Vernee is a young and very ambitious Chinese mobile technology manufacturer that is truly attentive to its reputation and commitment to customers. The company managed to organize an effective after-sales service system, as well as a system of constant quality control at the enterprise. Vernee, like many other manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom, is doing everything possible to ensure that consumers no longer associate Chinese equipment with low-grade fakes made “on the knee.” The company calls honesty one of its key principles on its official website.
Products for users from Russia - however, there are all the prerequisites that this will soon change. The company has already released several remarkable and inexpensive gadgets, making geeks and market experts talk about itself - and yet it is only 2 years old!
Which Vernee smartphone lines are relevant for 2020?
Most of the lines of mobile devices from the Vernee catalog are named after the gods:
- Thor are budget smartphones with good battery life.
- Apollo is a line that includes top-level gadgets, frameless and with wonderful screens.
- Mars - smartphones in this line are distinguished by an ideal combination of price, quality and functionality, as well as metallic design.
- Active – a line of protected devices. At the beginning of 2020, it includes only one smartphone.
There are not many models in the Vernee catalog yet, but even among the existing ones you can choose the most impressive ones.
Vernee M8 Pro
- Processor: 8-core Helio P60, 2 GHz
- Screen: 6.2 inches, FHD+ resolution (2240×1080)
- Cameras (main / front): 16+8 megapixels / 13 megapixels
- Memory (RAM / built-in): 6 GB / 64 GB
- Battery capacity: 4100 mAh
Price: from 19165 rubles
The device, introduced at the end of 2020, became the most powerful from the company with an acceptable price for customers. The new product has pleasant technical characteristics and a modern appearance. Performance is represented by an eight-core chip with a breakdown of the cores into four - productive and energy efficient. The 6 GB RAM looks no less impressive, the average storage is 64 GB, this is not enough, but I would like more.
The device has a huge high-resolution FullView display, and the usable screen area occupies 89% of the total space. Front camera - 13 megapixels, built-in scenes to improve pictures. The main module is a dual camera with phase detection autofocus, built-in scenes, artificial intelligence, and HDR support. The manufacturer did not forget about the NFC chip, and the capacious 4100 mAh battery supports fast and wireless charging.
Advantages:
- Powerful chipset
- Large high resolution screen
- Large amount of RAM
- Wireless and fast charging
- High quality camera
- NFC support
Flaws:
- Boring familiar design
- Main memory could be larger

The technical characteristics of the Vernee Active are impressive primarily in the amount of RAM and internal memory. 6 GB of RAM seems excessive today, but there is no doubt that in a few years this value will become standard. With this smartphone, you can prepare for the future now.
About the same can be said about the built-in memory. 128 GB of storage should be enough for literally everything, including installing hundreds of programs, downloading your favorite music and storing many hundreds, if not thousands of photos.
The latter, by the way, will come in handy when traveling: after all, this is what secure gadgets are most often purchased for. Now you can pre-fill your device with games, music and movies without worrying about running out of space to store your footage.
As for the processor, this is our old friend Helio P25. It is built on a 16-nanometer architecture and has 8 Cortex-A53 computing cores with a clock speed of up to 2.5 GHz. It supports work with LPDDR4X RAM, the volume of which can reach 6 GB, as in this case. In general, it’s not the newest, but still quite relevant chip that provides sufficient performance to solve most everyday tasks.
Vernee V2 Pro
- Processor: 8-core Helio P23, 2.3 GHz
- Screen: 5.99 inches, FHD+ resolution (2160×1080)
- Cameras (main / front): 21+5 megapixels / 13+5 megapixels
- Memory (RAM / built-in): 6 GB / 64 GB
- Battery capacity: 6200 mAh
Price: from 15140 rubles
Vernee is known for trying to pack as much as possible into devices at a low cost. The new secure model has a good chipset, a large amount of RAM, an NFC chip and a huge battery. The device supports IP68, which means it can swim at a depth of 1 meter for about 30 minutes. The smartphone is not afraid of dirt, dust and other aggressive environmental influences, including high and low temperatures - from -30 to 60 degrees.
An interesting point is that not only can the phone operate at low temperatures, but its rear casing is made in such a way that ice does not form on it. Fans of winter extreme sports appreciated this constructive solution. In general, in terms of ergonomics, the phone turned out to be extremely successful - it is quite narrow with a large diagonal, the textured surface does not slip in the hand.
What’s unpleasant is that the manufacturer indicated dual cameras on the back and front, but in fact they have one module. The auxiliary matrices are fake and such an obvious deception is puzzling, because Vernee was previously praised for its honesty. In addition, the quality of photo and video shooting is quite mediocre.
Advantages:
- Excellent autonomy
- Ability to work in extreme conditions
- Large memory capacity
- NFC availability
- Good ergonomics
Flaws:
- Fake cameras
- Poor photo and video quality

Vernee Thor Plus
- Processor : 8-core MediaTek MTK6753, 1300 MHz
- Screen : 5 inches, HD resolution (1280×720)
- Cameras (main / front) : 13 MP / 5 MP
- Memory (RAM / built-in) : 3 GB / 16 GB
- Battery capacity : 6200 mAh
Price: from 11143 rubles
Vernee Thor Plus is the best proof that it is possible ; and those companies that say otherwise simply don’t want to try. With a 6200 mAh battery, the device is less than 8 millimeters thick. Thanks to its battery, Thor Plus is capable of continuously playing video in HD resolution for up to 20 hours - with active use it will definitely “last” a couple of days.
Thor Plus supports fast charging. If you believe the reviews, two and a half hours is enough to fill its battery from zero to “to the brim.”
Advantages:
- Excellent autonomy.
- Ergonomics are excellent - the gadget is thin and light (189 grams).
- Metal body.
- The presence of a unique mode for protecting the user’s vision - the mode is called “Eye Protection Mode”; when activated, the screen becomes like a book page.
- The presence of a fingerprint sensor.
Flaws:
- Outdated hardware - the processor is weak by today's standards.
- Mediocre cameras that take very poor pictures in low light conditions.

Vernee MIX2
- Processor : 8-core MediaTek Helio P25, 2500 MHz
- Screen : 6 inches, FullHD+ resolution (2160×1080)
- Cameras (main / front) : 13 MP + 5 MP (dual) / 8 MP
- Memory (RAM / built-in) : 4 GB / 64 GB
- Battery capacity : 4200 mAh
Price: from 11,200 rubles
For a Chinese electronics manufacturer not to have a MIX-style smartphone in its catalog is bad form. The Vernee company also released a gadget without a top edge and obviously did this not “for show” at all - the device turned out to be a success.
The MIX2 screen aspect ratio is 18:9. In this case, the Chinese manufacturer follows the trend launched by Samsung, thanks to which the device’s dimensions are not so impressive and correspond to traditional devices with 5.5-inch screens. It is unknown who produces the displays for MIX2, but the component is clearly not cheap - users in reviews note the excellent contrast of the gadget’s screen and high brightness, which may even seem excessive.
Advantages:
- Affordable price – Vernee MIX2 is a budget smartphone.
- Huge high quality screen with high resolution.
- Premium appearance.
- Good battery life - even with very active use, the device can last at least 8 hours.
Flaws:
- There is no USB Type-C port.
- The smartphone does not support NFC.

Vernee Apollo
- Processor : 10-core MediaTek Helio X25
- Screen : 5.5 inches, resolution 2560×1440
- Cameras (main / front) : 21 MP / 8 MP
- Memory (RAM / built-in) : 4 GB / 64 GB
- Battery capacity : 3180 mAh
Price: from 9500 rubles
Vernee Apollo, released in 2020, turned out to be the company's first flagship and was immediately dubbed a VR smartphone. The company's developers have implemented a truly bold solution - the packaging in which the gadget is supplied can easily be converted into a VR headset. The user only has to install his Apollo inside the device - after that he will be able to view panoramic video with the effect of complete immersion. This is facilitated by a fantastic display with QuadHD resolution and a powerful 10-core processor from MTK.
Advantages:
- With a premium metallic design, the Apollo is visually reminiscent of the best HTC gadgets.
- An interesting set - what other smartphone comes with a VR helmet?
- A camera from Sony capable of recording 4K video.
- Supports fast charging technology.
Flaws:
- Combined slot - you have to choose between a flash drive and a 2nd SIM card.
- The speaker is not loud enough.

Vernee Thor E smartphone with a capacious 5020mAh battery
Not exactly a new product, but a very interesting smartphone in the budget segment with a capacious 5020mAh battery, with its pros and cons. Of course, I expected more from a smartphone, but it’s not that bad either. Specifications Vernee Thor E
Smartphone screen: 5″, IPS matrix, resolution 1280x720, 294 PPi Processor: MediaTek MT6753 1.3 GHz 8 cores Graphics accelerator: ARM Mali-720 MP3 RAM: 3 GB LPDDR3 ROM: 16 GB with support for cards up to 128 GB Number of SIM cards: 2 Fingerprint scanner: present Cameras: front 5MP, rear camera 13MP Housing material: aluminum and plastic Weight: they promise 149 g, we’ll definitely check it Color: gray, black Battery: 5,020 mAh, non-removable, 9V/2A, fast charging OS: Android 7.0 Nougat
Vernee Thor E comes in a completely inconspicuous white box.
Vernee Thor E equipment: the smartphone itself; Charger; USB-microusb cable; tray clip; instructions
Charger 9V/2A. With our original plug, without adapters.
I wasn’t the only one waiting for the smartphone, the waiter and I did it together, it’s more fun
On the back side, they initially stuck a film with the name and signed what is where in this smartphone
The back cover is made of aluminum, and there are two small plastic inserts; it collects fingerprints, but not much. Looks quite stylish.
On the left there is a slot for two NANO SIMs and a memory card, again the tray is combined. Considering that the smartphone has 16 GB of memory, a separate slot for a memory card would not be out of place, especially for killing XIAOMI REDMI 4X. But apparently this is not so easy to do technically while maintaining the same dimensions.
At the bottom there is a microUSB connector and a microphone hole.
Looking at us from above in splendid isolation is the headset connector.
On the right are the power buttons and volume rocker
At the bottom there are three touch buttons without backlight; for some reason, when ordering, I thought that there would be on-screen buttons, like other Vernee models. I think this is a huge plus.
The fingerprint sensor and the main camera with flash are in the usual place, although they are interestingly designed and placed on a separate panel. This is externally different from Xiaomi smartphones.
At the bottom there is the main speaker, quite loud, good for ringtones, low frequencies are not enough. For this price category, this is normal in principle. The situation is a little better with headphones.
Also near the SIM card tray there is a feature of this smartphone, the E-INK button. This is a power saving mode that disables most functions on the smartphone and turns the display into black and white mode.
Here's some information I dug up about this mode:
E-Ink is a technology that is designed to imitate text on paper through the underlying physical process of electrophoresis, so that the device consumes much less energy and is not as detrimental to our vision as, for example, liquid crystal displays. Thus, electronic paper is very similar to a regular printed book and attracts buyers with this property.
It’s really more convenient to read, your eyes don’t get tired. Previously, this is precisely why I tried not to read too much, my eyes got tired. But using this mode specifically to save energy is somehow annoying; using applications is not very convenient. Calls only.
On the front side at the top there is a front camera, an event indicator, a proximity sensor and a speaker.
Ergonomics Vernee
The smartphone fits very comfortably in the hand due to its compact size, since for many it is the most optimal size. Thor E is rectangular in shape with sharp edges.
The length is approximately 143 mm by 70 mm and 8.5 mm with a real weight of 163 g. Yes, we were also slightly deceived here, by 14 whole grams, they didn’t weigh it, but they outweighed it . Although the smartphone doesn’t feel heavy in the hand, so as not to find fault, it might not notice the difference in weight.
Comparison with Xiaomi Redmi 4X, which Vernee promises to kill
Display Vernee Thor E
The Vernee Thor screen is typical for inexpensive smartphones with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and 294 ppi. The screen has good uniform illumination, fairly natural color reproduction, without any blue or yellow tint. And whether this is a plus or not is difficult to judge, the glass is not 2.5D, as everyone has become accustomed to recently. Touch for 5 touches. In the sun the display is readable.
The software part of the Vernee Thor E smartphone
The smartphone already has Android 7.0 with VOS 1.0 installed out of the box, this is a proprietary shell from Vernee. Although, as for me, this is just pure Android, without all sorts of rubbish, which is quite good, for those who need to install everything themselves, this is enough for many buyers. After the first turn on, I caught as many as three updates, updated for everything. The last one was on June 15th. This means the developers are working on fixing bugs in their creation. I hope their enthusiasm will not fade in the future.
Here are the main screenshots of the system interface
The smartphone has 16 GB of memory, of which only 10 are available to us, which by modern standards is simply disgraceful. Especially in light of the fact that we are still faced with the choice of expanding the memory or using two SIM cards.
An interesting solution is gesture control, or rather the ability to turn on the flashlight with the V gesture, and turn on the camera with the O gesture. By gesture we mean moving your finger across the screen.
The fingerprint scanner, as promised by the manufacturer, is quite fast, recognition is almost instantaneous, without errors. This part was quite satisfying. True, there is no way to assign a fingerprint to an action other than unlocking.
Installing TWRP and SuperSU on Vernee Thor E
Installing TWRP, as well as flashing it, is not so difficult if you have certain knowledge, many may not need it, but I’m already used to using TWRP, it’s very convenient to make a copy, flash it, reset it to factory settings.
1) You can download everything you need separately on 4pda, or I uploaded everything in one archive to Yandex disk. There is a flasher and TWRP and drivers. https://yadi.sk/d/Pn9cuhqQ3Kor8z 2) Unpack and install drivers if not installed. Not to be confused with ADB drivers. Place the SuperSU archive on a flash drive or internal memory of your smartphone for further installation
3) Open Flash Tools and add scatter from the recovery folder. 4) Select Download mode. 5) Click the Download button. 6) Connect the switched off smartphone 7) Wait for the check mark for the end of the process. 8) Disconnect USB. We don't turn on the phone. Press Volume Up + Power until a selection appears. Volume Up select recovery and press Volume Down. Through the Install Zip menu, select ExtraDS/SD Card and install SuperSU.
The firmware itself is installed in the same way, you just need to select the scatter file from the firmware folder, uncheck preloader (this is a bootloader, it is not recommended to flash it unless necessary), and then points 4,5,6,7
You do everything at your own risk and I do not bear responsibility. If you’re not sure, don’t even try, lest you end up with a brick instead of a smartphone.
Frequencies supported by Vernee Thor E
Unlike other famous manufacturers, there is Band 20, a frequency that is used in Russia
I didn’t find the code for how to get into the engineering menu, but there is a sure way - download Mobileuncle MTK Tools. For the program to fully function, root user rights are required. Only for MTK processors!!! Or go to the play store and type the engineering menu in a search engine, and you will see many applications that will give access to it, where root rights are not required.
Hardware Vernee Thor E
Our processor is an 8-core MTK 6753 1,300 MHz, as far as I know the same was installed in the previous model, for some reason this particular part was not upgraded. With memory 3Gb RAM and 16 Gb ROM, but here at least I would like to see 32Gb, but all the damn cost reduction forces us to take these measures. The first Thor with similar characteristics simply tore apart its competitors in 2020, now it is unlikely to succeed, the only hope is for a capacious 5020mAh battery, which will have to carry everything on itself.
The situation with sensors is as follows: accelerometer, light and proximity sensor, magnetic sensor, orientation sensor
For surfing the Internet, communicating on social media. networks, listening to music and watching videos is enough for the eyes. But gamers should not expect miracles, but for not very demanding games it will be more than enough.
In AnTuTu, the smartphone scored 38,600, which is of course not much by modern standards.
AIDA 64
CPU-Z
PC Mark and 3D Mark
Geekbench 4
Epic Citadel
An hour of playing Asphalt 8, the flight is normal. You can actually feel the back cover heating up
Autonomy of Vernee Thor E
Perhaps this is the most important feature of the hero of our review, and the manufacturer emphasized it - as much as 5,020 mAh. But this no longer causes a wi effect, as the ThL 5000 smartphone managed to do in its time, although this was in 2014. Nowadays a smartphone with such a battery is quite expected. Manufacturers assure that the battery can ensure full operation of the smartphone for 3-4 days. On the first firmware there were problems with the smartphone falling asleep, updates seem to have fixed this.
Well, you should not forget about the E-link function, for which there is even a whole button, in addition to switching the screen to black and white mode with a decrease in brightness, all communications are turned off, and the processor operates in minimum mode, and applications can be moved to the desktop for work, which you will need. I haven’t yet figured out how convenient this is, but in any case, this function won’t be superfluous.
The smartphone can really live quietly for two days in active mode, it didn’t deny itself anything. I fully charged to one hundred percent in 2.5 hours, which is not much for such a battery capacity.
The manufacturer promised fast charging 9V/2A, but in reality I got 9V/1.50A
The PC Mark test showed the following results:
Cameras Vernee Thor E
There are two cameras in the smartphone, the main one is 8MP and the front one is 2MP, but as always, interpolation is up to 13 and 5. I can’t understand why this should be done at all, if there are 8, then let it remain so. It seems to me that you shouldn’t expect miracles from cameras in a device for this price, especially night photos, but we’ll check it in daylight
Interface and basic settings of the stock camera
Example photos. Unfortunately, the sunny days are gone. Summer is where it comes from
The camera is clearly worse than the Xiaomi Redmi 4X, and it's not a matter of pixels. Color rendering, focusing, and white balance are poor here. Above are the best photos that we managed to select for review. I would not recommend a smartphone for a photography enthusiast.
Communication quality and wireless interfaces
I and my interlocutors had no complaints about the quality of communication; they were clearly audible. In the first firmware, people had complaints about the microphone, but the manufacturer quickly corrected his problem.
There were no problems finding satellites, and with the data transmission turned off, I found them quite quickly. Although I thought there might be problems with navigation on this processor.
Vernee Thor E still left more positive emotions than disappointments. Good quality materials, not easily soiled body. The amount of RAM is enough for all daily tasks of a simple user. Overall, it turned out to be a good budget phone, and for me personally, the smartphone has no critical shortcomings. Well, the optimal screen size for many. And it is worth special mentioning the accurate and responsive fingerprint scanner.
For an undemanding user who wants a smartphone with good battery life, this is an excellent option.
Each may have its own pros and cons, but I have identified the following for myself.
Pros of Vernee Thor: build quality, good price, pure Android 7.0, 3 GB RAM. 5020mAh battery with fingerprint scanner
Cons of Vernee Thor: both cameras,
Well, if you still need the perfect smartphone, then the cost will be at least three times more expensive, and there will still be disadvantages waiting for you, you just need to decide what you need to get from a smartphone, and choose based on your requirements.

Preface and brief technical specifications of the Vernee Active smartphone
As you know, not all mobile phones live a long and happy life, and die in old age from complete physical and moral wear and tear. Many of them meet premature death as a result of falling or drowning; causing heavy moral and material damage to their owners.
Some manufacturers are trying to help users save nerves and money by producing rugged smartphones that are resistant to falls and drowning. But more often than not, the devices turn out to be bulky and heavy - real “armored cars”! And from an aesthetic point of view, not everyone will be satisfied with such an over-brutal “brick”.
This is where the new Vernee Active smartphone can help consumers. It is resistant to both falls and water; but at the same time it looks elegant and very similar to an ordinary modern phone:
(image from the manufacturer's official website)
It is this curious product “for all occasions” that we will focus on in this review.
Main technical characteristics of the Vernee Active phone

A note to this table: it indicates the actual physical resolution of the cameras (13 MP and 5 MP), although the manufacturer claims 16 MP and 8 MP. But this is a resolution with interpolation, and does not count towards the “count”!
The average price on Chinese sites as of the date of review is about 18,000 rubles. Alas, the crisis jump in the dollar also affected Chinese prices, which are denominated in dollars “by default.” At the time of the review, no offers were found in Russian retail, but their appearance in the future is not excluded: the Vernee company is definitely paying attention to the Russian market.
The smartphone is available only in black.
Packaging and equipment
The packaging of our “patient” is light and durable, but very simple. Only the name of the manufacturer and model, nothing more:
The packaging is in the style of “simple and tasteful”: it’s suitable for yourself and it’s not a shame to give as a gift, although it’s not cheap.
The equipment is ordinary - in the “necessary and sufficient” style.
The charger supports “fast charging” and can produce voltages of 5/7/9 Volts with a current of up to 2 A, and a voltage of 12 Volts with a current of up to 1.5 A:
The included cable is a standard one with a USB Type-C plug, which can be inserted in any direction:
We won’t look at the rest of the “small things” in the kit (“a paperclip” for opening the tray and any “waste paper”) - they are too banal!
As a result, the kit includes: - a smartphone; — charger with support for “fast charging”; — USB Type-C cable; — protective film on the screen; — a tool for removing the SIM/memory card tray; - "waste paper".
This concludes our review of the configuration - our next item will be longer than usual.
Appearance, design and software of the Vernee Active smartphone
The following photo shows the smartphone in the turned on state:
The top part of the Vernee Active contains a front camera with flash, light and proximity sensors - i.e. the usual set of devices, except for the indicator LED. He, unfortunately, has been forgotten.
Below the screen are the traditional three Android touch buttons. The central one is indicated by a square, and the side ones are simply bold light dots. The manufacturer decided not to designate them in more detail, since their functional purpose can be changed among themselves (via “Settings”, of course).
As you can see in the photo, a smartphone cannot be called frameless. The frames, although small, are present.
There is also a rim along the edges of the front panel, but only on the top and bottom sides. Thanks to this side, when the smartphone falls face down on a flat surface, the sides will collide with it, not the screen. The likelihood of saving the screen is thus high; but it will depend, of course, on the height of the fall.
Let's take a look at the back of the smartphone:
It's not easy here.
Let's start with the fact that the top and bottom edges of the smartphone, including the corners, are made of thick rubber - of course, in order to increase impact resistance.
The side edges (right and left) are slightly recessed into the body and reinforced with metal plates - this strengthens the “skeleton” of the smartphone.
On the side edge, visible in this photo, there is a power saving button and a tray cover for SIM cards and memory cards. The energy saving button is not particularly intelligent: it only allows you to call up a list of active modules and disable those that are not needed at the moment.
On the bottom edge there is a calling speaker (in the form of two elongated slits), a microphone hole and a cover for the USB Type-C connector.
By the way, the back panel is made of heavy-duty plastic - Kevlar (according to the manufacturer's website). Kevlar, by the way, is used in body armor. So it will be extremely difficult to break the back panel. But you still don’t need to drop it - you can scratch the rear camera window.
Now let's look from the opposite angle:
On the side there is a volume rocker familiar from childhood and an “ON/OFF” button.
The top edge (which the phone is facing towards us in the photo) is very interesting and unusual.
On it (on the left in the photo) you can see the audio connector plug (standard 3.5 mm jack), everything is clear with it. But then there are two holes. One of them is probably a noise canceling microphone. And what the second one does is unknown.
Even further to the right is a rectangular depression in which there is nothing. Why it is needed is also unknown. Perhaps to intrigue the consumer.
From this angle, the rear camera, flash and fingerprint scanner are clearly visible on the back panel.
Now let's study the sealing of our smartphone.
Some parts are sealed with flexible moisture-proof membranes - these are the openings of microphones and speakers. And the connectors are protected using regular plugs. Let's study this issue in more detail.
This is how the USB Type-C connector on the bottom edge is protected:
The plug is attached to the body using a flexible plastic “leg”, making it impossible to lose. The same applies to all the other plugs in the following photos.
Let's look at the protection of the 3.5 mm audio jack:
The protection for the audio jack is exactly the same as for the USB Type-C connector: a “plug” on the leg. On the left in the photo you can see the slightly open compartment for SIM cards with the tray pulled out. This part will be seen better in the top view:
This one differs from previous plugs in its design and also in the fact that its “sole” is made of red rubber.
Now let’s pull out the tray completely and admire it:
The tray was photographed with a SIM card and a micro-SD memory card installed there. The right seat (where the memory card is visible in the photo) is combined - you can install either
SIM card
or
memory card; but it’s impossible to do everything together. However, the smartphone has a lot of memory (128 GB!), and expanding it with a memory card is unlikely to be required. So feel free to insert two SIM cards!
And finally, it’s time to check the practical results of the applied moisture protection technologies.
To test, the smartphone was immersed in a stream in a nearby park for 15 minutes (February, air temperature - minus 8 degrees, water temperature - about plus 1 degree):
On the right side of the photo you can see the snow and ice lining the creek.
Despite the extreme test conditions, the smartphone passed them successfully. The security of the Vernee Active smartphone has been confirmed.
We continue our review. Now let's move on from the Vernee Active
to its
software
. It is presented in the following pair of screenshots:
There are not many pre-installed applications; on the smartphone there is, one might say, a “naked” Android, and thank God!
The firmware updates are successfully delivered and installed:
In conclusion of this chapter, the Smartpuls.ru portal reminds that all the mechanical protection of a smartphone is not made for “pampering” and demonstrating its capabilities to colleagues “just like that,” but for business; and abuse can lead to damage to a really good device.
Next, we send our “patient” to an ophthalmologist. Let him check the display!
Display
The smartphone display has a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels (Full HD) in a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio.
Screen size - 5.5 inches; pixel density - 401 per inch (very high). The display is made using OGS (One Glass Solution) technology without an air gap between the screen itself and the pressure-sensitive surface, which reduces glare from external light sources. Let me remind readers, just in case, that the screen and the pressure-sensitive surface (touchscreen) are two different devices that are combined mechanically.
The screen as such is made using IPS technology, which, if technically competent, provides very positive characteristics (color rendition, viewing angles, etc.).
Let's see how good he is at work.
The uniformity of brightness between white and black screens is excellent, without any “spotting”.
When the smartphone deviates from the perpendicular viewing angle, the brightness drops quite noticeably. But there is also some “plus” in this: this means that the light energy is directed towards the user, and is not wasted in the surrounding space. In this case, this is especially useful, because in the following table we will see that our “patient” does not have an excessive supply of brightness.
The measurement results of technical parameters are shown in the following table (display settings are “default”):
Maximum white brightness, cd/m2 | 350 |
Minimum white brightness, cd/m2 | 11 |
Contrast (at 50% brightness) | 1340 |
Color temperature (50% brightness) | 8500K |
The brightness adjustment range is sufficient to work both in bright external light and in complete darkness. But this “merit” lies in the sharp directional pattern of the light emission of the screen, and not in its brightness, which cannot be called very high.
Accordingly, the viewing angles of the screen are sacrificed to some extent. They are not too large; when the screen is rotated more than 30 degrees, the image “fades” greatly. This cannot be considered a defect; it is rather a feature of the device.
The color temperature (8500K) was higher than the standard (6500K), which gives the image a slight “cool” tint. If desired, you can correct it using the built-in MiraVision screen adjustment utility.
Contrast is “top class” (>1000).
The color gamut (triangle with white borders) almost completely coincides with the sRGB standard, which will provide high color fidelity:
It is unknown whether the screen has an oleophobic coating, since a factory protective film was stuck on it. But my conscience did not allow me to commit such blasphemy as tearing off the still fresh protective film. The protective film, by the way, was very ordinary; fingerprints stuck to it that way.
The screen recognizes 5 simultaneous touches:
Overall, despite some minor shortcomings, the screen rating is very good.
Next, we send the patient to exercise machines and test his strength and speed!
Vernee Active smartphone platform and performance
The Vernee Active smartphone uses a 64-bit processor (SoC) MediaTek Helio P25 (MT6757) in its fastest form: 8 cores, of which 4 cores operate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz and another 4 at a frequency of 1.7 GHz.
Today this is the configuration of a very strong “middle peasant”, which is capable of coping with any current purpose, including demanding 3D games.
The amount of RAM our patient has is 6 GB, this is an excellent level, even, perhaps, “overkill” - it is unlikely that so much will be required in typical scenarios for using a smartphone.
And the permanent memory is 128 GB, which is a lot, at the level of a “flagship flagship”.
Let's take a look at the device platform from the point of view of the Device Info HW utility:
In the last screen, green dots indicate sensors detected by the utility, and red dots indicate missing ones.
Now let's start testing; Let's start with AnTuTu (v6):
Once again AnTuTu, but in the latest, 7th version:
In total, the antutu test result for the Vernee Active smartphone was 81166 parrot points in the latest version of Antutu (v7). This is the normal result of a “very strong middle peasant.”
With repeated runs, the test results fluctuated slightly (that is, there was almost no throttling as a result of self-heating), performance dropped only to 78,000 points, and even then only in the worst case.
Let's run a little more in other "running" tests.
3DMark in the “Ice Storm Extreme” version:
In the Ice Storm Extreme benchmark from the 3DMark package, the result was very good; The device was included in the “best half” of all devices according to this test.
Bonsai 3D test:
Completes the series of Geekbench tests:
And now - a frame from the game “Asphalt-8. Take off”, the flight is normal!:
Let's move on to flash memory
.
On a “freshly unpacked” smartphone, 110.1 GB of the total volume of 128 GB is available to the user (see Device Info HW screenshots above), the rest is occupied by the operating system and reserve. In addition, you can insert a micro-SD memory card into the smartphone, and you can also connect an external flash drive via a USB-OTG adapter cable. Here's what it all looks like in the Storage Settings section of your phone:
In summary, the diagnosis based on memory capacity is extremely positive: you have more than enough memory, and you can even increase it. There is only one caveat: to connect external flash drives, you will have to purchase a USB-OTG adapter cable for the USB Type-C port.
Multimedia (sound and video)
The smartphone has a standard sound design: a monaural ringing speaker and a headphone output in the form of a standard 3.5 mm jack. Innovations from the latest trends in the spirit of smartphones without a standard headphone output, thank God, have not been applied.
Bass in the sound of the built-in speaker, as usual, is weakly represented, high and mid frequencies are normal. Volume level is good. Even quiet tracks in films can be “boosted” by adjusting the volume to a comfortable level.
In headphones (if they are of medium or high level) you can hear better sound. There are no problems with the frequency range, noise does not get through. And the volume, similar to the built-in speaker, has a large margin of adjustment.
Playing video with the built-in player runs into a traditional problem: AC3 encoded audio does not play. This problem was “cured” in the usual way - by installing a third-party player (for example, VLC player, 321 player, etc.). Just remember, after installing the external player, give it all the permissions it asks for in the application settings.
After installing one of the listed external players, all problems with the video were resolved: everything was successfully played back, up to the 4K format (3840*2160) @30 fps inclusive.
We assess the level of multimedia in our “patient” as good.
Communication and navigation
The smartphone has a modern 4G connection. The OOKLA Speedtest application showed the following average speed value:
These numbers, of course, simply confirm that the 4G Internet channel is operating at an adequate level. Actual speeds in different areas and between different operators can vary greatly. Yes, and not everywhere there is already a 4G connection, but this is not the fault of the smartphone.
Other types of wireless communication - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth - worked without problems, as is usually the case.
NFC also worked, although this type of communication is rare in Chinese phones - it is not popular in the Middle Kingdom. We were able to successfully read the status of a Troika ticket for Moscow transport:
It would seem that everything is working great, but the world is not simple! The Google Pay contactless payment system refused to recognize this smartphone as suitable for contactless payments via NFC:
Navigation system
smartphone with a “cold” start took a little more than a minute (very good).
The launch of the AndroidTS navigation testing application showed that the smartphone supports two navigation systems - imperialist GPS and domestic GLONASS:
A trial recording of the track showed that navigation, even in the “difficult” conditions of a high forest, provides sufficient accuracy:
The out-and-back tracks shown in this screenshot must follow the same path and coincide with each other (as well as with the path on the map). There are discrepancies, but they are within acceptable limits; They are expressed mainly in the form of small frequent fractures.
We rate the navigation as good (not “excellent”).
Next, our nutritionist will check the survivability of our “patient” in conditions of energy starvation.
Battery
The battery capacity of the smartphone is as much as 4200 mAh, which significantly exceeds the “usual” value today of 3000-3500 mAh. He simply must show, if not outstanding, then at least simply good autonomy.
Let's start with the results in PCMark 8:
This is the battery life rating according to PCMark 8.
And this is an assessment of the performance of Vernee Active in various tasks according to PCMark 8.
When watching movies, the operating time on a single charge was about 11 hours. These results are above the usual average, although they are not record-breaking.
Battery discharge and charge graph (in the PCMark test - in the following screenshot:
The charging time was slightly less than 2.5 hours, which confirms the functionality of the “fast charging” mode promised by the manufacturer; although it cannot be said that “fast charging” turned out to be very effective. Perhaps this is due to the long, gentle “tail” at the end of the graph, when the battery took a long time to gain the last 3% charge.
We estimate the autonomy of the device to be at a good level.
Cameras
The Device Info HW test utility determined the type of Vernee Active cameras as follows:
The main (rear) camera is Sony IMX258, it has 13 megapixels (4160*3120 - very good), F/2 (also not bad).
The front type is GalaxyCore GC5025, it is obviously weaker: only 5 megapixels.
There is a special feature in the camera settings - for pictures you can select any photo resolution, except the one that matches the camera’s own resolution! In other words, the images will always be interpolated - either in
up or down. It is not good. For example, this is what the list of settings for the main camera looks like:
Another feature is the ability to shoot in RAW (raw) format. We’ll definitely find out what happens in this case!
We'll start testing with photos taken with the main camera. The pictures will be presented with interpolation to “plus” - 16 megapixels.
When viewing at 100% scale, you need to pay attention to the good image clarity, which is rarely characteristic of Chinese phone cameras. And at the same time, pay attention to the noticeability of noise - a camera with a large number of pixels, but their small size makes itself felt.
There is also a noticeable loss of sharpness in the corners of the photos. But the area of these areas is small, and this effect can be neglected.
When clicked, the photos will be displayed in a new window in full size, the file size is up to 10 MB (!).
Part 1. Shooting outdoors.
Now - the same frame in RAW format, converted to JPG:
As you can see here, the image in RAW format is “softer”, since it has not yet been processed in “sharping” (emphasizing contours) and in noise reduction. At the same time, the RAW frame also has a strong unevenness of brightness and color tone in the center of the frame compared to the edges, which is caused by the features of ultra-small-sized lenses of mobile cameras. In the first frame (which is processed) there are almost no these problems. If anyone is interested, the “original” in RAW can be downloaded here (DNG file, 25 Mb).
Let's look at the photos below:
Part 2. Urban photography.
Part 3. Portrait photography
Part 4. Photography in difficult lighting conditions.
Part 5. Photography with flash.
Part 6. Taking photos with the Open Camera application.
As mentioned earlier, in the standard application there is no way to set the resolution exactly equal to the physical resolution of the camera. But third-party applications, such as Open Camera, allow this. True, most third-party applications do not have the ability to shoot in RAW, but you can do without it.
Part 7. Taking photographs with the front camera.
Video shooting test
(main camera). Electric train on the Moscow Central Circle (Moscow):
The video was shot in Full HD format (1920×1080), stream 16.9 Mbit/s, 29.5 frames per second (these are normal parameters for Full HD format). The video is of good quality. You can evaluate using a freeze frame:
With this, we consider the consultation of doctors complete and move on to the results.
Final diagnosis of the Vernee Active rugged smartphone
This concludes our review of the unusual Vernee Active smartphone - protected according to the IP68 standard, but with a glamorous appearance, a device that looks quite ordinary.
Of course, like any Chinese smartphone, it is not without its drawbacks. But you have to look for them literally bit by bit; none of them are so bright that they simply “catch your eye.”
Let's note them anyway.
These include, first of all, the inability to use for contactless payments. The manufacturer first went in the right direction - it introduced the NFC near-field communication necessary for this; but did not finish the job, as a result of which Google Pay refused to work.
Of the little things, it should be noted that there is no indicator LED. To some extent, the user can compensate for this by installing third-party applications that use the rear camera flash to indicate events.
I would also like to add a little brightness to the display and slightly reduce the slight “shaking” of the navigation tracks.
And now you can praise.
The mind-blowing amount of memory is a very serious plus. Memory will always be useful and will never be lost.
Processor and graphics performance - although not at the flagship level, is at a very decent level. It is unlikely that the user will experience any “brakes” anywhere.
His photographs are of a very good level; There are no problems with clarity, which are common in Chinese devices. Well, only at times in the fresh air the colors are slightly oversaturated.
His autonomy is also fine.
And finally, moisture protection and shock resistance are factors that will help the user save money on repairing or replacing the device in the future (because there are different cases...). True, this security did not completely leave its mark on the mass of the device: after all, the weight of almost 200 grams will not please all users, and especially beautiful ladies.
Just in case, I remind readers how to read technology reviews.

Vernee Apollo X
- Processor : 10-core MediaTek Helio X20, 2300 MHz
- Screen : 5.5 inches, FullHD resolution
- Cameras (main / front) : 13 MP / 5 MP
- Memory (RAM / built-in) : 4 GB / 64 GB
- Battery capacity : 3500 mAh
Price: from 17,491 rubles
The Helio X20 processor, which is equipped with the Apollo X model, was by far the most powerful - but it had to be surpassed by the Snapdragon 835 and Helio X25. SoC X20 from MediaTek has a Tri-Cluster structure - that is, 3 sets of cores (of which there are 10 in total), operating at different frequencies. This structure is the key to the energy efficiency of the gadget - even with a rather modest battery capacity and wide functionality, the device can last at least a day on one charge.
Advantages:
- Flagship-level 10-core processor from MTK.
- Vernee VOS shell, which contains features that allow the user to easily and quickly get used to the phone.
- Availability of 3.5-Jack connector.
- Ultra-fast fingerprint sensor (response time - 0.1 seconds).
- Fast charging support.
- Durable housing made of aluminum.
- Sharp IGZO display, boasting excellent contrast ratio (1000:1).
Flaws:
- The design is quite boring and has no pretensions to originality.
- Combined SIM slot.
- The front camera is modest in terms of resolution.

i-SHOPPERS.net - product reviews and reviews of online stores
Today I have in my hands a fresh “armored car” from the Vernee company - the model is called Active and the protection level is IP68. The smartphone does not belong to the category of very cheap, so it simply must have solid characteristics and, more importantly, serious protection. And if I will tell you about the characteristics and functionality right here and now, then we will deal with protection a little later - a separate crash test of Vernee Active will be aired on the channel. And today we’ll just get acquainted with the new product.
CONTENTS OF DELIVERY
The equipment is very modest: - a charger with support for fast charging, - a USB-C cable, - a paper clip for the tray, - a short manual in Russian.
There was a protective film stuck under the shipping film, but I removed it before testing.
DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS
Speaking about the design and ergonomics of the Vernee Active, I would like to note that the manufacturer tried to make a secure smartphone while maintaining its sane, let’s say, civilian appearance. Yes, of course, he is far from a baby. But at the same time, I cannot call it a brick. At the same time, brutality is still present in his appearance.
The body materials are a combination of metal, plastic, rubberized plastic and Kevlar. The right and left ends, as well as the power and volume buttons, are made of metal. On the left side, under a flap, there is a combined metal tray for SIM cards and memory cards. Next to the tray there is a separate button for calling up the quick access menu.
The upper and lower ends are protected by soft rubberized plastic. An audio jack is hidden on top under a plug, and next to it we see a couple of holes. One of them is most likely intended for a noise-canceling microphone. The second is most likely a technological hole.
At the bottom there is a speaker perforation, a conversational microphone and another plug, under which there is a USB-C port. All plugs sit firmly in the niches, do not fall out and inspire confidence.
The back panel is made of Kevlar, which is framed in a frame made of ordinary plastic. The surface of the panel has a texture that gives the smartphone an interesting look. The main camera does not protrude beyond the body and in this case this is important, although I would have preferred to see the lens slightly recessed into the body for better protection.
2.5D Gorilla glass with oleophobic coating and it is protected by protruding sides on the bottom and top ends. But there is no protection on the side ends, and this design solution worries me. However, we will draw all conclusions on the design after appropriate tests for rock resistance.
LED indication of events is not provided. The buttons under the screen are classic, not backlit. By the way, they can be swapped. You can also turn them off altogether and display on-screen buttons - there are also fans of this control style.
The dimensions of the Vernee Active are: 156 mm x 79 mm, thickness 11 mm, but its edges are beveled, so the smart doesn’t feel too thick. Weight 196 g. And in the photo below you can see how this brutal looks next to other smartphones.
DISPLAY
The display, as you guessed, is 5.5 inches diagonal, FullHD resolution, IPS matrix manufactured by JDI. The screen is excellent in terms of color reproduction, viewing angles, and responsiveness. Multi-touch for 5 touches. In addition, the display can be customized via the MiraVision function. There is also a night mode. And the only thing I can complain about here is the brightness range. Yes, the information will be readable in the sun, but in a protected smartphone that is often used outdoors, I would like to see a larger brightness reserve. And the lower threshold is not large; in the dark, minimal illumination can hardly be called comfortable.
HARDWARE
Processor - Helio P25: 8 cores, 16 nm process technology and Mali-T880 graphics. The second name of the processor is MT6757CD, which means that the maximum core frequency is 2.4 GHz. Yes, many people don’t like Mediatek, but I can’t say anything bad about this chipset, I’ve already encountered it several times and overall I liked it. It will easily satisfy the needs of the vast majority of users.
The memory reserves here are simply cosmic: 6 GB of RAM is enough even in excess. The storage is also impressive - 128 GB, of which 110 GB is free. Those who like to download TV series, movies, games, gigabytes of music into memory, and use smart phones on trips, hikes, and business trips to watch multimedia will certainly be satisfied with this amount of memory. Such smartphones are not often used for games, but if you need to pass the time, Vernee Active can handle gaming tasks. Tanks (WOT BLITZ), of course, will have to be run on medium-low graphics settings - the Mali T880 does not handle full-fledged average graphics.
SOFTWARE PART
The software shell is called VOS. But in fact, we have almost pure Android 7.0. The manufacturer only added a quick access menu and an “Intelligent Assistant” section with several options. But in essence, this is Android in its original form and with the appropriate interface. The Russification of the system is fine, English is very rare, literally in a couple of options. I haven't received any updates yet. In general, the system works well: without lags, crashes or misunderstandings.
OTHER FUNCTIONALITY
But with the NFC module, not everything is smooth. Yes, there is NFC here, the module itself is absolutely working, but you won’t be able to pay for purchases via Android Pay, at least at the moment the Google application refuses to work fully - when you try to add a card, the program complains about security problems. There may be a lack of certification, or the bootloader may not be locked by default. And similar problems with Android Pay are observed on many smartphones; there is even a separate topic on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum listing all sorts of problems. But you can pay for goods via NFC not only through Google Pay, but also through alternative applications of other payment systems - these are QiWi, Tinkoff, Yandex-Money, in Ukraine Privat24, etc. and judging by the reviews of the owners, such programs work on this smartphone without problems.
Everything is fine with navigation, there is GLONASS support. You definitely won’t get lost in a dense forest with this smartphone. The set of built-in sensors is quite decent, there is a gyroscope. FM radio in place. OTG supported. And WiFi is dual-band.
There are problems with the quality of communication, namely with the microphone and speaker in secure smartphones due to design features. But the Vernee Active showed itself to be excellent as a dialer - audibility is excellent.
Any mobile Internet here will work with a bang, because the range of supported frequencies is simply huge - this applies to both 3G and 4G networks.
But I wanted to see, that is, hear, a better quality multimedia speaker for that kind of money. It works perfectly as a speaker for ringtones - there is sufficient volume reserve. But the sound quality is still budget, high frequencies rule. There were no problems connecting headphones - the audio jack is standard, our hero sounds good through headphones.
The fingerprint scanner is very fast, just like in the Vernee Thor E model. There is also a facial recognition function and it works.
CAMERAS
The main camera received a 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensor, plus software interpolation up to 16 MP and F/2.0 optics. The camera interface is not ordinary, but it is simple. By the way, in the shooting settings you can activate saving pictures in RAW format.
As for me, the camera quality corresponds to the price of budget smartphones. This is the level of shooting smartphones in the region of $150. So don’t count on any special photo opportunities here. An ordinary budget camera that can be used outdoors during the day. Maximum video quality 1080p, frequency 30 fps. The sound seems to be recorded quite well, but when you listen to it with headphones, the sound only goes to one ear.
5 MP front camera, GC5025 sensor, F/2.8 optics. The main purpose of the front camera is video communication, and if it’s a selfie, then in good light, otherwise the result is unlikely to suit you.

AUTONOMY
Battery 4200 mAh. The capacity, of course, is not record-breaking, but this is the battery that provides sufficient autonomy, which will last for 1-2 days, depending on the operating scenario. A test for watching HD video via Wifi at average screen brightness showed a discharge of 41% in 4 hours (consumption of 10% per hour). Overnight with an active SIM, 3% of the charge was consumed - a quite adequate figure.
Fast charging means you won't have to sit at a power outlet. In 30 minutes, the smartphone is charged by 30%, in 1 hour - by 58%, and the battery is fully charged in 1 hour 40 minutes.
VERDICT
Overall, as a smartphone, the Vernee Active is good. Yes, this is a large device, far from small, but at the same time I did not have the feeling of owning a monstrous brick. I have listed all its characteristics and capabilities. Well, the price... yes, the price does not encourage you to drop everything and run headlong to place an order. But people who are consciously looking for a secure and at the same time quite advanced and functional smart device, it seems to me, may well pay attention to it.
