Operating system and other software

Operating system Android 4.4.2 KitKat plus some . In general, everything is very pleasant, I liked it.

There is little pre-installed software. Polaris Office, and several proprietary programs (abDocs, abFiles, abMusic, abPhoto, abVideo, AcerSnapNote), which no one will ever use anyway. Alas, everything cannot be removed.

Equipment

The compact striped box with a picture of a smartphone on the folding flap looks rather inconspicuous. Inside, in addition to the smartphone itself, there are instructions, a USB cable, an adapter for charging from the mains (5.2V, 1.35A) and a wired headset with a flat cable.

Appearance

ACER Liquid Z630 has a plastic body with a removable back panel, which seems to have been rubbed for a long time with coarse sandpaper. The laconic exterior of the device is enlivened by the silver speaker circle, which is in harmony with the manufacturer’s logo on the front panel. At the top there is an LED event indicator. Another interesting design find is a tapering strip at the ends, visually distorting the geometry of the case.

The central place on the back panel is occupied by another manufacturer’s logo. The metallized foil from which it is made, judging by the reviews, often comes off, which is what happened in the case of the test sample. Note the large eyepiece of the camera, through which you can see almost the entire photographic sensor. The design also provides: a single-tone flash and an additional microphone for a noise reduction system.

Display

The IPS screen of the Liquid Z630 makes a mixed impression. Color rendition, viewing angles, contrast and uniformity of illumination are not satisfactory; noticeable color changes appear only when viewed diagonally, however, HD resolution is not enough for a 5.5” matrix. Due to the visible pixelation, small fonts on such a screen are difficult to read.

Another significant disadvantage is the low maximum brightness - the screen noticeably goes blind in the sun. At the same time, the factory did not forget to apply an oleophobic coating to the glass. The screen sensor recognizes up to five simultaneous touches and, in addition, responds to gestures on the locked screen.

Iron

Quad-core MediaTek MT6735 with a frequency of 1.3 GHz, Mali-T720 graphics, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory - a standard set typical for inexpensive Android in early 2020.

This configuration is used in a wide variety of devices and has already proven itself to be a good compromise between cost and performance. The MT6735 copes with both synthetic tests and the vast majority of real tasks.

The frame rate in games that require the power of the hardware platform is kept at the level of 25-30 frames per second, which is certainly not the maximum desired, but is sufficient for modern games.

Acer Liquid X2: review of Taiwanese Android with three SIM cards

Acer called its smartphone Liquid X2, although it should have been called Liquid X3, since it comes to the market with three SIM cards instead of one in the original version.

The number of SIM card slots gives it an edge, but the phone itself isn't cutting-edge. 720p resolution on a 5.5-inch display doesn't look too good. However, budget constraints fortunately do not affect most other areas. The MT6753 Mediatek chipset seems to be quite powerful. There's a respectable 32GB of storage, as well as 3GB of RAM. There is also a 13 MP main and front camera with LED flash. Many people don't need more. Except for a powerful, removable 4020 mAh battery. And she is there too. Not bad at all for a budget offer.

Key Features:

– 5.5-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720p and a density of 267 pixels per inch;

– support for three SIM cards;

– the case is completely plastic, the back cover is removable;

– eight-core Mediatek MT6753 processor at 1.3 GHz, Mali-T720MP4 graphics chip, 3 GB of RAM;

– 13-megapixel main camera with autofocus, one LED flash and the ability to record 1080p video at 30 frames per second and exactly the same front camera, but without autofocus;

– 32 GB of internal memory + MicroSD slot;

– Android Lollipop 5.1;

– LTE communication category 4 (150/50 MB per second); Wi-Fi b/g/n; Bluetooth 4.0; GPS; MicroUSB, FM radio;

– 4020 mAh battery;

– Standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, 24-bit/192 kHz DAP, Dolby DTS HD certified.

Main disadvantages:

– the resolution is not quite enough for such a large screen;

– Android 5.1 is somewhat outdated.

Looking at the above list of shortcomings, one can only smile. Perhaps the biggest drawback is the low pixel density, but this is simply necessary to fit the smartphone into the budget category. In fact, everything is not so bad and the picture looks no worse than on an iPhone.

Package

The Acer Liquid X2 comes in a fairly basic retail box with a picture of the device printed on the lid. Don't expect to find much inside, there is only the most necessary standard: USB cable, AC adapter (5.2V / 1.35A) and phone. There aren't even headphones.

We pick up the handset and see that the Acer Liquid X2 is not a compact device at all. This is evidenced by the dimensions 153.3 × 78.8 × 8.5 mm. It's quite wide for its screen diagonal, even wider than the Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. It's also taller than the regular 5.5-inch Zenfone 2.

Liquid X2 weighs 166 grams, which is also quite noticeable. Especially for a plastic phone. The reason for this is the huge battery.

Equipment overview

Liquid X2 is similar to Japanese Sony ones. The same square, with barely rounded edges. Is it completely plastic, although the back cover is made with an imitation of brushed metal. Even though it is plastic, it is very difficult to remove.

The camera lens and flash point out at us through cutouts on the back.

The lens ring sticks out a little. But the camera is reliably protected by glass. So you can safely place the gadget on the table with its back side without getting scratched. Also on the back is the company logo and a huge mesh that hides the loudspeaker. By itself, it takes up only half its size.

At the front, the display is surrounded by a checkered pattern, which may be trying to disguise the rather thick bezel. The touch buttons are located right on the screen, so it’s not entirely clear why the phone needs such a large “chin” under them. A signature with the company’s brand would fit on a smaller segment. But the area above the display is quite densely occupied. It houses the front camera, backlight, various light and proximity sensors, a notification indicator and a speaker.

The power button and volume rocker are on the right side of the phone, with card slots under the hood. There's nothing on the left side.

The MicroUSB port is at the bottom. Acer insists on placing it centrally. There is a microphone next to it. At the top of the gadget there is a 3.5 mm jack and a secondary microphone.

In the hand, the smartphone feels a little bulky due to the large frame, but due to the flat back it doesn’t seem to be that big. The relatively flat sides do provide a significant amount of real estate, but it also helps the smartphone feel good in the hand because the back is quite slippery.

Final words

Acer Liquid X2 is a fancy smartphone with three SIM cards that has grown up, but has not yet matured, like a child who has stretched out compared to the rest of his peers. But this is a pretty sweet child, and he leaves quite a positive impression after meeting him.

The plastic build, of course, won't give you the feeling of a premium device in your hand, but the smartphone looks quite good. The user can remove everything himself, remove it and not involve service centers to replace the battery. This is rare now. And the screen, despite the low resolution, shows a good picture and works only in bright sunlight. Again the battery life is impressive. Pure Android software without changes will not force you to remove unnecessary programs that are usually found in proprietary firmware. The cameras take good video. The quality is average, with soft colors and good contrast. The smartphone easily competes with gadgets priced at $250–300, being offered a little cheaper.

Software

During testing, the Liquid Z630 received two software updates. They did not affect the Android version (5.1), however, the OS received a security update from April 2020 and a number of minor fixes in the proprietary shell called Acer Liquid UI.

We have already seen some of the features present here in the Acer Liquid Zest 4G. We are talking about a changed menu color scheme, a news aggregator built into one of the desktops, a DTS Sound Studio sound equalizer, a power on/off schedule and Quick Touch gestures on the locked screen.

In addition, the Liquid Z630 has customizable shortcuts in the notification shade and supports windowed mode for select applications, such as calendar, Google maps or the browser. In general, the shell can be described as fast and not overloaded with functionality, with one “but”. It is filled with a very large number of third-party applications. We counted 23 partner utilities and three (!) built-in instruction manuals.

Third party applications #

Let's see what comes with our standard set of standard software. Recall that the kernel version of the Google Android

– 1.6, and since it will soon change to 2.1, we are not considering standard software. And now, in order:

  • Acer Settings
    is an application whose purpose of existence is quick access to the settings most popular among users. Namely, to control wireless connections, ringtone, brightness and display timeout, as well as social networks.
  • AcerSync
    is essentially a mobile appendage of a proprietary program for synchronizing Google account data, Windows contacts and a communicator.
  • Nemoplayer
    is an alternative player to the standard set of media players. It uses media sorting by tabs (Graphics, Music and Video), all tabs also have a horizontally scrollable gallery and several types of sorting.
  • Media server
    - this application allows you to turn your communicator into a wireless network server, allowing access to music, videos and pictures stored on the device.
  • Documents To Go
    is an application from DataViz, which, as you might guess, is a program for working with office documents, similar to
    Office Mobile
    . Also presented is a synchronization client application based on Microsoft Exchange, from the same company. The applications are shareware (you will have to pay for updates), so they require registration or purchasing the full version.
  • Panel Sensitivity
    – Controls the sensitivity of the touchpad. Located in the screen settings menu.
  • Software update
    is strictly speaking not an application, but rather a system function. Allows you to update standard software and system via wireless connections.
  • Linpus Russian Keyboard
    is a program that replaces the standard Android OS keyboard. Supports Russian layout. Settings are in the same section as the standard keyboard.

It can also work in horizontal screen mode.

You can call the camera from the application menu, with the “Camera” shortcut (if you previously “dragged” it to the desktop) or by pressing a button on the case - all options are equivalent.

At the bottom there is a magnification slider. There is also a video recording mode, switching is done using the menu called up by the button with three stripes. There you can also access the settings of both modes.

Pictures are created by pressing the corresponding side button of the communicator. Let us remind you that the maximum resolution of a photo camera is 5 MPx (2592x1944), and that of a video camera is VGA (640x480).

You can see test images in maximum resolution below.

As for video, the file format is 3GP (H.263 or MPEG4 codecs are used), frame rate is 26.43 fps. Sound – samr codec, 128 kbit/sec, 8000 Hz, mono. Video examples can be downloaded from the following links:

Snapdragon platform

is currently one of the most powerful and in demand, therefore, as expected,
Acer Liquid
correctly and quickly, and the communicator successfully installed and launched all applications. Although the processor operates at a lower frequency, 768 MHz, this did not affect the subjective operating speed in our opinion.

Tests in specialized applications gave the following results.

In a word, it is a subjectively stable and fast device, like all existing models on this platform.

Inside Acer Liquid

Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1350 mAh. We first tested the device in audio player mode (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules are disabled, GPS is disabled, GSM is enabled, volume is 5 divisions out of 15) and under heavy network load (every 20 seconds the browser reloads the page www.f1cd.ru, GSM turned on, screen brightness at 0.4 scale).

Test results:

  • Playing music – 15 hours 26 minutes.
  • Network load – 8 hours 40 minutes.

The results can be considered good - almost all communicators today are not yet designed for long wanderings around the area without a power outlet.

The WiFi module works great, automatically searches for free networks, and once found, quietly transmits data. Acer Liquid

supports Bluetooth 2.0, but for the OS version you are using, it is advisable to use third-party software.

As for the phone's functions, there are no complaints about operation or audibility. The communicator itself operates in networks of the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 MHz bands.

We connect to the computer via a miniUSB connector according to the USB 2.0 standard. Transfer speed appropriate for a communicator flash drive:

  • For copying from a card, approximately 8-9 MB/s.
  • To write to the card about 6 MB/s.

Well, ]Acer[/anchor] made the right decision - the communicator turned out to be very worthy, and for your money - at the time of writing, 16,990 rubles - simply one of the best options for purchase. Support for all modern technologies, fast operation, high-quality screen - everything is as it should be, but the OS update to version 2.1 is missing.

As Acer explained to us, the firmware update will be released around the second half of April 2010, but for now the same device has been announced, but with an additional letter E at the end - all the difference is in the already pre-installed Google Android 2.1

.

Additionally, we note that the touch keys work perfectly - no errors in operation, despite our concerns, were identified.

For the excellent ratio of price, quality and functionality, we award the Acer Liquid

honorary award from the

Connection

ACER Liquid Z630 has two slots for micro-SIM cards, as well as a separate microSD slot that supports storage devices up to 64 GB. The smartphone has one radio module, which means that in standby mode both SIMs remain simultaneously, but only one of them can be active - a standard solution for most devices on the market. Due to the relative position of the battery and slots, hot swapping of cards is not possible. Liquid Z630 LTE frequencies that are relevant in the post-Soviet space. In addition, there is FM radio and USB-OTG support.

During operation, we several times encountered situations where interlocutors complained about the quality of communication. We also note the low volume of the speaker. As for navigation, it worked normally after updating the satellite database via the Internet and indicated the location accurately.

Introduction

Almost all modern smartphones run the Android operating system.
Some manufacturers use a standard interface, while others release proprietary shells, completely redesigning and rethinking the entire device control model, such as Xiaomi with MIUI and Meizu with Flyme OS. And yet, these shells are based on the Android OS. But smartphones based on the Microsoft Windows Phone platform are found in the hands of users much less often, and they do not appear in the laboratory so often. Of the most interesting options that passed our tests, we can recall the “flagship” Nokia Lumia 830, based on Windows Phone 8.1. Much water has passed under the bridge since then, and Microsoft has united all its gadgets into a single ecosystem called Microsoft Windows 10.

Thanks to our partner - online store Bayon.ru

, we will pay attention to Acer’s flagship smartphone –
Acer Liquid Jade Primo
.

This manufacturer hardly needs any introduction, being well known for its laptops, monitors and tablets. In contrast, Acer smartphones are less popular, although they occupy a certain niche in the market.

Perhaps it was the Redmond company’s desire to create a unified system and the presence of an arsenal of its own devices that prompted the Taiwanese brand to release Acer Liquid Jade models.

It is worth finding out whether there is a place in the sun for a Windows flagship among the armada of Android smartphones, and assessing what global innovations have occurred with the release of the new version of the OS. Let's start traditionally with the technical characteristics.

The characteristics look good even against the background of competing solutions, inspiring confidence that the Acer model will perform well in tests and in practice, and will not cause problems during operation, but, on the contrary, will only delight you.

If we talk about specific points, we can note a large supply of RAM and a not very capacious battery. However, the latter is easily explained by the energy-efficient AMOLED display and the operating system, which is quite reasonable in terms of energy consumption.

Packaging and equipment Acer Liquid Jade Primo

The manufacturer did not imitate the majority and pack its device in a standard box with a lid. Here the packaging is much more interesting.

Structurally, the box is a box with a valve lid made of very thick cardboard with an interesting texture. Outwardly and tactilely, it imitates dense fabric and is perceived extremely positively. This box retracts into a cover that contains design elements.

The main design on the cover is stylized as metal. On the front side there is a photograph of the device itself, logos of the manufacturer, operating system and smartphone model.

The reverse side may be of interest only to a photo of the device from the back.

At the top end there are icons of the main characteristics. And all the information about a specific instance is located at the end of the main box, which is justified and logical.

And since the cover is precisely fitted to the box itself, removing the latter is not so easy. Then it’s simpler - in order to open the valve, a fabric tongue is provided. The model name is embossed on the cover itself.

Inside we are immediately greeted by a smartphone. It is packed in thick shipping film and fixed in a special recess.

The rest of the space is divided into two sections with a separate lid for each. Under the device itself there is a small cover with technical documentation and a clip for opening the slot for SIM cards and a memory card.

On the other side, another box is hidden under the lid. It contains complete accessories.

The package includes:

  • Power adapter with two attachments;
  • USB-USB Type C cable;
  • Wired stereo headset;
  • Set of replaceable ear pads;
  • Clip for removing SIM cards and memory cards;
  • Technical documentation.

It is worth noting that in this case, along with the smartphone, the buyer also receives a docking station, packaged separately. Thanks to it, you can turn Acer Liquid Jade Primo into a full-fledged PC by connecting a mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Battery

The ACER Liquid Z630 battery capacity stated in the specifications is 4000 mAh, but testing has shown that you should not blindly trust this figure. The actual energy reserve of the Liquid Z630 is indicated on the battery as minimal and 100 mAh less.

However, this did not prevent the smartphone from working for 8 hours and 56 minutes in our proprietary battery test - a good indicator. It takes approximately four and a half hours to fully charge the battery.

Camera

Like the Acer Liquid Z530, which we tested earlier, the Liquid Z630 has two cameras with a resolution of 8 MP. The camera application interface is standard for Acer smartphones of this line. It has all the basic capabilities that an average user might need (HDR, panoramas, color filters), but it provides few opportunities for manually adjusting shooting parameters.

The shots obtained with the Liquid Z630 are practically no different from those that can be taken on the Acer Liquid Z530 - exactly what you expect from an 8 MP camera - a solid average level with somewhat pale panoramic shots, rich macro images during the day and dark and noisy night shots.

Acer Liquid E700 as a photo and video camera

Rear:8 MP (3264×2448 or 3840×2160)
Video:FullHD (1920x1088), 30 fps
Front:2 MP (1600×1200 or 1792×1008)

The camera was disappointing. If you need some semblance of a mobile camera, the E700 is definitely not your option.

In the dark, you don’t even have to try to shoot.

Sometimes in the sun you get something tolerable, but not every time. The pictures are soapy.

The HDR mode struck me to the core because even in excellent lighting it produced stupidly double frames every now and then.

8 more photos

Several dozen more photos.

The camera app is sluggish and barely moves.

But the interface of the camera application, by the way, pleased me. Comfortable. You can add HDR as a separate button to the first screen. You can set exposure at an arbitrary point on the screen and not necessarily at the point on which you focus. Etc. This interface could use more powerful hardware so it doesn’t crawl like a turtle...

Screenshots of the camera interface (4 pcs.)

The video quality was also not impressive, even though it was FullHD.

Example video

The front camera is equipped with a flash. However, their efforts were in vain. The quality of this camera is such that, with or without a flash, it is impossible to get pictures of tolerable quality. Not for selfies, smartphone, in short.

Let's sum it up

It is difficult to draw clear conclusions regarding the Acer Liquid Z630. It seems to be a typical device based on the MediaTek MT6735, of which there are a lot on the market: unremarkable cameras, a plastic body, low screen brightness and widespread defective cover - all this does not look very attractive. But if you add a 5.5” screen and a long battery life to the list of mandatory requirements, pay attention to such unnoticeable but important little things as an oleophobic screen coating or USB-OTG support, and it turns out that you should take a closer look at the Liquid Z630 if only because that there are not many smartphones with the same set of advantages in this price category.

Pros:

  • Battery life;
  • Overall quality of the 5.5” IPS panel and its oleophobic coating;
  • Responsive operation of the operating system.

Minuses:

  • Low pixel density and maximum screen brightness;
  • Low volume of external speaker.

May not like:

  • The cameras are not outstanding;
  • Occasionally there are communication problems;
  • Lots of affiliate software;
  • A common defect in the inscription on the battery compartment cover.

Final score: 6 out of 10.
