How to teach a child to read quickly and correctly: speed reading exercises

Introduction

The Spritz company is a Boston company that promotes to the masses, or rather, to the Internet, its own method of fast reading, which, as it turned out during its testing, is really successful. Some of the best specialists in the field of productive reading technologies are working on the startup, which speaks volumes about the quality of the technology. But one of the main tasks of developers is saving time on reading. What does reading time consist of? Have you ever thought about it? Moving from word to word, flipping, head movements, eye movements and, of course, the reading speed itself, which we will talk about later. Let's dwell on our movements for now.

While we read, we constantly move our eyes and change the position of our head. It doesn't seem like it takes up any reading time, but it doesn't. And this is where the principle of how Spritz works comes into play. Due to the fact that words “pop up” in front of you and a certain letter (RedLetter™) is highlighted in a certain place (Optimal Recognition Point™), you do not make any head movements. As a result, you read the text like watching a movie. Now the company is trying to integrate its technology into some websites, social networks, reader updates and attracts developers to create applications for Android OS.

After reading the text above, many people became interested in using Spritz. I warn you, at the moment there are no PoweredBySpritz reader applications for the Android operating system, although there is an email client in the Samsung app store that uses this new product. But I will tell you how and what to use in order to use Spritz on your device.

For children over 8 years old

Continue improving your reading speed in second grade. Eight-year-old children are independent and fast. They have outgrown the first grade activities, so offer them other fun exercises and games:

Looking for a word, line

The point of the game: the student finds all the words in the text that begin with the same letter. Searching for a whole phrase is a more complicated version of the task.

The exercise teaches attentiveness and develops the left hemisphere of the brain - the linguistic one.

Insert letters

A second grader is presented with a text with missing letters. To read it and understand it, you need to think of endings and prefixes.

This speeds up the pace of text comprehension in the future and helps to combine letters into whole words.

Fixing the error

The teacher reads the text, the children follow. The teacher deliberately makes a mistake in the ending of a word, root, etc. The student’s task is to correct the inaccuracy.

Read at speed

A second-grader independently takes measurements of reading technique, timing a minute, and keeps a diary of successes. Normally, by the second grade, children read at least 70 words, in the third - 100 words, in the fourth - 120.

Playing "Hidden Words"

The game is similar to reading anagrams. Children find words in the letter box. It looks like this:

Words can be selected on one topic or randomly. It is better for primary school students to provide a list of words that need to be found, leaving the task of isolating them on the field.

And one more option that you can print and use with your child.

Reading and counting

A second grader reads the text and counts the given sounds. For example, in the following poem, find out the number of “o” sounds.

The ball is bouncing along the path,

We can't catch the fast ball.

Develops multitasking skills and concentration.

Usage

1. Android operating system

First of all, I advise you to use the site Readsy.co, which is designed to read everything you can using Spritz. Paste links, use the built-in editor, upload text files, copy and paste the text you need. The interface is intuitive, which means there should be no problems. One point worth noting. In order to enjoy reading speeds over four hundred words per minute, you must create a Spritz account. The procedure is performed via the API.

There is such an application as “Speed Reading”, which is most likely made using this technology, but the developer is silent about this (copyright may be violated, so download from the site, just in case). The application has a very rich functionality, which you better learn about from the instructions for the application itself, so as not to waste interest.

Where to get the texts themselves, you ask. Don't copy the required text across the page, right? In order to get a book with text on one HTML page, go to lib.ru. Copy the text of the book you want, paste it and read with pleasure.

2. iOS devices

You can also use the site Readsy.co, and if you want to get the coolest window right on top of the site, here are the instructions for implementation: First, save this page to bookmarks, giving it a name, for example, Sprizlet. Let's copy this code:

javascript:(function(){function loadScript()%7Bvar script=document.createElement(%27script%27);script.setAttribute(%27type%27,%27text/javascript%27);script.setAttribute(%27charset%27 ,%27UTF-8%27);script.setAttribute(%27async%27,%27true%27);script.setAttribute(%27src%27,%27https://sdk.spritzinc.com/js/1.2/bookmarklet/ js/SpritzletOuter.js%3F%27+(new Date().getTime()).toString().substring(0,7));document.documentElement.appendChild(script);script.onload=script.onreadystatechange= function()%7Bvar rs=script.readyState;if(!rs || rs===%27loaded%27 || rs===%27complete%27)%7Bscript.onload=script.onreadystatechange=NULL;Spritzlet.init ();}};}if(window.Spritzlet)%7BSpritzlet.activate();}else%7Bwindow.Spritzlet=window.Spritzlet ||%7B};window.Spritzlet=%7Borigin:window.location.protocol+%27 //%27+window.location.host,loaderVersion:1.0};loadScript();}})();

“Go” to the bookmarks, click the “edit” button. In the second field we paste this code. Save the bookmark. Now, whenever you want to read any news, you can simply open this bookmark while viewing the page.

In addition, there are a number of applications for Apple devices that allow you to use Spritz in various ways:

ReadMe! ($1.99) - ePub reader, which seemed to me not very convenient in terms of working with literature in Russian.

Quickipedia ($0.99) is a very interesting application that allows you to read articles at great speed.

RapidReader ($0.99) is another analogue of the Readsy online application, but costs $3.

BibleGist (free) - An app that lets you read the Bible using Spritz.

3. Desktop browsers

The first point is clear. Readsy.co again, but you want to use a similar window as iOS device users? So here it is. Go to this page and drag the “Spritzlet” button to the bookmarks bar in your browser. Result: a Spritz window on top of the page you need.

4.Windows Phone

Unfortunately, there are no applications of this type for devices running this OS. But, sorry for the repetition, use Readsy.co.

iOS, Android, Windows

The application is perfect for learning foreign languages and will appeal to those who, in addition to works of fiction, like to read magazines, newspapers and comics. The Nook library contains 4 million listed titles, and there is a dictionary for unfamiliar words. The application also has a convenient search so you can quickly find a specific place in a book or magazine.

Android

This application is more than a reader. It is created as an interactive literary encyclopedia, offering a new format for in-depth reading. In addition to the ability to read the book, it contains information related to the work on history, geography and other subjects. The first book available in the new reader format was the novel War and Peace. In addition to the work itself, users have access to an interactive character map, the text contains links to expert comments, and the content is presented in the form of infographics. Android

In an accelerating world, speed reading has become one of the extremely useful skills. Reading applications with built-in Rapid serial visual presentation technology will help you learn to read quickly, but do it with pleasure. Reedy is one of them. In addition to training speed reading, the application has several useful functions, including bookmark management and many supported formats.

iOS, Android, Windows

The application will appeal to lovers of the classics and those who need access to these works, for example, for study. For a small fee, you get access to more than 5,800 works of Russian classical literature: works of art, philosophical treatises, journalism, memoirs. The application has a convenient search for books by author and title, search for text fragments, and the ability to add any number of bookmarks. “Home Library” also offers quick access to links to additional data on Wikipedia.

iOS, Android

From the name it is already clear that we are talking about the audio component. The advantage of the application is that it contains not only audiobooks, but also texts. That is, once you start reading a book, you can continue listening to it when it is physically impossible to read - for example, in the gym or while driving. The library contains both classic works and new items.

Own feelings

Indeed, reading with Spritz is very convenient. This technology saves time by increasing reading speed, plus, by concentrating on the text in order to catch the thread of the story, you are distracted from external stimuli (chat messages, for example). Sometimes, there are inconveniences when encountering large words, but nothing can be done about it (the words simply may not fit into the window). This is a noticeable minus, but there is a text rewind button. You can read voluminous works using this technology, but sometimes difficulties arise with determining the speech of the hero of the work. It is not always possible to see who owns the text. Here, of course, regular books win. But, with very limited time, Spritz really helps out.
