Motorola P30 – new mid-range from Lenovo – P30, P30 Note, P30 Play

Lenovo actively supports the Motorola brand: at the time of writing this review, almost 20 models were released under the logo of the formerly legendary manufacturer. Over the past two weeks, three smartphones of the new Moto P30 line have come out of the company’s production line: a model with an increased battery capacity, the Moto P30 Note, the Moto P30 Play, a simplified variation of the base model, and, in fact, the Moto P30. All three models are representatives of the mid-price segment. In their design, they combined all modern market trends, and their characteristics can sufficiently support the operation of the system under different loads. In this information material you can read a detailed review of all three Motos, read reviews of the P30, P30 Note, P30 Play, and also look at their competitors.

Motorola P30 is the company’s first attempt to copy the design of the iPhone X. The presentation of the new device and line took place in Beijing on August 15, 2020. The smartphone is indeed very reminiscent of the latest flagship smartphone from Apple: there is a visor on which the front camera and sensors are located, there is a horizontal placement of the dual main camera, there is a glass body. If it weren’t for the “Motorola” inscription on the “beard”, then when the smartphones are turned off, the smartphones could be confused. The Motorola P30 is also distinguished from its American counterpart by a fingerprint scanner, which is located in the center of the back cover. On the bottom edge of the smartphone you can find a USB Type C 2.0 connector and an external speaker output - everything is more or less standard. If we are talking about the dimensions of the Motorola P30, then they are quite normal for the end of 2020: despite the large screen, most users will be able to control the phone with one hand - thanks to the framelessness.

By the way, the Moto P30 is frameless: everything is fine: the display occupies 82% of the front panel of the device. It's really high quality: 6.2″, IPS panel, 2246x1080, 402 ppi, 2.5D glass, 1500:1 contrast, 450 nits brightness, 19:9 format. During use, you are unlikely to have any questions about it. The Moto P30 is powered by a new mid-range chip from Snapdragon. The name of this chipset is Snapdragon 636. The processor is not the most powerful, but in the synthetic Antutu test, in conjunction with 6 GB of RAM, it achieves 110,000 - this result is more than enough to run all games and applications on the smartphone. If we are talking about the technical part of the chipset, then the 636 Dragon is an eight-core processor that includes eight cores of the Cryo 260 type: 4 cores are converted from Cortex-A73 (powerful solutions), and the remaining 4 are customized Cortex-A53 (energy efficient). Adreno 509 is responsible for the graphics in the phone. With mobile photography, as well as with performance, the Moto P30 is doing well: the smartphone is equipped with a vertical dual camera with a 16-megapixel module (f/1.8) and an additional one (f/2.2). It supports all modern features: HDR shooting, manual mode, panoramic and portrait shooting with bokeh effect - please, Moto P30 can handle everything. The front camera is good, but without features - 12 megapixels, f/2.0 aperture) camera with AI functions and a wide-angle lens. From the rest: the Moto P30 has not been deprived of a 3.5 mm jack, the phone supports Bluetooth 5.0, the Moto P30 has a hybrid layer for a SIM card, there is a face recognition function, wireless charging, but the smartphone is not equipped with NFC - it’s a pity. The new product has a standard capacity battery of 3000 mAh, non-removable. Out of the box, the Moto P30 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with ZUI 4.0 skin. We left our review of the Motorola Moto P30 in the form of its main pros and cons.

At the IFA 2020 exhibition, Lenovo brought a new product called Moto P30 Note. If you don’t delve deeply into the technical characteristics of the device, then the Moto P30 Note is the same Moto P30, only with a 5000 mAh battery. The phones are similar in size, they have the same design, inspired by the iPhone X, the same processor (Snapdragon 636) and cameras with the same technical characteristics.

However, the Moto P30 Note has variability: you can buy a Moto P30 Note with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, or choose a top-end modification with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of user memory - in the case of the Moto P30, you do not have such a choice. Otherwise, the Moto P30 Note has the same pros and cons: it has support for GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, fast charging, face unlock and USB Type-C, but lacks an NFC module and adequate pricing. The smartphone is already on sale: the price of the Motorola Moto P30 Note starts at $300. The new product will arrive to its buyer with Android 8.1 Oreo on board and the proprietary ZUI 4.0 shell pumped on top of it. We left our review of the Motorola Moto P30 Note in the form of its main pros and cons.

Motorola Moto P30 Note advantages:

Motorola Moto P30 competitors:

  • Asus Zenfone Max Pro – $180
  • Xiaomi Mi Max 3 – $270
  • BQ Aquaris X2 – $300

Motorola P30 smartphone presented - a pale copy of the iPhone X

As expected, Motorola introduced the mid-level smartphone model P30. Just yesterday the device appeared on the Chinese official website of the manufacturer, and today the device is available for pre-order.

The best Telegram channel about technology (possibly)

Motorola P30 is equipped with a 6.2-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2246x1080 pixels. At the top of the screen there is a cutout a la iPhone X. The body is made of metal. The back cover is coated with metallic silicon powder using high temperature and double-sided polishing, which creates a gradient color effect.

The hardware basis of the smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, paired with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. There is also a version with 128 GB of internal memory.

Motorola P30 received a dual main camera with OmniVision modules of 16 and 5 megapixels. The main lens has an aperture of f/1.8, the secondary lens has an aperture of f/2.2. There is a dual-tone flash, autofocus, HDR, portrait mode and the now fashionable support for artificial intelligence. The front camera has a 12 megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. There is a portrait mode with background blur, AI, facial recognition and augmented reality support.

The smartphone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery with support for 18 W fast charging. The software is Android 8.0 Oreo OS with ZUI 4.0 shell. The device comes without pre-installed Google services, which is not surprising, since it is intended for the Chinese market. It is expected that the global version will be presented a little later at IFA 2020.

The latest announcement from Lenovo is Moto P30 Play. The smartphone was shown on September 7 and it is the “younger” brother in the new line due to a weaker processor. The fact is that the Moto P30 Play was equipped with a proven, but no longer so relevant, Snapdragon 625 chip. This eight-core processor has been one of the most popular technical solutions for the last two years, but for 2020 it is already rather weak. There are more current processors that would look much better on board the Moto P30 Play. What can Snapdragon 625 bring? Just 65,000 points in Antutu and good energy efficiency. An inexperienced buyer may fall for the tempting “Play” prefix in the name of the new product and decide that he can run serious games on the Moto P30 Play. Yes, he will be able to run them, but he won’t be able to enjoy them to the fullest – minimal settings and that’s it.

Otherwise, your smartphone will turn into a stove. We decided not to come up with anything new with the design of the Moto P30 Play: it was transferred from the previously presented Moto P30 and Moto P30 Note. The only difference is that the screen was made smaller and the more affordable smartphone was given less framelessness: the Moto P30 Play display occupies 79% of the front panel. By the way, the screen of this smartphone is not as “juicy” as that of its older brothers: 5.86″, IPS panel, 720x1520, 287 ppi, 2.5D glass, contrast 1500:1, brightness 450 nits, 79% NTSC, 18:9 format . Here the pixel density is lower and the matrix is of lower quality. No, the screen is not bad, but for the money they could have delivered something better. The cameras of the Motorola Moto P30 Play are not enough stars from the sky: the rear camera consists of a main 13 MP and an additional 2 MP module. Aperture – f/2.0 and f/2.4 respectively. Front camera – 8 MP with f/2.2 aperture. There is a feature to unlock the user's face. There is also a standard fingerprint scanner - it can be found on the back cover of the smartphone. Inside the Motorola Moto P30 Play the battery is not very powerful – 3000 mAh, non-removable. The phone does not support NFC. The new product runs Android 8 Oreo and the proprietary ZUI 4.0 shell. We left our review of the Motorola Moto P30 Play in the form of its main pros and cons.
