Usually this category of people includes in the lists of “the best hardware in the world” those components that they have just purchased. The next stage of this “disease” is fanatical devotion to products of a certain brand. For example, purchasing video cards from only one manufacturer.

A reasonable person understands that any product has pros and cons; our world is structured in such a way that it does not offer us a simple choice. And every experienced PC user should be able to suppress attempts to slip into a situation where “every sandpiper praises its own swamp.”

This will not end well - fans always pay more than necessary. And it doesn’t matter what – money, your time or nerves.

Today I will try to impartially tell you about the main disadvantages of AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and Ryzen 5 2600 . Now these are the most popular and best-selling processors on our component market.

Even AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Ryzen 5 2600 from the throne .

It will be very difficult to talk about the disadvantages of these processors, because I am very pleased with my AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF .

AMD Ryzen 3 Processors

You can get acquainted with the features of the AMD Ryzen AMD Ryzen 7 1800X , AMD Ryzen 5 1600X and AMD Ryzen 5 1400.

, AMD Ryzen 3 processors are similar to quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 . The main difference is the deprivation of additional threads due to the blocking of SMT technology.

This approach made it possible to separate two lines of processors, which accordingly affected the cost of AMD Ryzen 3 . At the same time, the main charm of the processors was not lost - the unlocked multiplier. And here, as we were convinced before, there is no point in overpaying for the older model in the line - overclocking potential in most cases depends on the quality of the crystal, not the processor model.

AMD Ryzen 3 processors are only capable of working with AM4 socket motherboards.

The main chipset for the processors in question will be B350 . Overpaying for the X370 is pointless, since bundles of several video cards for these processors will be an unbearable burden, and the B350 has more than enough USB and SATA connectors. Purchasing motherboards based on the AMD A320 chipset deprives the processors of the ability to overclock by multiplier, which, with a slight difference in price from the B350, makes the purchase a dubious savings.

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X processors come in OEM and BOX versions. The main difference between the boxed version is the extended warranty to 3 years and the inclusion of a Wraith Stealth . Our editors received the processors in OEM version.

The use of such packaging protects processors from damage, and the included sticker is worthy of taking a place on the front panel of the computer case to remember what is in the heart.

Separately, the Wraith Stealth , which was used for testing processors.

The role of the test motherboard was always played by Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 with the latest BIOS version installed - 3.00. It already includes the AGESA 1.0.0.6 fixes and fixes many of the shortcomings that we encountered in the first stages of testing.

Wraith Stealth cooler is easy to install, has good efficiency, and also blows air over the motherboard's power circuits.

You can’t expect incredible overclocking with it, but it, like older cooler models, does its job perfectly.

The most powerful AMD processors of the 1000th and 2000th series

Below we will present three of the best processors in terms of power, ideal for working with videos, graphic editors or games.

    AMD Ryzen 3 1200

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor has the following operating mode: when idle, the processor frequency drops to 1550 MHz, the voltage is in the range of 0.65-0.7 V. When performing single-threaded operations, the processor accelerates to 3450 MHz at a voltage of 0.950-1.0 V; if all cores are used, then the frequency drops to 3100 MHz.

To measure the temperature and processor consumption, the LinX 0.7.0 program with integrated libraries for AMD Ryzen processors was used. Testing was carried out in a room with a temperature of 25 ° C, an open stand was used. Team Group T-Force Dark Rog Red RAM (dual-rank, Samsung S-Die chips) operated at a frequency of 2133 MHz with timings of 15-15-15-36 CR2.

During 20 minutes of testing, the maximum processor temperature reached only 37°C, while the average consumption did not reach 30 W. At the same time, the processor performed calculations with a performance of 89-90 GFlops. Excellent result! The low operating voltage of only 1.0 V played an important role here.

In Geekbench 3, performance in single-threaded operations reached 3569 points, in multi-threaded operations - 11086 points.

Overclocking of the processor and RAM was performed in the motherboard BIOS. Overclocking is also possible using the proprietary AMD Ryzen Master . We already know the overclocking potential of processors based on the Zeppelin crystal; we didn’t have to expect anything new.

At a voltage of 1.375 V (the absence of LLC on the motherboard led to voltage drops under load up to 1.356 V), the processor was overclocked to 4100 MHz, the RAM at 1.38 V was overclocked to 3066 MHz at timings 16-16-16-38 CR1.

In LinX 0.7.0, the processor testing was successfully completed.

The processor temperature reached 64°C, and consumption increased to 80 W! Yes, the computing performance of the processor increased by 32% (peak power reached 119 GFlops), but the price for this was a significant increase in temperature and consumption.

    In Geekbench 3, performance in single-threaded operations increased to 4592 points (+28.7%), in multi-threaded operations - 14847 points (+33.9%).

Next, the RAM was replaced with peer-to-peer memory KFA2 HOF Hall Of Fame, which is based on B-Die chips manufactured by Samsung. It was possible to overclock it to 3466 MHz with timings of 14-15-13-26 CR1.

As you can see, increasing the memory frequency and decreasing the timings had a positive effect on memory bandwidth and latency. The following results were obtained in Geekbench 3:

In Geekbench 3, performance in single-threaded operations increased to 4756 points (+3.5%), in multi-threaded operations - 15137 points (+2%). As you can see, this benchmark mainly responds to the processor frequency. Rank and memory frequency are secondary factors.

Benchmarks are benchmarks, but what about games? Going a little further, I would like to show the performance increase in the game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at 720p resolution and at low quality settings when overclocking the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor to 4100 MHz and memory from 2133 MHz to 3466 MHz with changing timings.

Complex overclocking led to an increase in the average number of frames per second by 52.4%, and the minimum by 55.8%! In this case, even the settings of secondary and tertiary timings had an effect, which made it possible to achieve the maximum level of performance from the processor.

    AMD Ryzen 3 1300X

The AMD Ryzen 3 1300X processor had different operating modes from the Ryzen 3 1200 : with the same 1550 MHz idle, the processor reached 3900 MHz at 1.43 V in single-threaded operations and 3600 MHz at 1.25 V in multi-threaded operations.

As a result, the stock 1300X the Ryzen 3 1200 on stock rigs, which makes it more attractive for use in A320 chipset motherboards.

In Geekbench 3, we have 3872 points for single-threaded operations (versus 3569 for the Ryzen 3 1200 ) and 12162 points (versus 11086) for multi-threaded operations.

But an increase in frequencies and operating voltages led to an increase in consumption and temperature. CPU testing in LinX 0.7.0 is an example of this:

    The processor reached a temperature of 51 ° C, and consumption exceeded 57 W.

But with overclocking the Ryzen 3 1300X, everything was not entirely smooth. It was possible to achieve a stable 4000 MHz only at a voltage of 1.43 V; an increase of even 25 MHz led to unstable system startup, and it was not possible to pass any benchmarks.

And here we are faced with the same effect as in the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 review - the younger processor outperforms its older brothers in terms of overclocking potential.

The best Ryzen 3000 series processors

Today, the third generation of the Ryzen series reigns on the PC component market. Below we will see three of the best processors built on the Zen2 architecture.

Video - AMD Ryzen 9 3900X and comparison with i9-9900K

    Synthetic tests

In synthetic tests, the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X took their natural place - in single-threaded applications, the processors were at a level or higher than their older “relatives”; in multi-threaded applications, performance differed from quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 by the magnitude of the frequency difference and SMT efficiency.

to use AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X for workstations, design, photo and video editing, it all comes down to insufficient multi-threaded performance. However, this does not prevent the processors from being used for everyday tasks, where AMD Ryzen 3 will show acceptable performance for a four-threaded processor.

    Review results

Reviews of Ryzen indicate the high performance of these processors in tasks that involve more than four command processing threads.

In modern games that are able to distribute the load well between the cores, Ryzen is practically not inferior to its competitors from Intel. Ryzen demonstrates the best gaming results at WQHD (2560 × 1440) and 4K resolution.

Reviewers' reviews of Ryzen can be summarized as follows:

Remarkable performance in professional programs and acceptable speed in games, which will increase as it is optimized for 8-16-thread processors in 2020/21 games.

    Gaming Performance

, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X processors were tested with an MSI GeForce GTX 1070 AERO ITX 8G OC graphics card. Testing was carried out in a resolution of 1280x720 at low quality settings and in a resolution of 1920x1080 at high quality settings.

For 1280x720 the following results were obtained:

In many aspects, AMD Ryzen 3 show similar performance to the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 , and sometimes even outperform the older version. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that many modern games do not always work well with virtual streams, and there is a general bias towards SMT technology as a beginner.

On the other hand, with intensive use of 4 or more threads, the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 begins to pull ahead, and as a processor with a reserve it looks more interesting.

At a resolution of 1920x1080 in most games, everything depends on the capabilities of the video card.
