Don't install Driver Update - it will disappoint you!
Driver Update is a dubious program created by Slimware Utilities that falls under the spyware and adware category. It should identify and fix outdated drivers and update software. However, this potentially unwanted program (PUP) is completely useless.
One of the reasons why it deserves this classification is its shadow distribution method. The program can sneak inside your computer in conjunction with other programs and can initiate unwanted system scans. These scan results can be terrifying. However, people are encouraged to purchase the full version of the program to fix these issues.
However, this is not recommended because the scan results may be unreliable and may be exaggerated to increase program sales. The so-called Driver Update virus can also cause an excessive number of online advertisements to appear. The program can capture the most popular web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer.
The parasite may provide fake pop-up advertisements that claim that you need to update Java, Flash Player, web browser or any other software. Keep in mind that Driver Update promises to clean your computer of outdated programs and files. You may initially think that every Driver Update notification is reliable, but unfortunately, this is not the case.
Driver Update ads are misleading and may redirect you to shady places. So if you click on the “Download”, “Run Update” or “Click to Install Now” button, instead of installing the update, you may be agreeing to install other adware or even malware.
However, be careful as this application mainly tries to distribute other potentially unwanted programs on your computer through fake update messages. So, if you do not want to face more serious problems, you should consider uninstalling Driver Update.
The best way to get rid of this annoying application is to scan your system with an anti-malware and anti-spyware program. Scanning

Unfortunately, the program does not provide information about the release date of the updated driver. You can download the selected drivers manually one at a time, or select several for automatic downloading and updating (Fig. 2). The program also does not provide any hints about the criticality of updating each specific driver.

At this stage, the program will prompt you to enter a license key to download updates. The trial version does not allow you to download recommended drivers through the program interface (Fig. 3).

You can configure periodic scanning in the Settings ▸Scheduling (Fig. 4) . The program can automatically check for driver updates on a selected schedule - daily or weekly.

Update
Avast Driver Updater uses proprietary cloud technology to update multiple drivers at once without losing speed. The developer cooperates with more than 100 major equipment manufacturers to keep the database up to date; downloads are made from official websites.
Before installation begins, the program automatically creates backup copies of updated drivers and a restore point for the operating system (Fig. 5).

The driver update speed depends on the size of the downloaded files - in our case it took less than a minute (Fig. 6).

To reduce the risk of hardware conflicts, drivers are installed one at a time. If you install multiple updates at once, you may need to restart your computer several times. After each reboot, Avast Driver Updater will launch and display the remaining updates.
Safety of use of the system
There is an opinion that the use of automatic update systems can lead to disruptions in system stability, but the manufacturer of Avast Driver Updater has also addressed these risks.
Before installing new drivers, Avast Driver Updater creates backup copies of the updated drivers, as well as a restore point for the operating system. These steps allow you to revert to a previous stable version if something goes wrong.
Backing up and restoring drivers
In the Backup , you can manage backup copies of installed drivers - set the default location, move copies to another location, or create new ones (Fig. 7).

This feature provides certain advantages over installing updates manually - it increases the security level of the update process if the user does not make copies himself. For vigilant users who regularly create restore points, this feature will help avoid the risk of forgetting to make copies.
If you need to restore previously updated drivers, you can download them from the corresponding menu item. In addition, the program can be used to restore a copy of the operating system from a previously saved point (Fig. 8).

You can select the location where to save and from where backups will be automatically restored in the Settings (Fig. 9). Here you can also configure whether the computer will restart after restoring from a backup.

Hardly useful programs enter computers using bundled software
Driver Update is a deceptive application that may start providing fake update messages and other advertisements out of nowhere. Keep in mind that these messages and advertisements are caused by a hardly useful ad-supported program. The described program is also promoted through driverupdater.net pop-ups.
As a rule, such and similar programs are distributed using “bundling”, which is closely associated with various free and shareware applications. To be more precise, Driver Update virus can get onto your computer along with free programs such as download managers, PDF creators, media players, etc.
To avoid this, you should install free programs very carefully. Make sure that you select programs carefully and install them only after reading the sections of the license agreement and privacy policy. In addition to this, you should select the Advanced or Custom installation option if possible because this allows you to control the entire process and uncheck the “optional downloads”.
