Equipment
The HTC 10 64gb package will be discussed in detail as part of our review. The device is delivered in a compact square box. It is stylishly designed and made from matte white cardboard. There are no images on the front side. The internal space is delimited by cardboard inserts and lids. This creates three separate zones for accessories.
The package includes a powerful charger that supports fast charging technology according to the Quick Charge 3.0 standard. The output current varies as follows: 1.7-2.5 A, 5-9 V. In addition, we found the newfangled USB Type C, a stereo headset and a metal clip for unlocking the SIM card tray.
Design and ergonomics
There is no HTC 10 dual sim version available. During our review, we were positively impressed by its design, although it has not changed much compared to previous models. The metal case is still used, which is not very large, but at the same time weighty. The smartphone can be recognized by the characteristic stripes on the back side, which HTC introduced into fashion. Below these strips are antennas mounted on top of the body so that metal does not degrade the signal quality. In general, the new product continues the design of the ONE series, but now there are brighter side ends with clearly visible chamfers.
The front panel of the reviewed HTC 10 lifestyle has slightly smoothed edges and the now popular 2.5D glass. Due to this, the smartphone looks and feels more streamlined in the hand. The main difference is under the display: instead of a corporate logo and empty space, there is an oval touch pad for a fingerprint sensor.
The materials and build quality do not cause any complaints: the metal has a matte structure, and the straight bevels of the side ends are felt when you hold the phone in your hand and do not allow it to slip out. The HTC 10 is quite heavy for its size, so we recommend using a stand when watching movies.
The body is made from a single piece of metal using laser cutting technology. HTC 10 carbon gray 32gb review confirms the absence of plastic inserts, backlash and any other problems. According to the manufacturer, HTC 10 was designed to withstand daily wear and tear, accidental bumps and falls. During testing, the device was exposed to extreme temperatures from -20 to +60 degrees for 168 hours. In addition, it has been dropped approximately 10,000 times on a variety of surfaces and tested for resistance to bending, scratching and corrosion.
Control keys are located on the right side of the device. They are large, so they are easy to find by touch. The power key has additional notches, which makes it easy to distinguish it from the volume key. The ride is quite tight and elastic, but you immediately get used to it. The keys are located conveniently, they fit clearly under the finger.
HTC 10 phone description, price and characteristics make it clear that the device remains relevant even today, occupying an honorable place among modern flagships. The connectors for the SIM card and flash drive are located non-standardly. They are installed on different sides of the smartphone and this is good, but it is impossible to install a second SIM card in the memory card slot.
It is worth noting a significant drawback that we discovered when reviewing the HTC 10 - the camera lens protrudes greatly, which is why it is easy to damage it when working with the phone. The phone is inconvenient to use in a lying position due to the shape of its body. He simply begins to sway from side to side.
On the back cover, in addition to the main camera lens, there is a bright two-color flash. Nearby there is a laser focusing system that provides instant targeting of the subject. Traditionally, the flash can be used as a flashlight.
While reviewing the HTC desire 10 lifestyle, we noticed the rounded edges of the front glass, which looks very attractive, and it feels comfortable in the hand. From above it is easy to distinguish the front camera eye, sensors and speaker grille. The notification indicator is also located right there.
At the bottom there is an oval touch pad with a fingerprint sensor built into it. It instantly recognizes fingerprints and in most cases works the first time.
The main speaker is located at the bottom. It has a grid of 5 large holes. On the other side there is a hole for a conversational microphone, and in the center there is a USB Type C connector. Using an OTG cable, you can connect any external devices.
The HTC 10 32gb lifestyle smartphone also has a second microphone located on the back side. The review shows that the 3.5 minijack is located at the top end.
There is no protection from moisture and dust, and therefore there are no plugs in the design. There are three colors available for buyers to choose from: silver, dark gray and gold.
Display
The HTC 10 carbon gray 64gb screen is produced on the basis of the latest generation Super LCD panel. Formally, this is the same IPS, but with improved color reproduction. Its protection is provided by fourth generation 2.5D Gorilla Glass. Colors look amazing on the 5.2" display. They are pleasant, but at the same time discreet. If you're not a fan of oversaturated AMOLED displays, this is the perfect option. There are two color profiles available for use: standard and rich. The second one is of the greatest interest. Each of the profiles can be customized in its own way, making the shades warmer or cooler.
Automatic brightness adjustment works just disgustingly. We recommend turning it off immediately and adjusting the slider manually. The display of the HTC 10 lifestyle performed well during the review. The brightness reserve is enough for comfortable use in bright sunshine, but you should not expect record-breaking performance. The display resolution is 2560x1440 pixels. The pixel density is high - 564 PPI. There will definitely be no problems with detailing here. Color rendering pleases with realistic colors.
HTC 10 sound
The manufacturer introduced the fashion for stereo speakers by installing them in the HTC One M7. Over time, they evolved into a technology called BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition. Two speakers are used, but they are located differently and there is no need to talk about full-fledged stereo. The speaker is located near the selfie camera. It reproduces high frequencies. And the bottom speaker is responsible for low and mid frequencies. The manufacturer experimented by providing a separate amplifier for each speaker. The sound is now less loud, but on the other hand it has become better. It's even more interesting with headphones.
Why update the firmware on Android
Everyone is motivated by different reasons.
- There are problems with the front selfie camera; let’s say it takes pictures that are far from the quality indicated on the lens.
- Poor display response to touch.
- I would like to understand what the new Android is.
- I'm tired of the old version of Android and want new features and capabilities.
- The phone doesn't want to turn on.
- The phone stopped charging.
Camera
The HTC 10 camera review needs to start with the fact that the manufacturer has again used ultrapixel technology, but now a 12 megapixel module is installed. Each megapixel has a size of 1.55 microns, which, in combination with a fast f/1.8 lens with optical stabilization, guarantees high quality images. A second generation laser focus is also used, which works instantly and without any complaints.
The front camera here is 5 megapixels. It features a wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture, and thanks to the screen backlight, you can take selfies even at night. In addition, for the first time in the world, both cameras are equipped with an optical stabilization system. The front camera of the HTC 10 smartphone takes pictures at the highest level, the quality is worthy of a flagship.
Example photo:
The camera interface is quite original, but very easy to get used to. Everything here is intuitive even for an inexperienced user. When you click on an icon in the top row, a row with specific parameters for that option or mode is displayed below it. This is more convenient than vertical swiping.
In manual mode, you can set white balance, shutter speed, and ISO level. There is a face and smile tracking mode.
Videos can be shot in 4K resolution with FLAC audio. Slow motion mode at 720p resolution is supported. The HTC 10 Lifestyle has no problems with recording quality. The video is clear, with excellent detail and sharpness. There are no slowdowns or artifacts. The sound is recorded in high quality and clearly, which is helped by the advanced noise reduction system.

HTC 10, front camera
HTC continues to search for the optimal camera for its smartphones. A couple of generations ago there were ultrapixels with a critically low module resolution, then suddenly there was a jump to 20 megapixels - and now there’s a rollback again. The HTC 10 uses a 12-megapixel module with 1.55-micron photosensitive elements, high-aperture (ƒ/1.8) optics, dual LED flash, laser autofocus and optical stabilization. By the way, HTC also calls this camera ultrapixel. And it seems that the Taiwanese have managed to find a balance.
HTC 10, main camera unit
The lens protrudes slightly above the surface of the body, but is located in the center - it is almost impossible to block it with your finger when pointing it, so it collects fewer fingerprints. Next to it we see a flash and laser autofocus unit. It is not hybrid, as is now fashionable; the usual contrast method plus laser illumination is used. It works, however, in most cases without failures - quickly and quite clearly. Slips and fidgeting happen in poor lighting conditions. Sometimes he misses the mark on portraits – but I wouldn’t say that very often.
The camera interface is quite scanty, there are minimal settings, but it is convenient to use, the logic is simple. You can enable RAW recording—HTC smartphones have been boasting about this for the second year in a row. In the “professional” mode, you can manually adjust white balance, exposure compensation, photosensitivity, shutter speed and exposure metering.
“Ten” is good at stitching together panoramas and taking pictures along with three-second videos. The latter, however, even with the active assistance of Apple, did not take off - Live Photos are not very popular.
In the pictures below you can see how the cameras of the HTC 10 and one of the best smartphones in terms of photography in 2020, the Huawei P9, performed in the same situations.

HTC finally has a truly worthwhile camera. It’s not easy to survive a duel with Huawei P9 – but the “ten” succeeded in many ways. Yes, it cannot boast of a very wide dynamic range, and color rendering can perhaps be called too cold, especially in low light conditions. There are also some complaints about the detailing. But in terms of clarity of pictures in the dark, HTC 10 is superior to Huawei P9 - and this is a very good indicator. In macro photography they are on par, with Huawei's slight advantage in micro sharpness.

Fans of oversaturated photos with over-sharpness will hardly be pleased with the HTC 10's capabilities - the device excels rather at the naturalness of the picture and smooth performance in various scenes. But it is quite competitive compared to other flagships, surpassing, for example, the Sony Xperia X - and this is an achievement for HTC.
The smartphone can record video with a resolution of up to 4K. It turns out well - almost without jerking, quite soft and clear. The smartphone can also record video in 720p at 120 frames per second.
The front camera is even more interesting - yes, there are only five megapixels, but the pixel size is almost the same as that of the rear module - 1.34 microns. And this is not the most important thing: there is autofocus and - attention! - optical stabilization! This allows you to take acceptable self-portraits even in low light conditions. Because of the stabilizer, however, we had to make a rather thick body - but this is a completely justified sacrifice. Don't expect high detail from selfies, but compared to the vast majority of other smartphones, HTC 10 looks great.
Interface
The HTC 10 lifestyle smartphone technical specifications are complemented by a pleasant interface, which our review will show. The device is based on Android OS 6.0.1, on top of which the proprietary HTC Sense shell is superimposed. In the new version of the interface, everything remains virtually unchanged. The only thing is that some elements have been simplified a little, for example, the camera control interface. Icons have become more compact, and there are so few pre-installed programs that they all fit on one screen. We were disappointed by the lack of our own music player and file manager.
You can take an original approach to setting up the desktop area. You can arrange all the widgets and icons in your own way, change their size, create folders and much more. There is support for gestures, but there are not many of them.
operating system
The main advantage of the HTC 10 Evo is the beautiful and convenient graphical shell HTC Sense UI, in the latest versions of which a bunch of unnecessary applications were thrown out, leaving mostly standard Android applications and several proprietary ones, as well as widgets.
However, there is one strange innovation. When you swipe across the screen from left to right, a news feed opens, which is a long “sheet” with a scroll down, it’s not clear who needs this and why.
Otherwise, and in terms of settings, this is almost pure, familiar Android, which has already been updated to an acceptable level and manufacturers began to gradually abandon the clumsy proprietary firmware, making only cosmetic changes and some of their own features.
HTC 10 performance
HTC 10 phone specifications are based on the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4-core architecture. The maximum core frequency is 2.15 GHz. The Adreno 530 chip is responsible for the graphics part. This version has 4 GB of RAM, of which almost half is used by the system, as well as 32 GB of internal memory (23.4 GB available). A version with 64 GB of memory is available for sale. Fortunately, the capacity can be increased by installing a memory card.
The technical characteristics of the HTC desire 10 pro phone allow you to run any games at maximum graphics settings. This is not surprising, because the top platform at the time of release is used.

HTC 10 officially unveiled: powerful specs and great design
HTC held a virtual web presentation of the new flagship smartphone - HTC 10. This device can rightfully bear the title of the best smartphone in history; it combines all modern technologies and excellent design that will not leave anyone indifferent.
Telegram channel of the creator of Trashbox about technology
It's worth starting with the design, as they did a really good job on it. HTC 10 is encased in an aluminum body with a striking appearance, which is achieved by sharply beveled side edges. The design concept is a cross between the HTC One A9 and the latest One M9/M8 flagships. The device definitely looks nice and stands out from the competition from the Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and others.
One of the most interesting components in HTC 10 is two high-quality speakers with support for HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition technology. The sound output to these speakers is 24-bit quality. It is also worth noting that the audio jack has a separate amplifier - the sound will definitely be very interesting.
Another important part of the device is the cameras. The main one is 12-megapixel with UltraPixel technology, dual LED flash, the ability to shoot 4K video, photos in RAW format, as well as slow-motion videos in 720p resolution at 120 FPS. There is also optical stabilization. The front camera is 5 megapixel with a wide-angle sensor (86°) and optical stabilization. HTC 10 is the first Android smartphone to feature OIS optical stabilization on both cameras.
Other technical characteristics of the HTC 10 smartphone:
- 5.2-inch Super LCD display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels;
- quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (64 bit, 2.2 GHz);
- 4 GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of user memory with support for microSD cards;
- fingerprint scanner in the Home button;
- USB Type-C;
- battery with a capacity of 3,000 mAh (supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 fast charging).
The device runs on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system with the new Sense 8.0 shell. This add-on has become cleaner, more convenient and lighter in terms of unnecessary elements. A Freestyle mode has also appeared - custom wallpapers. And among the software features it is worth noting support for Apple AirPlay. HTC 10 is the first Android smartphone in this regard.
HTC has so far only announced the price of the 32 GB model - $700 in the USA. In some countries (in Russia, for example), a simplified version of the flagship - HTC 10 Lifestyle - will be available. The device will receive a weaker Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 3 GB of RAM and a less fast communication module. Prices for this version have not been announced.
Autonomy
The HTC 10's autonomy is ensured by a 3000 mAh battery. The result is very standard, as for a modern flagship. In terms of autonomy, the smartphone shows average results. It will work quietly all day if you use it in medium mode. Without power-saving mode, the smartphone lasted 14 hours in reading mode, 8 hours 30 minutes when playing videos and 4 hours 30 minutes in games.
Thanks to third-generation fast charging technology, the smartphone is fully charged in 1.5 hours when using a standard charger.
Conclusion
HTC 10 phone specifications and prices are chosen very reasonably. If at the start of sales the manufacturer asked for a fabulous price of 50,000 rubles, now it can be found for a little more than 30,000, despite the fact that the characteristics remain relevant.
Advantages:
- Convenient and original interface;
- Modern design;
- High-quality sound;
- Cameras with ultra pixel technology;
- Fast charging function;
- Excellent filling.
Flaws:
- Lack of a version with two SIM cards;
- 4x4 application grid.

Battery life of HTC One X10
A 4000 mAh battery allows you to count on decent battery life. Although the battery performed poorly during real testing, you expect much more from such a capacious battery. On average, a smartphone can easily survive until the evening, but the next day the remaining charge will no longer be enough, so it has to be charged.
HTC One X10 review in Russian introduces the results of battery testing:
- When reading at minimum brightness, the smartphone lasted about 17 hours;
- In continuous video playback in 720p quality at the same brightness, it lasted 12 hours;
- In games, battery life was a little less than 5 hours, but a lot depends on the game itself.
The HTC One X10 dual sim silver charges in 2 hours 50 minutes when using the included charger with 1.8A/5V parameters. There is no support for fast and wireless charging technology.
