Review and tests MegaFon Login. Stylish and functional gadget for little money

The practice of implementing so-called camera gadgets is not new at all. Megafon can also boast of such a decision, which offers its subscribers a phone and tablet under the Megafon Login 2 brand for a promotion. In this way, the operator is trying to attract more customers, but is the choice in favor of just such a gadget always justified? We will tell you about the features of Megafon Login 2 in this publication.

Features of gadgets

The reasons why Megafon launched a line of gadgets under its own brand are quite obvious - attracting new customers. And it must be said that this goal is achievable, because for a relatively low price the client receives a fairly decent device in technical terms. Moreover, the operator itself is not involved in the production of these gadgets: for example, the Megafon Login 2 phone comes off the assembly line of the Chinese company Dongguan Huabei Electronic and Tecnology, and the tablet is manufactured to order at the facilities of Foxda Technology Industrial.

These devices have one significant drawback, although from the operator’s point of view it does not look like one. It consists in the fact that both the smartphone and the Megafon Login 2 tablet do not work under a third-party SIM card. The only option to eliminate this software limitation is firmware.

Connection

Like other devices from, the Login 2 tablet is compatible with a SIM card only from this operator. But there is one nuance that few people know about. If you are in Russia, you will not be able to start the device by inserting an MTS or Beeline SIM card. But abroad everything is different. If you insert a SIM card from a foreign telecom operator into the tablet, everything will work immediately. There is nothing supernatural about this. The device is simply equipped with a software module that can recognize Megafon’s closest competitors. As you know, they are Beeline and MTS.

The tablet operates in 2G and 3G communication standards. The user can access the Internet via Wi-Fi. According to experts, the quality of communication is at a high level.

Smartphones

One of the conditions that captivates consumers with the new Megafon Login 2 is its extremely tempting price, with an eye to which the phone is positioned as an affordable device with 3G support. As part of the promotion carried out by the operator, this gadget will cost the subscriber only 2,230 rubles, of which 1,690 rubles are positioned as the cost of the device itself, and the remaining 540 are the starting capital in the account. It is worth noting that such conditions are available only when signing an additional agreement for use from Megafon. If you don’t connect it, the price of the phone will immediately increase, to 2990 rubles.

If you evaluate the technical characteristics of this device, you will find the following features:

  • In terms of communication, Login 2 from Megafon supports GSM, CDMA, GPRS, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even GPS protocols;
  • Capacitive screen, 3.5 inches diagonal and 320x480 pixels;
  • Dual-core processor from MediaTek with a frequency of 1 GHz;
  • The internal memory is 4 GB, and the RAM is 512 MB;
  • The media group includes two on-board cameras with an expansion of 3.2 and 0.3 megapixels, FM radio;
  • Standard connectors are provided for connecting headphones, memory and external memory;
  • Powered by a replaceable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh;
  • All this equipment runs under the guidance of the Android 4.2.2 system.

Purchasing Megafon Login 2 makes the average buyer a new subscriber in the literal and figurative sense: under a contractual agreement and in fact, since the phone does not initially work with SIM cards from other operators.

Review of MegaFon Login 2 MS3A. Test of the most affordable smartphone on Android 4.2

The appearance of the Megafon Login smartphone on April 1 literally blew up the Russian mobile device market. And this is not surprising: for a modest price, a device with the current version of Android and hardware decent for the budget segment was offered at that time. The model had no competitors for a long time, only over time, against the backdrop of successful sales, other operators released their offers. But even this did not reduce sales volumes; the operator sells about 100,000 units per month. of MegaFon Login 2
, as well as its companion MegaFon Optima, began The smartphone is still the most affordable smartphone running Android 4.2. It was Megafon that opened a new segment in the Russian smartphone market, a bold decision that deservedly led to the first line of the sales ranking in this period. It’s interesting that even our readers, when reviewing models up to 4000 - 5000, often cited the first Login as an adequate alternative in comparison. Due to the fact that the operator has the opportunity to reduce the final cost, focusing on attracting and retaining its subscribers, the smartphone was able to successfully compete with models 2000 - 3000 rubles more expensive. This also confirms the huge demand, which the operator could not always satisfy. Resellers also got their hands on this, the smartphone was selling like hot cakes even with markups of 500 rubles or more.

When creating the second generation, it is worth paying tribute to, the operator maintained the given price level, and did not simply duplicate the offer with a higher price tag, taking advantage of the popularity of the first Login. Second-gen buyers get a tasty deal in terms of features and platform with the same purchasing budget. You can argue a lot about the advisability of buying budget smartphones, compare the characteristics and assure that it is worth investing another 5,000-7,000 rubles and buying a more interesting solution. But you must admit, it cannot be denied that there are a considerable number of buyers who are not ready to spend a lot of money on buying a phone, and does everyone really need the performance of flagships and the indispensable presence of the Apple and Samsung logo on the back cover (which adds +100 to the importance and style of the device). The smartphone can be used simply for communication, the Internet and casual games. And use cases, for example, in narrow areas, such as taxis, when a smartphone is needed to run only 1-2 applications, should not be forgotten either. With the release of a smartphone with updated hardware, everything has become even more comfortable and faster.

Availability

At the time of testing, the cost of MegaFon Login is 1990 rubles. The buyer will also need to sign a contract, paying approximately 570 rubles for several months of Internet use.

The presence of this smartphone on the market casts doubt on the advisability of purchasing budget solutions (so-called dialers), such as the Nokia Asha and other similar phones with a limited platform in terms of the functionality offered.

Equipment

The smartphone is delivered in a compact package made in the operator’s signature green colors. An image of the smartphone and a list of components are posted. Data on technical characteristics are not publicly published, although it would seem that there was something to be ashamed of.

Included with MegaFon Login 2, the buyer receives: a network adapter, a USB-micro USB cable, a warranty card and an instruction manual.

Appearance

If previously the first generation was available in two versions - black and white, then Login 2 is available only in black. Apparently, the operator decided not to upset the forces and not complicate logistics, so as not to provoke a recurrence of problems with availability. And whether these color variations are needed in the budget segment is a big question; if you want to stand out, there is always the option of installing a bumper or cover. A whole palette of removable covers is available for the first version, which means there will be one for the second one as well.

The case material has changed; instead of plastic with Soft-Touch coating, it is now a more practical material that does not easily stain.

The dimensions of MegaFon Login 2 are 120x63x13 mm and weighs 112 grams. The case is assembled soundly, there are no creaks or play of parts. Honestly, it’s a little unusual to hold such a compact device, it feels like a weightless design, this is reflected in our extensive experience in testing flagship solutions, where the majority of devices come with a diagonal of 5 inches and above.

The main area of the front surface is occupied by a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, with three touch buttons at the bottom. For those who are still waiting for solutions with mechanical buttons, I would like to remind you that the touch solution is a fulfillment of Google's requirements.

There are traditionally two mechanical buttons here: the power button on top and the volume rocker on the left.

An audio jack and micro USB (for connecting to a PC and charging) are located on the top edge.

At the back there is a 3.2 megapixel camera peephole paired with an LED flash, as well as a speaker grille.

The case is collapsible, under the back cover there are: a removable battery, one slot for a SIM card and a slot for micro SD.

There are no complaints about the build quality; the smartphone is easy to use with one hand.

Screen

The screen diagonal remains the same - 3.5 inches, as does the matrix - capacitive TFTTN. The resolution is 320x480 pixels. As expected, the display suffers when the viewing angle changes; color rendition and brightness suffer when there are deviations (green colors become purple, and so on). But it is worth noting that here, apparently, they have worked on the quality of the matrix, the colors are rich, and pixelation is not visible during normal use. This feels like one of the best displays we've tested this year in the sub-$100 segment.

A useful addition, in comparison with the first generation, was the appearance of a light sensor; users now have access to automatic adjustment of the screen brightness level.

Filling

It is no secret that it was the chip manufacturer MediaTek that made it possible for smartphones to appear in the budget segment that were capable of running the latest versions of Android. Subsequently, this success was consolidated with the release of MT6577, a little later than the quad-core MT6589 and the first eight-core 64-bit chip, which is expected in January 2014. The chips are really good and at the same time compare favorably with the final cost. MegaFon Login 2 received an updated dual-core Mediatek MT6572M chip with a clock frequency of 1 GHz. It was released simultaneously with the quad-core MT6589, positioning itself for the entry-level segment. It is capable of running complex games and demanding applications, but at the same time has low power consumption. 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of data storage are available. The memory can be expanded using micro SD memory cards.

Antutu

Below is a comparison table with the data we obtained during the tests. I would like to note a noticeable increase compared to the first generation. A slight advantage over smartphones based on Mediatek MT6577 (price niche ~ 5,000 rubles, the first smartphones on it were tested in early 2013), expected lag behind quad-core MT6589 (price niche ~ 7,000-10,000 rubles, the first smartphones were tested in early summer 2013 of the year). For those who regularly comment on our tests as an alternative to the advisability of purchasing on the secondary market, in particular the Samsung Galaxy S2 (~7000 rubles), MegaFon Login 2 outperforms it in terms of results in synthetic tests.

Battery

Compared to the first Login, the second one received a battery with increased capacity, it increased from 1350 mAh to 1500 mAh. Taking into account the use of an energy-efficient platform, low display resolution and the lack of graphic add-ons in the platform, battery life has increased. With average use, the charge will last for 2 days or more.

Connection

MegaFon Login 2 can only work in Megafon operator networks in 2G/3G. Maximum speed: HSDPA – up to 21.6 Mbit/s, HSUPA – up to 5.76 Mbit/s. Paired with the ability to work as an access point, the smartphone can be used in the office or at the dacha to distribute the Internet to third-party devices. Bluetooth 3.0 HS with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct are supported. Everything works stably, the signal is received reliably, no failures have been recorded. The micro USB connector supports file transfer via USB 2.0.

Camera

Main camera – 3.2 MP. The quality is quite mediocre, autofocus suffers in low light. The pictures, of course, are better than what Android tablets are capable of, but they do not reach what smartphones in the mid-price segment are capable of. Most likely, in reality the matrix here is more modest than 3.2; interpolation is used.

Software

MegaFon Login 2 is controlled by the Google Android 4.2.2 operating system without a proprietary shell. And this is a big plus for the stability and smooth operation of the device. I consider the downside to be the presence of an excessive amount of pre-installed software from Yandex and a number of applications that the user cannot remove using normal means. The problem can be solved by a simple procedure of obtaining root access, but this will void the warranty. Also installed are four programs from Megafon: money, navigator, application store and beep. The usefulness of each of them is questionable, but how could an operator deny himself the pleasure of promoting his applications. Actually, the same Megafon.Navigator is completely duplicated by pre-installed Yandex.Maps. With a modest 4 GB of memory, this is an unforgivable luxury. As an example of a rational approach, I would like to cite a solution from Prestigio, which consists of a utility that offers the user the most popular and in-demand offers for independent downloading. This will help non-advanced users get used to the system faster and will not clutter up their memory with unnecessary software. I am glad that they did not replace the Google Play application store with Yandex.Store. The user can download any software, there are no restrictions.

Results for MegaFon Login 2

MegaFon Login 2 has become the expected and successful continuation of the acclaimed smartphone.
While maintaining cost, the device has improved performance, increased battery life, received an updated platform and more practical body materials. The smartphone continues to be the most attractive offering in the market in this segment, snatching sales share from budget smartphones with a price tag that is double that offer. Of the minuses, I note: the operating system is cluttered with pre-installed software. MegaFon Login 2

Based on the test results, he receives the well-deserved
“Hit” award.

Tablets

Under the Megafon Login 2 brand, not only smartphones, but also tablets are sold on the market. It is also provided as part of the operator's promotion upon connection. The cost of the gadget at the start of sales was equal to 3,680 rubles, of which the tablet is valued at 2,990, and 690 is the subscription fee for the connected service.

Like its smaller brother (the tablet has a 7" diagonal compared to the 3.5" diagonal of a smartphone), it has one weak point - it only supports Megafon SIM cards. The filling and technical characteristics are almost identical to the previous gadget. The same memory volumes 512 MB / 4 GB (a decision, rather a marketing one, to reduce the cost of the device), similar parameters of a dual-core 1 GHz Qualcomm processor, the same 3G module. The camera has a 2 megapixel expansion, but in terms of performance it is almost identical to the one with which the phone is equipped (it has a 3.2 megapixel sensor). The screen is naturally larger in size and resolution – 1024x600 pixels. The tablet also features a battery whose capacity has been doubled to 3000 mAh.

Impressions, conclusions

The device comes with Android 4.4.2 out of the box. The chipset installed in the smartphone does not support Android 5 and higher, so you should not expect updates.

I will note the presence of pre-installed Kaspersky Internet Security antivirus, the Trava music service, and the MegaFon branded service. Otherwise, it's pristine Android.

The package includes a manual, simple headphones, a charger and a cable.

The speaker is loud, the vibration alert is above average in strength and feels good, you won’t miss a call. The quality of communication is also good and does not raise any questions.

Login+ works on 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) networks. LTE is not available. Speed HSDPA – up to 21.6 Mbit/s, HSUPA – up to 5.76 Mbit/s.

When connecting to a computer, USB 2.0 is used, the device is defined as a “flash drive” (MTP). The device can also be configured as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot).

Among the competitors, Fly Quad Era Life 7 IQ4505 and Prestigio Wize E3 3509 come to mind with the ability to simultaneously use two SIM cards. But at the same time, the devices look simpler, the screen resolution is slightly worse, and the cases are completely plastic. Let's just say the phones lack a touch of charisma. And the cost of these models is higher.

Compared to them, Login+ looks much more interesting, at a price of 3990 rubles. in the current financial situation in Russia, a very good offer. The only downside is the very limited operating time.

For those who are thinking about how to please their loved ones on New Year's Eve, you can take a closer look at this model.

Possibility of unlocking

Firmware Megafon Login 2 is in principle possible, even in several ways. But if you look at this issue globally, the appropriateness of such actions raises some doubts:

  • On the one hand, why not free a phone that is quite good for the money from the system burden, giving yourself a free hand in choosing a mobile operator;
  • From another point of view, a purely technical one, firmware makes sense if you use the gadget like a regular phone. The fact is that the 3G module, which is responsible for connecting to the Internet, is configured for the HSPA+ protocol specific to the Megafon operator and will most likely be out of work if you change the service provider.

If you still decide to unlock it, you can do it in the following ways:

  1. Using the MTK Code Reader utility. More precisely, not even the program itself, but the data obtained with its help. The unlock code is presented as 67587048, but it is only valid on gadgets with the old, original firmware. If the latter is updated, the combination simply will not work. To enter it, you need to insert a SIM card into your phone or tablet - the request will appear when you turn it on;
  2. Using the system menu. This option is suitable for entering the previously mentioned unlock code on devices with an updated system. First, you will have to type the system USSD command *#*#3646633#*#* on your keyboard. It will display the engineering menu, in which you will need to sequentially select the items Simme Lock, Network Personalization, Unlock and enter the code 67587048;
  3. Use of third party services. If for some reason none of the above firmware options is successful, then you can turn to specialized Internet resources for help. There, for a fee, based on the IMEI number, they will generate and provide the required combination.

All these methods are equally suitable for phones and tablets from the Megafon Login 2 series. But the choice still remains with the user.

Acquaintance. Case, dimensions

The device arrived at our office quite late. Sales started in February of this year. Therefore, we will not talk about any newness. This is a fairly well-known device on the market with good sales statistics. Let's figure out why the device became popular.

Nice matte plastic, metal back with the operator's name on it. The top end has 3.5 mm and microUSB connectors, on the left side there is a paired volume control key, and on the right side there is a button to turn the device on/off. The thickness of the device is 9 mm.

The phablet does not feel like a budget device, it is well assembled, without any backlash. The design of the device will be strict and recognizable due to the back cover.

Unlike many budget models, the presence of metal in the design adds a couple of points to the overall experience of using the device.

Under the back cover there is a battery, slots for a microSIM card and a memory card.

The phablet is comfortable to hold; due to the rough plastic, it does not slip out of your hand. In principle, for basic actions (making a call, typing an SMS), one hand is enough, but it all depends on dexterity. For most users, especially girls, the device will seem large. Its dimensions are 155x77x9 mm. Weight 154.4 g. In fact, it is something between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+.

It’s interesting how yellow the iPhone 6 screen is in this test.
