Despite the failure of Yandex.Phone (450 phones sold in a month) and the general unprofitability of the gadget business, it continues to take steps in this direction in order to make money on services, and not just on search advertising. Starting today, Yandex.Auto on-board computers with Yandex software have appeared in MTS communication stores in eight cities. This is a car computer, that is, a tablet with branded services. The day before the start of sales, representatives and MTS informed Vedomosti about the fact. Through MTS stores, tablets are sold for 23,000 - 26,000 rubles, depending on the region. This is cheaper than the price in the Yandex online store (29,900 ₽). Apparently, the tablets are locked to MTS SIM cards.

On-board computers from Yandex appeared on the market at the beginning of this year and until now were sold only online by Yandex itself.
According to GfK research, in 2020 alone, about 49,000 multimedia automotive devices were sold in Russia for a total of 478 million rubles, a Yandex representative said. But these statistics do not take into account purchases on the Internet and from car dealers. According to Yandex, actual sales of multimedia devices are twice as high.
As a software package (without its own tablet), Yandex.Auto is used in more than 100,000 cars. But the main turnover will come from direct contracts with manufacturers.
