How much should I weigh?
At some point I realized: this is no longer possible. And he joined the gym to lose weight and give his body beauty. Quite quickly I lost a dozen kilograms, and then the weight froze. I was trying to figure out where all the results of training go, and one day I heard this opinion.
Don't worry. In fact, you are losing weight. It’s just that as you lose fat, you build muscle, and therefore your weight doesn’t change. Wow!
It was then that I began to think that there was something else in my body besides fat. And anyway, who said that with my 184 cm I should weigh exactly 80 kg and not 96? Where do these numbers come from?
It turned out that when talking about the relationship between weight and height, it is customary to calculate the body mass index (BMI). This indicator was derived by the Belgian scientist Adolphe Quetelet back in the 19th century.
According to Quetelet's formula, BMI = body weight in kilograms divided by body height in meters squared. The resulting figure should be correlated with Quetelet's table. So my 95 kg with a height of 184 cm turned out to be class I obesity.
However, each organism is individual. A thin person cannot weigh as much as a heavy-set person. A man's weight cannot be compared with a woman's weight. Well, the useful weight of a jock and the excess weight of a glutton are completely different things. And what to do about it?
And then analyzer scales appeared
These devices show not only your body weight, but also its composition - what and how much your body contains. The volume of bone mass, the level of muscle mass, the amount of fat - that's all. These scales operate on the basis of bioimpedance measurements . When you stand on them, the gadget passes an imperceptible pulse of current through you. Because fat doesn't conduct electricity, the scale understands how much of it you have in your body relative to everything else.
Important! People with pacemakers and other medical devices are not recommended to use analyzer scales.
Analyzer scales are a dime a dozen on the market. There are gadgets from medical equipment manufacturers, for example, Omron BF-212. This is a completely autonomous thing that doesn't need a smartphone. There are also “smart” models. They are part of the ecosystem of fitness gadgets - Garmin Index Smart Scale, FitBit Aria 2, Polar Balance. Even Nokia released its own scales!
Of course, Xiaomi could not stay away. The company already has an ecosystem of sports devices built around the Mi Fit application - the Mi Band bracelet, the Amazfit Pace watch, and the Mijia Smart Shoes. Now the Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale has also appeared. Actually, I took them because they are not only “smart”, but also cheap.

What can be measured using Xiaomi scales
In general, Xiaomi has another model of scales – Mi Smart Scale. In addition to body weight, they can also measure body mass index, so they can also be called an analyzer. But this is where their measuring abilities end.
Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale, in turn, can measure:
- Body weight;
- Body mass index (BMI);
- Volume of muscle tissue;
- Basal metabolic rate;
- Total fat ratio;
- Visceral fat level;
- Bone mass;
- Water level in the body;
- Body type;
- General physical condition;
There are ten indicators in total. But you can see all this data only on your smartphone in the Mi Fit application. In addition, there will be more analytics and advice. The scales themselves only display body weight - in this they are inferior to expensive stand-alone analyzer scales like the Japanese Tanita.
But in terms of design, the Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale puts most of its brothers on the shoulder blades. They are minimalistic, look like a fashionable modern gadget - a snow-white platform, four round metal electrode plates... and that's it. There are no buttons or displays - the numbers at the top of the platform light up only when you step on the scales.
The body is made of matte ABS plastic. The material itself is durable, but for some reason a week later a scratch appeared on the site.
Packaging and equipment
The scales are supplied in a package made of thick white cardboard, which in appearance resembles boxes from other products of the manufacturer.
The kit itself is very modest:
- weighing device;
- user instructions;
- four AAA batteries.
Since the instructions included in the package are translated into Russian, there will be no problems using the device.
The body of Mi Smart Scale 2 is made of ABS plastic, the upper part is covered with a pleasant-to-touch mat that can be easily removed and washed. It is very convenient to stand on the scales; your feet do not slide on the surface or stick to it, which will be especially convenient if you use the device in the bathroom, where you will often step on it with wet feet.
To operate the smart scale, you will need to install AAA batteries; they are included; the installation compartment is located on the bottom of the device; they last for about a year of use.
The body of the equipment is very thin - only 14.7 mm, total weight - 1.6 kg. On the lower part there are rubberized feet that ensure reliable fixation of the device on the floor, so that they will not slide even on the surface of laminate and other hard coatings.
Important! Like other models of floor scales, Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale 2 is not recommended to be installed on soft surfaces - their readings in this case will not be accurate.
What new things have I learned about myself?
So, having installed the Mi Fit application on my smartphone and charged the scales with four little batteries, I stood on them. At this very moment they turned on - no other actions are needed.
So, having installed the Mi Fit application on my smartphone and charged the scales with four little batteries, I stood on them.
Important! You only need to weigh yourself on the Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale barefoot, so your feet must clearly stand on the steel platforms. Maximum weight 150 kg.
Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale is paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth 4.2. There is no need to configure anything. Data transfer from the gadget to the application occurs instantly.
The scale displays exact weight down to tenths. So my 95 kg turned into 95.7 kg. During the day, your weight fluctuates, and all its fluctuations can be recorded in Mi Fit. So, under certain circumstances, 95 kg can easily be increased to 98 kg.
After weighing, Mi Fit issues a detailed “Body Score” report. According to five indicators, I am doing rather poorly.
- Body mass index (BMI) shows whether your weight is in line with your height. In my case, my BMI turned out to be high – 28.2. The norm is 25.
- Body fat level - the scales counted 29.1%, but it should be somewhere around 17-20%. Mi Fit advises you to lose 6.7 kg. Hmm, not so much!
- The water level is insufficient. Only 50.6%. The norm starts at 55%. We need to drink more!
- Basal metabolic rate is how many calories my body burns to keep the spirit in the body. The scales measured only 1866 kcal. “Your standard basal metabolic rate is 1922 kcal,” notes Mi Fit, adding that the lower the metabolism, the faster a person gains weight and the more tired they become. You need to go for a walk after eating and go for a run at least once a week, the app advises. Well, I definitely won’t run!
- Visceral fat is the same dangerous fat that surrounds the internal organs of the abdominal cavity, and from which the belly comes. As many as 12 points, but it should be less than 9. You need to burn and not eat everything.
But two indicators are normal.
Mi Fit conclusion: I deserve 42 points; I am lighter than 19% of people of my height and location; I have a thick build. I wanted to exhale that I was not fat, but it turned out to be the first degree of obesity. 0_o Actually, Quetelet’s calculations indicated the same thing.
"Smart" scales Xiaomi Scale 2 - it's time to lose weight!
Greetings, friends! Today we are reviewing smart scales from Xiaomi, called Scale 2. From the name it is already clear that this is not the company’s first device of this kind. This model has similar features to the previous Mi Scale, but has received a number of improvements and changes. By the way, the first scales sold quite well, at least among my friends several people acquired such scales. For me, Mi Scale 2 will be the first “smart” scales. I will try to talk in detail about my impressions of this gadget and highlight the positive and negative aspects.

Weight control is a topical topic for many, especially for those who tend to be overweight. Even for those who do not have such problems, it is still not superfluous to have scales at home. The old Soviet scales have fallen into disrepair and the time has come to give way to a younger and more advanced descendant. Among smart scales, Xiaomi Scale 2 turned out to be the most advanced and with the most affordable price, which perhaps played a decisive role in the choice. After reading the reviews there was no doubt left and the order was placed.
The parcel was quite weighty: 2.21 kg. However, the device was securely packaged and the contents were not damaged. The scales are packaged in a white box with a picture of the device.
The main technical specifications are shown on the side.
Included are the scales themselves.
As well as instructions in Chinese and AAA batteries (4 pcs) in a separate box
The scales are packed in a plastic matte bag with Chinese characters.
The body of the scale is made of soft-touch white plastic. They have a screen, it’s just secret))
On the top there are four metal circles through which current pulses pass. This does not threaten human health, with rare exceptions.
The logo is embossed in the center class=”aligncenter” width=”800″ height=”600″[/img]
Xiaomi Scale 2 are quite compact in size, especially in terms of thickness. The weight allows you to hold them with one hand without much strain: 1.8 kilograms.
There are 4 rubberized feet on the back of the scales, which prevent possible slipping and make them more stable.
I initially placed them on the newspaper, so even the letters were pressed in) It’s definitely time to lose weight)
There is also a compartment for AAA batteries on the back side. I inserted the batteries included in the package.
And now the “invisible” display has appeared. The numbers glow quite brightly, although initially it seems that there is nothing in place of the display, just plastic, like everywhere else.
I immediately stepped on the scales and decided to find out how much I weigh now... To my surprise, the screen on the scales showed a completely prohibitive figure. Of course, I had gained weight in recent years, but the number was completely unrealistic, about twice my estimated weight. At first I even thought that something had happened to the scales during shipment. However, the problem was solved after connecting to a smartphone. It turned out that by default weight was measured not in kilograms, but in jins! This is a Chinese unit of weight. 1 jin=500g! So it turned out twice as much.
Xiaomi Scale 2 connects to a smartphone through the well-known Mi Fit application. Smart bracelets Mi Band 2, Mi Watch and smart sneakers work through it. Here I already had the following parameters: gender, weight, age and other parameters.
The application provides instructions for using the device.
The measurement process takes a few seconds; when connected to a smartphone, the measurement progress is automatically displayed on the display. The error is 200-300g. Maximum weight for which the scales are designed: 150 kg.
It is natural to weigh yourself on these scales without shoes and socks, i.e. barefoot, because the application shows many parameters besides weight. Here at your service: body fat level, water level, visceral fat level, muscle and bone mass, etc. I don’t dare to discuss the correctness of measuring these indicators, because I can’t check it)
For each parameter, an explanation is given regarding the norms, your situation, and advice is given on how to normalize the situation.
Well, the final verdict is not happy) I'm fat!
RESULT
I've been using the Xiaomi Scale 2 for a month now and overall I'm happy with it.
They perform their function flawlessly; there are no problems with connecting to a smartphone, nor with synchronization. Many measured parameters will be useful to some, but not to others. And it is difficult to verify the correctness of their measurements. You can, of course, use them as regular scales, but why buy them then?) Of the definitely useful functions: the ability to remember and track your weight for a long period of time, not to write it down on a piece of paper, 2k17 is around the corner) The result of determining the physique is “ “fat” certainly didn’t make me happy, but it gave my laziness a kick in the ass and now I go to the gym. I hope to get in shape so that the “smart” scales will praise me for my perseverance)) And even without their praise, it’s time to lose excess fat and normalize the muscle mass of my body. I wish the same for you!
Xiaomi Scale 2 successfully replaced the outdated Soviet scales and became just a nice piece of furniture on the floor of my apartment, which I don’t even want to hide in a box. And since they are always in sight, no, no, and you will weigh yourself) Friends who come to visit are also interested in this device and do not hesitate to use it. The girls just ask you to turn away so that you don’t see the result. No one knows that the scales are connected via bluetooth to a smartphone and I still know the result even from the next room))) But they don’t need to know this) True, after a crowd of other people’s feet you have to wipe the scales, you never know... Or you need to invite guests less often , or hide the scales...
Among the shortcomings that it is advisable to eliminate in Xiaomi Scale 3, if any:
— Very easily soiled case. If you step on the scales wearing shoes, then traces of sole imprints are inevitable. They can be removed quite simply, but still. — Scale readings may vary if used on uneven or hard surfaces. Those. on a carpet or on a balcony, for example, with a not very flat floor, weight readings may differ from measurements taken on a flat and hard surface. When used correctly, the measurements are identical.
There is also a restriction on use: because Since the scales transmit current pulses, they are prohibited for use by pregnant women and people with metal implants in the body or pacemakers. This is something to take seriously.
Discount coupon code
I found a list of discount codes on Cafago and found among them a discount on Xiaomi Scale 2. Using the coupon code “ AGAPS008
» the cost of scales will drop to
$40
.
Which is cheaper than what they are currently asking for on Gearbest and Aliexpress. It is valid until August 31st
. And in an offline store in my city they sell such scales for $65. I checked the coupon code, it works. You can also use the points that are given for registration, filling out a profile, etc. With their help you can reduce the price even further.
I tried to be objective and perhaps I could help someone in choosing (or, on the contrary, dissuade them from buying) “smart” scales. Thank you in advance for your likes and am ready to answer any questions you may have in the comments; I may have missed something.
Impressions and conclusions
Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale obviously coped with its task. I learned a lot of details about what was going on in my body. Moreover, to do this, you just needed to launch Mi Fit on your smartphone and step on the scales.

But is all this information necessary in everyday life?
Well, if you work out in the gym according to a training program, eat according to a strict diet, take L-carnitine, drink two liters of water a day and like fitness gyms on Instagram, then you will be interested in watching how your body changes. Will it go beyond interest? Will you be inspired to follow Mi Fit's tips? Who knows…
In my case, the process of monitoring myself quickly became boring . I had no intention of changing my lifestyle and doing anything beyond what I was already doing. One day I simply forgot to weigh myself! It was then that the Xiaomi smart analyzer began to turn into ordinary household scales, necessary only to stand on them once a year, gasp and decide to buy a gym membership.
