An accessible world of virtual reality with VR glasses HIPER VRQ+

29.05.201931
Virtual reality is a concept that was first heard several decades ago. A technology about which films are made and science fiction writers write, and which may soon change our world beyond recognition. Just imagine: you are playing a game, flying at breakneck speed in a powerful racing car. Turning your head to the side, you find there not the usual wall of your apartment, but a passenger seat with a navigator. Interesting, isn't it?

What is included?

When a person orders Hiper VRR virtual reality glasses, he receives a small box containing:

  1. The device itself.
  2. A cover that protects the lenses from mechanical damage and acts as a smartphone holder.
  3. An elastic strap allows you to securely fasten the device in the desired position.
  4. Small microfiber cloth. It is very convenient for wiping eyepieces.
  5. Charger.

All listed items are stowed in a safe manner and cannot be damaged during transportation.

There's a new addition to the line

In 2020, the Hyper company decided not to stop there and released a new line of helmets. This included virtual reality glasses Hiper VRR, VRP, VRQ and VRQ+. Now about them.

Hiper VRR: cheaper than ever

The manufacturer managed to reduce the cost of the top model to a meager price of 890 rubles. At the same time, the key characteristics have remained virtually unchanged:

  • dimensions: 170x140x95 mm;
  • weight: 240 g;
  • required smartphone screen diagonal: 4.3-6 inches (but better from 5.5);
  • lens diameter – 42 mm;
  • adjusting the distance between your eyes and the screen.

These properties are endowed with glasses for immersion in virtual reality hiper vrr.

Hiper VRP: even more convenient

The hiper vrp glasses are similar to the previous sample. The peculiarity of the device is a more comfortable soft insert made of artificial leather. Now after watching the film there will be no marks left on your face.

The hiper vrp is compatible with smartphones with screen diagonals from 4.3 to 6. The weight is well distributed, almost unnoticeable, the weight of the device without the phone is 300 grams.

The average price in Russia is 1390 rubles.

Hiper VRQ: one step ahead

An even more modified example is hiper virtual reality glasses of the vrq model. They adjust the distance between the lenses, the focal length, and the interpupillary distance. The weight of the device has increased slightly, now it is 380 grams.

At what price can I buy glasses?

Virtual reality glasses cannot be called an expensive device, but their cost may vary depending on the store where they are sold. Today these products can be purchased:

  1. Priced from 900 to 1400 rubles , if you order goods on Yandex Market.
  2. Paying from 1000 to 1600 rubles , if you use the services of M Video.
  3. Priced from 800 to 1300 rubles , if we are talking about cooperation with Eldorado.

Despite the slight difference in cost, each of the mentioned stores can provide customers with virtual glasses of the same quality.

Review of gadgets from HIPER. Briefly: impressive

The other day we got our hands on a couple of models of HIPER virtual reality glasses. Today I will talk about testing them. But first, about the technical characteristics of the devices that came into our hands.

Virtual reality glasses from HIPER belong to the first type of device. They are compatible with both iOS and Android smartphones with a display ranging from 4.3 to 6 inches. Both models have convenient and secure mounting mechanisms for holding your smartphone and aspherical lenses that provide a wide view.

Using the wheel on the outer case, you can control the distance to the virtual screen. The area for the smartphone has a convenient and reliable cover with a magnetic lock.

Appearance

The glasses have an ergonomic design . At the front there is a cover that completely covers the smartphone and does not allow unnecessary light to penetrate into the body during use. The phone is securely fixed inside the device thanks to the holder. The case has holes designed to connect a charger if the smartphone runs out.

On the top of the device there is a wheel and a lever designed for various settings. The design includes an elastic strap that makes it possible to fix the device on the head.

The element of the glasses that is in direct contact with the person’s face is covered with soft leather of artificial origin. There is a comfortable recess for the nose. The front cover is connected to the body via a reliable hinge. It is almost impossible to accidentally break the device in this place.

The elastic straps are equipped with special devices, thanks to which it is possible to adjust the glasses to the shape of any face in a few minutes. The device itself does not have much weight, but if you insert a heavy smartphone into it, the player will have to get used to the sensations for some time.

The British company Hiper produces a line of virtual reality helmets for smartphones, which includes four devices of different price ranges. All these devices have similar functionality. However, there are some significant differences. I suggest you read information about the Hiper VRS virtual reality helmet and its older brothers.

How does the device work?

Many users who pick up virtual glasses for the first time ask the question of how to control the game. It is worth noting that the device is suitable for working with most operating systems installed on modern phones. When it comes to management, there are two ways to control the gameplay:

  1. Eye movement . This option is the simplest and most common.
  2. Using an external controller connected via wireless networks.

To start playing, you need to download your favorite application , for which you can use virtual glasses. You can use such a headset to watch videos , as well as virtual travel around the world.

Device in operation

Many new users do not know how to control games and programs in a helmet that does not have any buttons.

HIPER VRX virtual reality glasses are a truly passive headset that does not require any software configuration. This helmet is compatible with Android, iOS, Windows 10 and Windows Phone 8 phones.

Control can be carried out by eye movement, since some models provide such a possibility; the gameplay in this case is based on pointing your gaze at the desired object or button.

Another control method is to use an external joystick or keyboard (wired or wireless). Basically, these devices do not need any additional configuration - you just need to connect them to your phone.

Let's talk about using the headset with Android phones. Although you don’t need to configure it, you still have to download and install the Google Cardboard program, since it can be used as a VR launcher, and it also allows you to search and download the necessary software. Of course, there are many other VR launchers on Google Play, so if you don’t like the application from Google, you can replace it with similar software from other manufacturers.

What is a joystick?

virtual glasses controller Such additional equipment plays the role of a mouse for a mobile phone. It is assumed that the user will hold the joystick with one hand, while the other remains free to carry out any manipulations with the glasses, such as settings.

The gamepad can be connected both via wireless networks and via cable. To connect it correctly, you need to follow the algorithm:

  1. Set the switch to the correct position, that is, select the phone's operating system.
  2. Press the power button and connect your smartphone using the controller.

Once the connection is successfully established, you can start playing.

Specifications

Hiper VRQ is a headset, the helmet does not contain any auxiliary electronic devices. VR applications directly depends on your smartphone.

The minimum phone requirements look like this:

  • operating system - Android 4.1, Windows Mobile 7.0, iOS 6.0;
  • screen diagonal - 4.5 inches;
  • resolution - 1920x1080 pixels;
  • processor - from 4 cores;
  • presence of sensors - accelerometer and gyroscope.

Important characteristics of the helmet itself include a viewing angle of up to 110 degrees and the quality of the mounts, which allow you to hold both the phone and the helmet on the user’s head even in the event of sudden movements.

Main technical characteristics

Virtual reality glasses have features that determine their cost. The device is characterized by:

  1. Supports iOS and Android .
  2. The presence of optical lenses, acrylic variety with a diameter of 42 mm .
  3. The presence of a magnetic trigger.
  4. The presence of the ability to adjust the distance from the eyes to the screen.
  5. The presence of Velcro that serves as a fastening device for a smartphone.
  6. Focal length reaching 68 mm .
  7. Weight is 360 grams .

The described features characterize the device as a reliable, convenient and multifunctional device. Thanks to them, glasses have earned popularity among a large number of players of various ages.

Compare four inexpensive models

The topic of virtual reality remains relevant, although it does not show the explosive growth that was predicted for it when calling 2016 “the year of VR.” At least in Russia. Sony PlayStation VR and HTC Vive have not yet appeared in official retail. But on the other hand, the range of inexpensive virtual reality glasses (helmets, headsets - in this case they are the same thing) is actively expanding, and their prices are falling. A year ago, we talked about four inexpensive virtual reality glasses and came to the conclusion that the optimal price-quality ratio starts somewhere around 5,000 rubles. Now, quite decent VR headsets can be purchased for around 2500-3000 rubles. We will talk about several such models produced by Hiper in this material.

  • Impressions and conclusions

To begin with, a few general points. We have already voiced them in one form or another in our materials about VR helmets, but here we want to repeat them directly in connection with these models.

So, all inexpensive VR glasses (priced up to $100) are made of plastic with lenses inside. There are no electronics there. The functional differences between the models are compatibility with smartphones (this parameter is determined solely by the size of the smartphone, the operating system and other parameters are unimportant), the width of the viewing angle and the ability to adjust the lenses (the distance between the left and right lenses, as well as between the lenses and the user’s eyes).

In addition to functionality, there is also the issue of ease of use. This is a more subjective parameter, however, in any case, it is noticeable when the manufacturer still makes some effort to ensure comfort. For example, he equips glasses with soft pads, takes care of the comfort of the belts, etc.

Finally, the last aspect is the packaging and some special features in terms of software (promotional codes for VR applications, for example). All of the above are the main factors that determine the quality and level of VR glasses, so we will focus on them.

Video review

To get started, we suggest watching our video review of Hiper virtual reality glasses:

You can also watch our video review of Hiper virtual reality glasses on iXBT.Video

Hiper VRS

Let's start with the cheapest model. Its equipment is the most modest. Apart from the glasses themselves, we only found a short leaflet with a user manual in the box.

However, it would be strange to expect more at the official price of 1190 rubles. There is no adjustment of the distance between the lenses and the user's eyes. But the manufacturer has thought out a convenient mechanism for installing a smartphone. To open the lid under which you need to put it, just press the button on the top side of the headset.

Next, the smartphone does not need to be inserted under any clamps. Just place it with the screen towards the lenses and close the lid until it clicks. On the inside of the cover there is a soft foam pad that presses the installed smartphone from behind, fixing it tightly and at the same time without scratching it.

There is foam rubber on the outside, on the side of the belts. When we put on glasses, it is adjacent to the user's face. Although we cannot say that this is the optimal material - it is not dense enough, so we still feel the hard plastic under the foam with our faces. There is one more disadvantage, and it is even more significant. The glasses put quite painful pressure on my nose. Moreover, neither the recess for it nor the adjustment of the belts can help. Because of this, long-term use of Hiper VRS is unlikely to be comfortable.

As for the appearance of the Hiper VRS, it seems bulky, but one cannot fail to note the visual similarity to the Oculus Rift Developers Kit. For some, this may be a plus - it is, after all, a cult device; for others, it may be a minus (the final version of the Oculus Rift looks different, that is, the original design automatically seems outdated).

Either way, for the price this is a great option. If you don’t have specific vision problems and just want to try what this thing is - VR, then Hiper VRS will be just right.

Hiper VRM

The next most expensive model already has many of the same advantages that we are used to seeing in more expensive glasses. The first is to adjust the distance between the user's eyes and the lenses, as well as between the lenses themselves. The second is an ear pad made of soft perforated artificial leather. Thanks to the well-chosen material and shape of the device’s body, there is no unpleasant pressure on the nose or other parts of the face, so you can spend much more time in the Hiper VRM.

The smartphone is also placed under the cover here. It has a magnetic clasp. But inside there is a rather tricky fastener that you need to press and slide to the side to open.

The equipment of the Hiper VRM is also much more interesting than that of the cheapest model. In addition to the device itself, the user receives a cloth for cleaning lenses, as well as two napkins - dry and wet. They're probably worth using to clean the ear pads and parts of the headset that come into contact with your face.

In addition to the above, a foam attachment is included in the headset itself, which allows you to use small smartphones (with a screen from 4 to 5 inches) with Hiper VRM.

Hiper VRW

The third headset is only 200 rubles more expensive than the Hiper VRM, and, to be honest, we didn’t notice much of a difference in terms of functionality.

The ear cushion, mounting straps, adjustment options, smartphone installation mechanism, and even the equipment are identical here. According to the manufacturer, the lenses are distinguished by the presence of an ultraviolet coating, which reduces eye strain, but this claim is difficult to verify. However, we have no reason not to trust him.

The differences are related only to external aspects of the design; they cannot be called fundamental. That is, the choice between Hiper VRW and Hiper VRM will be determined solely by taste preferences.

Hiper VRX

Finally, the most expensive option of the glasses under consideration is distinguished by the presence of adjustment of the distance from the lenses to the user’s eyes and between the lenses themselves, the foam rubber gasket between the smartphone and the case, and the materials of the straps and ear pads.

The ear cushion is made of foam rubber, but covered with fabric. As for the straps, when you put on the headset, a pad of two pieces of artificial leather is adjacent to the back of your head, between which there is a soft material (possibly foam rubber or something similar). In all of the cheaper headsets described above, this gasket is less comfortable.

To fix the smartphone inside the headset, you need to forcefully apply it with its “back” to the adhesive surface on the cover. It is not entirely clear how this solution will work, for example, with the fabric cover of the Moto X Force and whether it will leave marks on the glass surfaces of Sony and Samsung smartphones, but at least there were no problems with the iPhone 7 Plus.

Another interesting detail of the Hiper VRX is the magnetic lever button on the left side. The manufacturer reports that it can be used to control applications and games. We, however, were unable to find applications where this button would work, and the mechanism itself is not very clear. Since this is a purely mechanical solution, it is unclear how it will affect what is shown on the smartphone.

However, of all four glasses, the Hiper VRX is the most advanced and, perhaps, well worth the price difference compared to cheaper options.

We also note that even the most expensive Hiper glasses are cheaper than a number of solutions that are more modest in functionality. For example, Fibrum does not have lens adjustment, and the price is set at 6,490 rubles.

However, there is an important nuance here: along with the Fibrum model, the user receives an annual subscription to 28 VR applications, including 26 games. But Hiper provides a promo code for two weeks of access to the same set (plus another week you get when you sign up as a bonus). Three weeks is enough to figure out which games you really need and buy them, spending a total of much less than the price difference between Fibrum Pro and Hiper VRX. We will return to the software issue later.

Image quality

The information materials indicate the parameters of the lenses - ∅34 mm for the younger model and ∅42 mm for all the others. But in reality there is no serious difference in the image between them. The viewing angle is slightly different, but it cannot be said that this seriously affects the impression. In all helmets, the borders of the image are visible, but one cannot complain that the view appears as if through a window. Everything is visible normally, and this fully applies to the cheapest model. You won’t feel any fundamental qualitative difference in the image between Hiper VRS for 1190 rubles and Hyper VRX for 2990 rubles. In both cases it is quite decent. Of course, provided that you do not need to adjust the lenses and adjust their location to suit your vision.

Another thing is that the quality of the content itself is still very far from ideal. Thus, the graphics in Fibrum projects, which we get access to when purchasing Hiper glasses, are more typical for simple casual games than for serious gaming applications. Angular textures, primitive effects... This is compounded by a lack of resolution, even when using a smartphone with a 2560x1440 screen (and even more so with Full HD). However, it’s just a matter of time - it’s possible that after some time higher resolutions will become the norm in flagship smartphones. For now we have to be content with what we have.

Software

As we noted above, when you purchase a Hiper helmet, you get 14 days (actually 21 days) free access to 28 Fibrum applications, as well as a 50 percent discount on the purchase of an annual subscription. All Fibrum applications can be found in the App Store and Google Play Store using the word Fibrum.

After downloading the application, you may run it several times, but then this warning will appear.

Then you will need to register on the fibrum.net website, linking your smartphone to your account and entering a promo code. Then you will be able to use the application for two weeks, and at the end of this period, buy it at half the price.

Basically, the applications are cute, but rather simple attractions: roller coasters, walks to various exotic places, and the like. But there are also some very good games: for example, Zombie Shooter VR.

Or Space Stalker VR.

In addition, you can download a virtual cinema, but it is very inconvenient in terms of controlling movie playback.

It’s worth mentioning here that from the point of view of gaming use, VR glasses that require a smartphone are very much inferior to more advanced solutions - HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Sony PlayStation VR. Although, of course, the prices here are not comparable. So we can say right away: gamers should pay attention to devices from HTC, Oculus and Sony. On the other hand, all other types of content (360-degree photos and videos, 360-degree panoramas in Google Street View, etc.) look quite decent even on such inexpensive devices.

So if gaming use is not your main concern, and your main task is just to try what VR is, then the models described above are the optimal solution.

Impressions and conclusions

Hiper has introduced an excellent and very affordable line of VR glasses for use with smartphones. The cheapest model costs only 1,190 rubles, but offers quite decent image quality and a good body (although not without its drawbacks, so it’s unlikely to be used for a long time without interruption). The most expensive model in the line sells for 2,990 rubles and offers the same range of capabilities and quality of materials that we are used to seeing in devices one and a half to two times more expensive.

In addition, all Hiper glasses come with a promo code for 14 days of access to the Fibrum catalog of VR applications (this is the most representative set at the moment). If the user wants to purchase annual access to the applications he likes, he can take advantage of a 50 percent discount.

To summarize, we admit that in terms of price and quality ratio, the entire range of Hiper VR glasses seems very successful to us, and we recommend paying attention to these models to those users who wanted to touch VR, but are not ready to spend any serious money on a newfangled entertainment.

Reviews

Dmitry, 16 years old:

I was given these glasses for the New Year. Having put them on, I was completely immersed in the virtual world. I was very impressed by the quality of the picture and the ability to control the game with eye movement. I spent 6 hours in the game and didn’t notice how the time flew by.

Ivan, 30 years old:

I bought virtual glasses for my daughter. At first she was happy about the gift, but then she began to complain of pain in her neck . He says his eyes get tired quickly. Doesn't play for more than three hours. She was very impressed by the complete immersion into the game world. I also tried it once and couldn’t tear myself away for three hours.

Vladimir, 24 years old:

I bought virtual glasses for myself to take my mind off my problems in the evenings. soon regretted the purchase . I just couldn’t adjust the clamps comfortably, and the device kept sliding to the side. I was dissatisfied with the ventilation. The face sweats a lot and you have to periodically remove the device to wipe off the sweat.

Hiper VRS virtual reality helmet

This device is the basic model of the Hiper VR helmet. The cheapest and therefore the simplest. In appearance, it is somewhat similar to the first versions of the Oculus Rift. The Hiper VRS virtual reality helmet has the smallest lenses in the entire line - 33.5 millimeters. The material that fits to the face is foam rubber, and the smartphone is held using suction cups. In general, the Hiper VRS virtual reality helmet copes with its functionality, but there are not enough stars in the sky.

conclusions

Hiper virtual reality helmet, any of the models has a right to exist. Its purchase will not cause the wildest disappointment. However, it does not provide any significant advantages. It's one of countless Google Cardboard clones that fail to offer anything special. Suitable as a basic virtual reality device. You can buy and use, but you can also look for something cheaper, tested by time and people.

Hiper VRX virtual reality helmet

At the moment, this is the most advanced model in the line of virtual reality helmets for smartphones from Hiper. Having a cost equal to three basic helmets, the new product did not add much in functionality. The only innovation in the design compared to previous models is a magnetic button that allows you to control virtual reality games and a smartphone without a virtual reality joystick. By the way, the idea for the button was also taken from Google Cardboard. Also, the mounting location for the smartphone has undergone changes. Unlike the previous model, instead of a latch, a helium mat is used that presses the device tightly. However, the functionality is clearly not fully tested. After reading reviews on the hiper virtual reality helmet, you can find out that with glass covers this mount does not work well.

Some retail outlets offer a Fibrum Premium Club card as a gift in the Hiper VRX virtual reality helmet, which gives access to games from Fibrum for 14 days. To be honest, it's not worth it. Games from Fibrum are of average quality, not representing anything incredible. And they all have basic demo access, so you can get acquainted with them anyway. And there are tons of free virtual reality games for smartphones.
