- In the list of available options that opens, select “Settings”.
- Go to the settings page, go to the very bottom and click “Advanced”.
- In the “Privacy and Security” section, you need to go to “Site Settings”.
- Here you will find a whole list of items that will be useful when working as a browser. To get rid of advertising and pop-up windows, you need to select two items “Advertising” and “Pop-up windows”, and deactivate the function in each of these windows.
Just like that, advertising that does not provide any benefit is blocked. Additionally, you do not need to restart your computer; you can restart your browser for the settings to take effect.
Chrome Cleanup Tool
Advertising may continue to appear in the browser even when the appropriate settings have been applied. This does not mean that Chrome does not work correctly, but sometimes advertisements are sent by third-party utilities installed on the computer. To detect this problem and apply the necessary measures, you need to use the following special program developed for Google Chrome. It's called the Chrome Cleanup Tool.
What do you need to do? First, download and install this program, and then scan your browser for third-party advertising. So, after you download the Chrome Cleanup Tool, it works like this:
- Launch the program.
- The scanning process begins and its progress is displayed.
- At the end of the scan result, the utility will detect a problem and offer to fix it or give the opposite result: “Nothing found.”
- If no third-party actions are found, but the advertisement remains in the browser, then you can click “Continue” and then you will be taken to a page where you can reset your browser settings. This will allow you to adjust the operation of your web browser.
- If you reset the settings, the browser returns to its original settings, but does not affect your browsing history, saved bookmarks and account passwords.
Extensions
There are a large number of extensions for the Google Chrome browser in the Google WebStore online store. By installing extensions, you can add additional features and programs to your browser. Extensions are installed directly into Google Chrome. The advantage of using extensions is that they are more reliable and have more functionality than standard ad blocking functions. To add the corresponding program to your browser, you must follow the following instructions.
- Launch
- Go to the menu.
- Select “Additional tools”, and then “Extensions”.
- You will be taken to a page with installed extensions and popular ones; to find the blocker, you need to click on the three vertical lines on the left, next to the name “Extensions” and at the bottom go to the “Chrome online store”.
- A search bar will appear on the left, where you can enter the name of the ad blocking program, press Enter and install the extension. We suggest you "AdBlock" or "AdGuard".
AdBlock is considered a popular additional tool for disabling advertising in the browser. This is the number 1 plugin among blockers for Google Chrome. The advantage of installing such an extension is not only its reliable operation and blocking of any advertising, but also completely free use, since many utilities have a free mode only during the test period.
AdGuard is an effective and convenient application for Chrome that helps protect the user not only from annoying but also malicious advertising. It eliminates up to 90% of unnecessary windows and leaves only useful content on the site. Additionally, AdGuard has a number of other important functions that you can activate, and also consumes a small amount of RAM, which is not reflected in the speed of your Internet browsing. After installing the program, its icon will be displayed on the right side of the top toolbar. You can click on it and make the necessary settings, as well as disable or enable it.
Virus check
An additional step to finally get rid of advertising is to scan your computer for viruses. The fact is that a virus attack can extend not only to the action of individual system files, but also to the operation of programs, from which the Google Chrome browser is not protected. And as a result, the appearance of advertising windows continues even after they are blocked by standard tools, since the virus independently sends malicious advertising banners to the browser. Advertising can be considered an element of web pages or the result of a virus. Let's first take a look at contextual advertising, that is, the one that website owners themselves customize in accordance with their content in order to attract customers.
If you visit sites with a lot of banners, it makes sense to disable the option in your browser settings that allows you to remove pop-up ads in Google Chrome.
1.Use the icon with three lines on the top panel to go to the “Settings” section. Scrolling the page. At the bottom there will be the link we need “Show additional settings”. Let's move on. Additional blocks will open.

How to remove ads in the lower right corner of the browser
In addition to advertising banners and pop-ups, you may also be bothered by notifications that appear in the lower right corner. Such alerts are the result of subscribing to different sites and, as a result, the web resource sends you various news, promotions, offers and advertising, including what is displayed as notifications on the right. You've probably encountered the situation when you go to a website, and a subscription offer pops up at the top left, and if you clicked "Allow", you now constantly receive notifications. But here, too, the Google Chrome developers took care of their users and offer to remove such alerts in the settings.
To turn off notifications, follow these steps:
- Launch Chrome.
- Click on the settings button (in the upper right corner).
- In the list of actions, go to “Settings”.
- Next, open “Advanced” and in the “Privacy and Security” section, go to “Site Settings”.
- Select “Notifications” and turn them off.
At this point, you can also disable notifications only for individual sites or for all at once. After you have made the necessary settings, you can restart the browser, but the changes will take effect immediately. Now you can work comfortably and will not be disturbed by notifications or advertising windows. In addition, turning off all advertising-related options allows you to ensure a reliable level of security when browsing the Internet.

FlashBlock utility
In general, the flash block was created as an extension of the Mozilla Firefox browser, but it can also be used in Chrome.
It is designed to block any flash animation on the Internet. As you know, there are two types of advertising: text and media, and so media advertising (Flash animation) is blocked by the Flashblock utility.

Where do pop-up ads come from in Google Chrome?
