It's funny, the first company to release a mobile phone with a built-in camera was the little-known J-Phone. The Japanese introduced the miracle device back in 2000, and after a couple of years the company began to fall apart and be resold in parts to various foreign operators. After that, Sony-Ericsson and Nokia entered the race of so-called camera phones. Companies have been measuring megapixels, xenon flashes and autofocus for a very long time. Looking at the then market leaders, in 2009 Samsung released a phone with a record 8-megapixel camera. The culmination of the war was the release of the Nokia 808 smartphone with PureView technology and a 41 megapixel photosensor. Its successor, but already on the Windows Phone platform, was the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Equipment
The Lumia 1020 box is different from any other Lumia - nothing. The equipment is also quite standard:
- power unit
- USB cable
- Headset
- Set of ear pads for headset
- Clip
- Set of instructions
Of course, like the previous Nokia flagship, the Lumia 1020 has the ability to connect a wireless charging accessory – the CC-3066 charging case.
To highlight the power of the camera, you can buy the Camera Grip kit, which externally turns the 1020 into a compact camera with an additional shutter button, an additional battery and a hole for a tripod.
Appearance and ease of use
The smartphone is made in the same style as the entire Lumia line, the same smoothed edges, slightly convex black front panel. Dimensions and weight are comparable to Nokia's former flagship, the Lumia 920. Just like the 920, the Lumia 1020 body is made of matte polycarbonate, pleasant to the touch. The material is very good for gadgets, because it is very tenacious and due to this, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand and does not try to slip away. The front panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which is quite scratch resistant. The smartphone is not too slender and fits perfectly in the hand.
At the top of the panel, the company logo, front camera, barely noticeable holes for the light and proximity sensor, and the earpiece are located quite standardly.
Under the screen there are backlit touch buttons: Back, Home and the most important and necessary one - Search, which, according to the standard, simply launches the Yandex search bar. It is worth saying that now the buttons are located significantly higher than the bottom edge and the problem with false presses as in the Lumia 925 is simply absent.
The upper end of the device has a small flaw; the SIM card slot does not close quite flush with the body; in addition, to open it you need to use a proprietary paper clip. In the review of Lumia 925, we already beat the engineers on the hands for such access to a SIM card, but, unfortunately, Finns do not read our reviews. Next to the Micro-Sim slot there is an additional microphone and a jack for connecting a 3.5 mm headset.
At the bottom of the device there is an external speaker, a microphone, a microUSB port and a thing for attaching a lanyard. The external speaker, by the way, is quite loud.
On the right edge of the smartphone there are lock buttons, camera buttons and a volume rocker. The buttons are made of black metal and have a matte texture. They feel well and move well. The lock button is located just perfectly, it immediately lies under the thumb, and this is very convenient. The location of the camera button is not very convenient; if you hold the smartphone in your right hand, sometimes there are false positives and the camera application is launched.
On the back panel you can see an impressively sized camera. It protrudes from the body by 3-4 mm, and the cover plate on the module is made of ferrous metal. The camera has a mechanical shutter to cover the camera sensor, an LED for focusing and a flash are located above the camera. Closer to the bottom you can see contacts for connecting the case with the wireless charging unit.
Externally, the smartphone looks very attractive and is somewhat reminiscent of the Nokia N8, which also had a slightly protruding camera block.
Nokia Lumia 1020 review
Nokia Lumia 1020 was released on July 11, 2013 and truly revolutionized mobile photography. And this is not surprising, because at the moment this smartphone has the best camera module ever installed. But let's take things in order.
Generally speaking, I would call this device an entry-level DSLR-level camera (Nikon D3100 or Canon 1100D) with some phone and smartphone features. There is a very strong emphasis on photography in this smartphone. There has been a lot of buzz around the Nokia Lumia 1020, and the only thing this smartphone lacks is software, which is being actively updated. Thank God that we already have a full-fledged Instagram client. It is worth paying tribute to the fact that if Apple released such a smartphone, it would be a disaster for everyone. The potential of such a camera, coupled with a huge application base, tore all competitors to shreds. But enough flattery for the Cupertines. Their times are long gone.
When the Nokia 808 PureView was first announced, I thought: “What a shame to install such a powerful camera module in such an unpromising platform?” Indeed, the 808 model was the last model on Symbian and since then support has ended, but the camera remains. The release of Nokia Lumia 920 was an attempt to restore the power of the camera already paired with a new platform. The attempt was successful - a pass. And now, a real PureView smartphone is born. An ugly mixture of Nokia 808 and Nokia Lumia 920 with a much more refined camera module. Nobody managed to come closer.
If you look at the Nokia Lumia 1020, we won’t see anything new here. Of course, I'm talking about design. If we compare Nokia Lumia 1020 and Nokia Lumia 920, then I find practically no differences in the front panel. It is true what they say is that Nokia has eaten dog on design and does not want to be distracted from its traditions. Why reinvent the wheel? But honestly, I would like to see something unique in terms of design for such a unique smartphone.
Dimensions. Nokia Lumia 1020 is 130 millimeters high and 71 millimeters wide. The thickness of the device reaches 10.4 millimeters. As you can see, the thickness is quite significant in the current year 2013. But wait, this is a “smartphone DSLR” - does the owner of a Nikon D3X think about size and weight? No, of course, what matters to him is what his device can do. So if you buy Nokia Lumia 1020, then you should not care that the smartphone is far from the thinnest on the market. The weight of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is 150 grams and this is quite noticeable. Paired with a plump figure, this smartphone makes itself known when it is in your trousers pocket or in your hand. You will never forget about your pet.
I warn you: using a smartphone takes some getting used to. And all because we find something completely absurd on the back panel. I won’t hide it: the camera module of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is far from the most beautiful. The camera window is small, and the giant black bulging circle on the back really detracts from the sleekness of the device. But nothing can be done. We had to sacrifice the figure of the device for the power of the 41-megapixel sensor. At first you don’t even know how to hold it: fingers on the camera or fingers around the camera, but gradually you get used to it and working with the device even becomes comfortable.
At the top end of the device I found a 3.5 mm port for a headset and headphones, a slot for a micro-SIM card and a microphone. The SIM card slot opens as usual - using a special key that comes with the smartphone. But practice shows that even if you lose this key, the port can be opened with any thin object - a needle or something else.
At the bottom end we have a microUSB output and a huge speaker. It’s very good that the speaker is located at the bottom end - when the phone is on the table, the sound is not muffled, but when you put it in your pocket, you need to turn it up louder. The solution is to place the phone upside down.
On the side faces everything is the same as before. There are three buttons on the right - the volume rocker, the power button in the middle, and the camera button below. Even if your device is locked, you can press and hold the camera's power button and the camera is ready to shoot. Even if your screen is locked with a password. In this case, you will be able to take and view the last picture you took. Everything else will be unavailable. Wow, practical!
Since we are talking about design now, let’s bring this topic to the end, and then we’ll talk about the filling and, of course, the camera. The device does not have a large color palette like other devices, but nevertheless, the coloring will satisfy Nokia Lumia lovers - here there is yellow, white and black. As you can see, our review is black. All colors are matte, so it will be convenient to take photographs and there will be no danger of dropping the device while photographing some emergency moment.
Nokia Lumia 1020 is powered by a 2000 mAh battery and is charged both traditionally and wirelessly. But there is one caveat: to charge the device wirelessly, you will need a special panel, which you will have to purchase in addition. Wireless charging is indicated by two small holes on the rear panel at the bottom of the device. Battery life is excellent - compared to power-hungry Android flagships, the Nokia Lumia 1020 simply shines. With moderate use, the device will work for at least two days. But like all smartphones, when actively surfing the Internet,
The Nokia Lumia 1020 screen is made using PuremotionHD+ technology in a resolution of 768x1280. The diagonal is classic - 4.5 inches, 332 pixels per inch. It supports the operation of favorite objects including hard or gloved fingers. The screen does not fade at all in the sun, the picture is readable and clear. In the settings, you can adjust the color rendering of the screen, and also set the clock that will be displayed when the screen is locked.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and two cores. The amount of RAM is 2GB, which is a first for Windows Phone. At the moment, this is not such a need, since there are no applications that need such an amount of RAM. But the potential is huge, so we are waiting for some powerful camera application, even more powerful than the current Nokia Pro Cam.
The only pity is that this smartphone cannot boast of a slot for microSD memory cards, but the device has 32GB of memory, of which about 26GB is available. Quite normal, but for a smartphone with such a camera it could have been more. You'll have to resort to SkyDrive or Dropbox. Already at your discretion.
Camera. It's time to talk about the most delicious things. First, let's talk about the module layout. The camera lens is covered with a special cover that closes when the module is not in use. When you launch the camera, the lens curtains open. If the module is damaged, the curtains will be damaged, not the lenses. By the way, there are 7 lenses and an improved floating lens stabilization system is installed.
The sensor size is 1.5″ inches and the aperture is F/2.2. Needless to say, this is an excellent indicator for a smartphone. Nokia Lumia 1020 boasts two flashes. One xenon and LED. The LED is used for autofocus illumination, the second is directly for photography. Nokia claims that the xenon flash will capture moments even in the worst lighting conditions. There is nothing to complain about - the truth is the truth.
When you first launch your device, the Nokia Pro Cam camera app walks you through a quick tutorial on how to use the camera and basic photography concepts. So if you are, excuse me, a noob, then with the help of the built-in hint system you will significantly expand your knowledge and be able to take high-quality pictures.
Nokia Pro Cam is used as the default camera application. Please note that the Nokia Lumia 1020 runs Windows Phone 8 GDR2, where in the settings you can select which application will be launched when you press a physical button. We won’t talk much about this application; that’s what our review is for. I can only say that this application allows you to control all the camera capabilities as on professional cameras. In addition, you can ignore all these features and settings and just use the automatic mode.
Although the device has a 41 megapixel module installed, due to the physical size of the matrix, you can only take a 38 megapixel photo. If you like to publish photos, you will certainly appreciate the dual-shot function - the camera will simultaneously take photos in 38 megapixel and 5 megapixel resolution. You can leave the original for editing professionally on your computer, and publish the small one on Instagram or Vkontakte. Of course, you can publish photos in full size 7728x5368, but then I can’t guarantee for your traffic - it will be depleted instantly.
The camera shoots FullHD video at a frame rate of 30fps. There is also a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video calls.
Due to the huge camera resolution, you can triple the photo, crop or rotate it. At the same time, you will not lose on quality. Only the Samsung Galaxy Zoom can boast of something similar, but as you know, this device does not have the same high-quality optics and parameters as the Nokia Lumia 1020.
The only criticism regarding the performance of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is that the camera takes quite a long time to start up. First, the application turns on and only after a second or two do the camera controls appear. Only then can you shoot.
Optionally, you can purchase a special rear panel, which boasts a tripod socket, a camera shutter button and a special handle for comfortable support. In addition, the panel has a 1200 mAh battery installed, which will significantly extend the operation of the device.
The call quality for a camera is simply excellent. How nice it is to see that not only photography is at a high level, but also the quality of communication. You can hear your interlocutor perfectly and the noise reduction system is at a high level. The device supports all three parameters of wireless WiFi networks, support for communication in LTE and 3G networks. There is Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC.
Bottom line. Overall, I really liked the Nokia Lumia 1020. It's always a pleasure to review flagship devices. The camera of the device is a delight. The system, as you know, works at the highest level - there are no complaints about performance. 2GB of RAM is enough for ideal system operation. I recommend this device to film enthusiasts who have a fat wallet because paying $700 for a device is somehow too much. But if you need high-end photographs, it’s better to buy yourself a Nikon D90 or Canon 60D.
Screen
Nokia Lumia 1020 is equipped with a 4.5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1280x768 pixels, with a sensor that supports 10 simultaneous touches and the ability to work with gloves. The screen is really very cool, the contrast and brightness are high, the viewing angles are maximum. Despite the modest resolution, the picture looks very tasty and realistic. On the technological side, the screen has all the bells and whistles: an oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating - which makes it easier to wipe off fingerprints, an anti-glare filter - makes the screen easier to read in sunny weather, the use of OGS technology (screen without an air gap) - makes the smartphone thinner and lighter.
If the colors seem not quite vibrant or too contrasting, then all parameters can be easily changed in the settings to your liking. Unfortunately, according to the Windows Phone standard, you can select only three screen brightness positions, instead of the usual slider.
Nokia 1020 - 41 megapixels and nothing more
Reward accrued
This material was written by a site visitor and was compensated for.
It was 2013, touchscreen phones were replacing push-button phones, and Nokia, trying to survive in the market, released its flagship Windows Phone, called Lumia 1020, which, 7 years before the Huawei P20 Pro, received a 41 megapixel camera.
The smartphone has a 4.5-inch AMOLED screen, its resolution is slightly higher than HD. Inside is a Qualcomm processor with 2 cores, 2 GB of RAM, a network module that supports 4G, and it all powers up a weak 2000 mAh battery, which is barely enough for one day of use.
In short, the phone was not bad, but it cost 25 thousand rubles, which means it needs to be compared with flagships, such as the Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5s. The same Galaxy S4 already has a 4-core processor and a Full HD screen.

The main problem with the Lumia 1020 was the long loading time of the camera, since it has as much as 41 megapixels. And when taking photographs, you had to wait a few seconds to see the result. It was almost impossible to catch the desired frame, whereas on the iPhone 5s, the flagship of that year, the camera started up faster and quickly took the photo you needed..
As a result, the 41 megapixel camera turned out to be useless. When taking photos, the smartphone saved 2 photos: one large one with a size of 38 megapixels, and the second, supposedly for social networks, with a size of 5 megapixels. A 38 MP photo weighed about 50 megabytes, and the difference with a 5 MP photo is almost unnoticeable, how does this happen? The fact is that a small lens inside the body cannot reveal such a resolution, so 5 MP was enough, and there was no need to make such a large camera sensor that sticks out terribly, even if it was intended for bokeh. The camera also has one plus: full optical stabilization, and this is very cool, because it appeared in the iPhone only a year later.
The main feature of Nokia Lumia was the Windows Phone interface. The system was smooth and beautiful, but for some reason smartphone manufacturers quickly abandoned it in favor of Android. After 2 years of releasing smartphones on Windows Phone, Nokia successfully went down. Well, write your opinion about the device in the comments, and that’s all for today.
System
Lumia 1020 runs Windows Phone 8 with a pre-installed Lumia Amber package, which includes additional programs for working with the camera, photo editors, FM radio, displaying a clock on the locked screen, unlocking the screen with double tap and other gadgets.
The camera app is different from other Windows Phone smartphones. Nokia Pro Cam allows you to change all camera settings, from ISO to manual focus. There's a great app for creating panoramas, animated photos, and applying hipster filters.
It is worth saying that Windows Phone is receiving more and more attention from developers, and in principle, you can already find everything you need in the application store, with the exception of the browser. Of course, many will say that you can install some kind of UCWeb, but it still runs on the crooked Internet Explorer engine.

The appearance of the Nokia Lumia 1020 rightly evokes an overseas exclamation of “wow!” The new product looks especially stylish in a lemon-colored case, although in nature there are variants with black and white colors. Despite the presence of a decent-sized camera at the core (which is why the Lumia 1020 is tempting to be called a camera phone), Nokia engineers managed to do the impossible - the thickness of the model’s body is only 10.4 mm. For comparison, the body of the recently released Nokia Lumia 625 smartphone is 9.2 mm thick. And the Lumia 1020 weighs even less than the Lumia 625 - 158 g versus 159 g. Yes, the difference is just one gram, but all this shows and proves that the time has finally come when it has become possible to easily carry a camera phone in the back pocket of your trousers.
As for the control buttons, on the right side we found a lock button, a volume button and a camera control button. The latter has two positions and can be used even when the smartphone is locked without setting a password. At the top end there is space for a headset jack, a retractable slot for installing a Micro-SIM card and a hole for a second microphone. The bottom end is equipped with a grille for the main speaker and microphone, a Micro-USB connector and a hole for attaching a lanyard.
The hardware of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 processor with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz, an Adreno 225 video accelerator, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The smartphone owner also has access to free 7 GB cloud storage. Of the 32 GB of flash memory, approximately 29 GB are available to the user. It is impossible to expand the memory (attention!) - the model does not have a slot for installing a memory card. This fact leads to some confusion, because for modern photographers, flash memory is an integral part of the shooting process. Apparently, 32 GB of internal memory should, according to the developers, compensate to some extent for the lack of expandable flash space. You can download captured photos and other data via the USB 2.0 interface, for which the new product is equipped with a Micro-USB-B connector. The same connector is used for charging.
The display of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is made using AMOLED technology and its size is 4.5 inches diagonally. We don’t often come across AMOLED screens, so let’s allow ourselves a little educational experience. AMOLED is an abbreviation for the English words Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode, which translated into Russian means “active matrix organic light-emitting diodes”. AMOLED technology uses organic LEDs as light-emitting elements and an active matrix of thin film transistors (TFT). A curious feature of AMOLED displays is that their energy consumption depends on the brightness of the image on the screen: the darker the picture, the less energy the device consumes. The advantages of the technology are: the ability to create very compact screens, high contrast, wide viewing angles vertically and horizontally (approximately 180 degrees), short response time, wide color gamut. The screen resolution of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is 1280x768 pixels (332 ppi). ClearBlack technology is supported so that the user can work comfortably in bright ambient light. The touch layer applied on top of the screen supports up to ten simultaneous touches, allowing you to use the smartphone even with gloves (not too thick, of course). The screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating, which does not need to be specifically advertised.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 cellular radio module operates in 2G/3G/4G networks. For 4G there is support for Band 7 (FDD, 2.6 GHz), which cannot but please subscribers of Megafon operator networks. The promised maximum data download speed on the LTE network is 100 Mbit/s, and the upload speed is 50 Mbit/s. In the WCDMA network (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz) similar indicators are more modest, but also encouraging: 42.2 Mbit/s and 5.76 Mbit/s, respectively. Finally, in GSM networks (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz) the maximum download and upload speed is 236.8 kbit/s. Other communication capabilities include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC and GPS. The global positioning system supports compass, barometer, A-GPS and A-GLONASS. Among the navigation features and services we found HERE Maps, HERE Transit and HERE Drive+.
Finally, let's move on to the description of smartphone cameras. Even the front camera of the model has very decent characteristics. With it, you can take photos with a resolution of up to 1280 x 960 pixels, and videos up to 720p (HD, 1280 x 720). Well, the main camera is just a photographer’s dream! The main camera sensor size is 41 MP (PureView). Lens: Carl Zeiss Tessar. The camera has an autofocus system, LED backlight and xenon flash with a working range of 4 m. By the way, the xenon flash provides more natural lighting than conventional LEDs. Photos can be taken with a resolution of 5 megapixels, and videos can be recorded in 1080p quality at 30 fps (with magnification up to 6x). Wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture provides greater depth of field in low light. The focal length of the camera is 26 mm, the minimum focusing range of the camera is 15 cm. Focus can be automatic or manual. Among other camera characteristics, we note optical image stabilization, an optical system of 6 lenses and 3x high-resolution zoom.
And here is the time to talk about Nokia PureView technology, which is used in the smartphone camera. The PureView technology itself is designed to improve image quality and minimize zoom loss when zooming is used. The improvement comes through oversampling, where adjacent pixels are grouped together to form “superpixels.” This removes grain, noise and other image defects. That's why the output is a 5-megapixel photo, because... All pixels available to the camera are grouped. True, there is also a disadvantage of PureView technology - a decrease in the speed of the camera. Those. there can be no talk of “rate of fire” here.
If the owner of Nokia Lumia 1020 is a professional in photography, then he can use the “Pro Camera” application. To activate the application, you need to slide your finger on the screen over the shutter button, as a result, the user will have access to all camera settings. Here he will be able to manually control exposure, shutter speed, light sensitivity (ISO), white balance and focus - just like in a digital SLR camera. There is a Smart Cam mode that allows for continuous shooting. Using the strobe effect, you can combine several photos into one, remove unnecessary objects, etc. Editing photos is convenient in the Creative Studio application. Creative Studio's editing tools let you quickly adjust color balance, remove red-eye, and apply filters. Of course, it is possible to post your photos on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.
Perhaps it remains to highlight the issue with the battery. It is not removable and its capacity is 2000 mAh, but it would be foolish to wish for more, given the small size of the Nokia Lumia 1020. Nevertheless, the manufacturer announced very impressive figures. Thus, the maximum standby time is 16 days, talk time on a 2G network - 19.1 hours, talk time on a 3G network - 13.3 hours, music playback mode - 63 hours, video playback mode - 6 .8 hours, in Internet mode via Wi-Fi connection - 6.7 hours. If the battery is discharged at the wrong time, you can quickly extend the life of the smartphone thanks to a special photo case with an additional battery with a capacity of 1020 mAh. The case has a charge level indicator and a connector for attaching to any standard tripod. In addition to this innovative photo case, it is possible to purchase an optional back cover for wireless charging. And finally, it’s useful to buy a regular case for storage and carrying.
conclusions
There is no doubt that with its appearance, Nokia Lumia 1020 will further blur the boundaries between smartphones and camera phones. The main 41 megapixel camera of the new product, of course, stands out in the literal and figurative sense, but the model in question can already be carried in your pocket, because the thickness of its body does not exceed 10.5 mm. Along with this, the Nokia Lumia 1020 performs all the other functions of a smartphone: it allows you to watch videos and play games on a very high-quality AMOLED screen, allows you to work in 2G, 3G and 4G networks, and has various navigation functions and services. Finally, the new product runs on Windows Phone 8, and there are a lot of add-ons and special software for this system. Of course, in such innovative devices there will always be certain disadvantages. These include the lack of an expansion slot for memory cards, low photo shooting speed and support for only one SIM card. Some people will be put off by the new product due to its price - currently the recommended cost of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is 27 thousand rubles. However, no one will argue that the new product is worth the money.
PS This was, so to speak, the official part. And now a real “report” from the owner of Digimedia.ru, who used the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone for two weeks.
1) I don’t like Android and thank God they don’t install it on the Lumia 1020. Windows mobile is great. It works quickly, not without glitches, of course, but where they are not. In any case, there was not a single case where the screen did not respond to pressing or there were lags when scrolling. There is a problem with content migration. That is, if when “moving” from iPhone to iPhone everything is copied, including SMS messages, then I didn’t understand how to broadcast them here. I hope that Microsoft will resolve this issue and everything will be backed up automatically. Because as a user, I don’t want to dance around an expensive smartphone.
2) Camera….such a camera. I'll post a few pictures below. Maybe I’m an idiot, but I don’t understand where these most beautiful megapixels are, numbering as many as 41. The pictures are mediocre. And you don’t need to tell me about the settings. Everything beautiful should work by default. The camera starts up very slowly. If you want to remove a cat you encounter, it will most likely run away. Controlling the camera is awkward and unintuitive. There are too many settings for a beginner and too few for a professional. The flash is good, but sometimes it is unclear whether it will work in automatic mode or not. It shoots video no better than the iPhone 5. It eats up the battery with terrible force when working in photo mode. However, more about the battery later.
3) The sound is good, both in headphones and in speakers. The built-in audio player is terribly primitive. But of course there is an alternative for money. The video runs smoothly. There are no complaints about the multimedia functions at all!
4) Connectivity. 2 fatal glitches with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were discovered. We connect to the home wireless network, then we go for a walk, there we “cheat” on the home network with “Chocolate Girl”, and upon returning home the “beloved” leaves us without a sexual connection. It can be treated by rebooting, but until the next spree. Well, Bluetooth refuses to remember the pairing with the car’s voice module. Tested on the Range Rover Vogue, when paired, its smartphone first calls it a headset, then launches some mysterious Reacton software. After returning to the car, you need to remove it from the list and “pair” again by entering the PIN code. On the second day I gave up and stopped using the speakerphone. Minus option, sad!
5) Battery... The most painful part. Either the agency provided me with a dead sample, or Nokia needs to change the development team. Because a smartphone that turns off at 18:00 in the evening, given that it was on charge all night, is already beyond good and evil. Considering that I didn’t play on it or watch videos, but just surfed the web and chatted on Facebook. During the process, the device became very hot in the camera area.
6) Another drop of honey: I was pleased with the wireless charging. A solid A for her! A very useful and nice option. True, you have to buy it separately.
Finally, as promised, I am publishing several “masterpieces” of a super-duper-megapixel camera, which occupies almost a third of the back wall of the smartphone.
On this “life-affirming” note, we will end the story about Nokia Lumia 1020. And you can decide for yourself whether to buy it or not.
Performance
In fact, the description of the Lumia 1020's performance could simply be omitted and a link to the Lumia 925 review here. Both devices have a similar hardware platform, except for the RAM amount increased to 2 GB in the 1020. The lack of any incredible graphical effects in Windows Phone allows Even the cheapest smartphones on this system work very quickly and responsively. From the point of view of heavy and demanding 3D games, everything is fine here - Asphalt 8 works great.

Autonomy
The Lumia 1020 is equipped with a non-removable 2000 mAh battery, which is quite impressive for a 4.5-inch smartphone. Since we don’t yet have programs for testing the battery life of Windows Phone smartphones, we will once again resort to the results of the authoritative resource GSMArena. According to test results, the Lumia 1020 in Internet browsing mode via Wi-Fi is discharged in 5 hours 50 minutes, the result is very, very modest. In video viewing mode, the battery runs out in 13 hours 12 minutes, in talk mode – in 22 hours 13 minutes.
It is very strange that the time for watching videos and surfing the Internet differs by more than 2 times, apparently Internet Explorer makes the device sweat.
Camera
Probably, in light of the peculiarities of the smartphone, the review should have started with this section. Lumia 1020 has a 41 megapixel main camera with a 1/1.5" sensor, PureView technology, optical stabilization and two flashes. In fact, the camera shoots on the 38+5 megapixel principle, which means that when shooting, 2 files are created in the smartphone’s memory - one 38 megapixel and available for viewing on a PC, and another 5 megapixel which is opened on the smartphone. A high-resolution image can only be viewed on a smartphone through a cropping application (cropping the image).
Only the Nokia Pro Cam application allows you to unlock the full potential of the camera; only it allows you to take photographs with a resolution of 38 megapixels; other applications like Panorama or Nokia Smart Camera think that the smartphone has a 5 megapixel camera.
Nokia Pro Cam is a very convenient and functional application. All settings open in the form of semicircles, which you just need to pull in one direction or the other to change. The number of settings is quite comparable to some good point-and-shoot camera; in addition, there is the ability to focus manually.
It is worth noting that the presence of optical image stabilization (the system eliminates camera shake) is practically unnoticeable; night shots are slightly blurred.
Photo from the main camera, 38 MP:
Photo in sunny weather
Photos with flash are simply wonderful, objects are not overexposed, the picture does not turn blue
Macro at minimum focal length
Night photos come out great
Many point-and-shoot cameras are not capable of taking such pictures

Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41-megapixel camera officially presented
Nokia Lumia 1020 or Nokia EOS , as it was called before the official release, became, perhaps, the only model of the Finnish company in recent times that was able to arouse quite wide public interest even before its appearance.
So, what exactly is interesting about this smartphone?
First of all, naturally, it’s worth describing the notorious camera with a 41-megapixel matrix resolution. Of course, one can argue for a long time that a gigantic resolution is not at all an indicator of excellent quality, however, in the case of the Lumia 1020 the exception confirms the rule - the masters of built-in optics Nokia , together with long-term German partners from Carl Zeiss , have created a truly high-quality “camera phone”, quite capable of replacing a digital camera for most users.
It's no secret that photography lovers are a particularly prominent consumer segment for Nokia , so the developers have thought through all the nuances of the Lumia 1020 to ensure the most comfortable experience with the device's camera.
Users will be able to take both huge, 28-megapixel photos with the ability to quickly edit, and small 5-megapixel photos. Nokia Pro Cam application allows you to work with shutter speed, aperture, focus movement, etc. Naturally, it could not do without the use of optical image stabilization technology.
The developers also worried about the safety and ease of use of the smartphone by releasing a Camera Grip , which is equipped with a tripod mount and allows you to take pictures without removing the device. It is not yet known for certain how much the accessory will cost.
The technical characteristics of the Nokia Lumia 1020 did not exceed expectations, but did not disappoint - the smartphone will be equipped with a dual-core processor, have 2 GB of RAM and a 32 GB solid-state drive. AMOLED display will have a resolution of 1280 by 760 pixels. Perhaps it is worth highlighting the decision of the Lumia 1020 developers to abandon the standard slot for Micro SD memory cards.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 go on sale on July 26, the price of the device has not yet been disclosed. Note that the Finnish company has previously released a similar gadget with a 41-megapixel camera - Nokia 808 Pure View . Unlike the new product, the Pure View ran on the rather outdated Symbian ; The Lumia 1020 will run on the standard Microsoft Windows Phone platform Lumia .

Bottom line
In fact, the Lumia 1020 is still the same 925 Lumia but with a 41-megapixel camera and a price one and a half to two times more. At the same time, the camera evokes a very ambivalent reaction: on the one hand, in many cases it takes slightly better pictures than other smartphones, but on the other hand, you understand that this small difference in quality is not worth the difference in price.
Overall, the camera often takes better photos than mid-range and budget compact cameras, so the 1020 can save you from having to take a point-and-shoot camera on your next trip.
The Lumia 1020 is quite an interesting device, with good capabilities, but, unfortunately, the circle of consumers is very limited.
I won’t classify the Windows Phone 8 system as one of its advantages and disadvantages, it’s just different and it has its fans.
pros
- Best-in-class camera
- High-quality AMOLED display
- Housing materials
Minuses
- High price
Alternatives
Nokia Lumia 1520 – 25,000 rub. / 6000 UAH.
Lumia 1520 is the new flagship camera phone from Nokia. It’s funny, in Russia it still costs more than 1020, but in Ukraine the situation is diametrically opposite, the new product costs 1000 hryvnia less. If you are not afraid of a 6-inch screen, this smartphone will also be an excellent choice. The camera here is only 20 megapixels, but the pictures are no worse.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom – 15,000 rub. / 4500 UAH.
If the Lumia 1020 is still a smartphone, then the Galaxy S4 Zoom is more of a compact camera with a built-in smartphone. It looks very monstrous, and the average person would be more surprised to see you talking into a camera on the street. The smartphone is equipped with a 16 megapixel camera, but there is a tenfold optical zoom. The camera app also has a wide range of settings. The hardware of the devices is very similar, but the software is radically different - Android and Windows Phone.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact – 22,000 rub. / 5400 UAH.
Xperia Z1 Compact - the smartphone is equipped with the most powerful 20 megapixel camera from Sony, slightly inferior to the camera in the Lumia 1020. The smartphone is much more powerful than the Lumia in hardware terms and has a waterproof case. The advantages include a slightly more capacious battery, smaller dimensions and weight. The Xperia Z1 Compact is a very serious competitor to the Lumia 1020.
The device is provided by Nokia in Ukraine.
Persistent memory
From a technical point of view, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom allows you to store more photos as the device supports 64GB microSD cards. Nokia Lumia 1020, unfortunately, cannot offer such support, and its memory capacity is limited to 32 GB. However, it is worth considering the fact that microSD usually have lower write speeds than the phone’s internal memory, so on Zoom there may be some lag during shooting, especially when quickly shooting several images at once. However, it is worth considering that you are unlikely to position either one or the other device as a serious camera.
