How to run a file in windows
On the Windows operating system, you can run the jar file using special programs. Let's list the main options.

How to unpack Jar?
Almost any archiver can open such files, let’s look at the most popular ones.
WinRAR
In the WinRAR application the procedure is as follows:
- Open the program. file ” menu tab open archive ” submenu.
- Among the files on the PC, we look for the desired Java archive and select it with the mouse. Click on the “ open ” button.
- In the open window, select all the elements and right-click on them, in the menu that appears, select the “ extract to specified folder ” tab.
- In the new window, select the path for unpacking and click “ OK ”.

7-Zip

- Open the archiver window. We find the required file, select it with the left mouse button and click the “ extract ” button in the panel at the top.

- Let's launch the application.

How to run via command line?
Before launching the command line in Windows OS, you need to specify the settings for working with Java elements. To do this, right-click on “ My Computer ” and select the “ Properties ” tab. Next, go to “ Advanced system settings ” - “ Environment variables ”.

In the “ System Variables ” tab, you need to create the “ JAVA_HOME ” variable with the value “<path to the bin folder of the installed java application>” (for example, “ D:\travel2Ukraine\jdk\bin ”). The same link must be entered into the already existing new Path variable after “;”. After the completed operations, everything is saved and the command line is launched.
In the console, we replace the directory with jar using the CHDIR command:
C:\Users\username> CHDIRC:\Users\username\Documents\travel2Ukraine\dist\
To launch a Java application, enter “ java -jar <jar-file name> <login parameters> ”. Press the “ Enter ” key.

How to open a JAR file?
Problems accessing JARs can be caused by various reasons. On the other hand, the most common problems associated with Java Archive Format files are not complex. In most cases, they can be resolved quickly and effectively without the help of a specialist. The list below will guide you through the process of resolving your issue.
Step 1: Download and Install Java Runtime Environment
Problems opening and working with JAR files are most likely due to the lack of proper software that is compatible with JAR files on your computer. This problem can be resolved by downloading and installing # RECOMMENDED # or other compatible program such as Web browser, WinZip, Eclipse. A complete list of programs grouped by operating system can be found above. If you want to download the Java Runtime Environment installer in the most secure way, we recommend that you visit the site and download it from the official repositories.
Step 2: Make sure you have the latest Java Runtime Environment installed
If you still have problems opening JAR files even after installing the Java Runtime Environment , you may have an outdated version of the software. Check the developer's website to see if a newer version of the Java Runtime Environment is available. Sometimes software developers introduce new formats to replace existing ones with new versions of their applications. This may be one of the reasons why JAR files are not compatible with the Java Runtime Environment. All file formats that were handled perfectly by previous versions of this program should also be opened using the Java Runtime Environment.
Step 3: Assign Java Runtime Environment to JAR Files
If the issue was not resolved in the previous step, you should link the JAR files to the latest version of Java Runtime Environment installed on your device. The next step shouldn't be a problem. The procedure is simple and largely system independent
Change default application in Windows
- Right-click on the JAR file and select "Open with option".
- Next, select the Select another app option and then use More apps to open the list of available apps.
- The last step is to select the Find another application on this... option and specify the path to the folder where the Java Runtime Environment is installed. Now all that remains is to confirm your choice by selecting Always use this application to open JAR files
and clicking OK.
Change default application on Mac OS
- Right-click on the JAR file and select Information.
- Go to the Open with section. If it's closed, click the title to access the available options.
- Select Java Runtime Environment and click Change for all...
- If you followed the previous steps, a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with a JAR extension
. Then click the Forward button to complete the process.
Step 4: Make sure the JAR file is complete and free of errors
If the problem still occurs after following steps 1-3, check whether the JAR file is valid. Problems opening a file can arise for various reasons.
Make sure the JAR is not infected with a computer virus
If the JAR is indeed infected, malware may be blocking it from opening. Scan the JAR file and your computer for malware or viruses. Is the JAR file infected with malware? Follow your antivirus software's instructions.
Make sure the JAR file is complete and free of errors
If the JAR file was sent to you by someone else, ask that person to send you the file. It is possible that the file was not properly copied to the data store and is incomplete and therefore cannot be opened. When downloading a file with a JAR extension from the Internet, an error may occur resulting in an incomplete file. Try downloading the file again.
Check if the user logged in has administrator rights.
Some files require elevated permissions to open them. Log in using an administrator account and see if that solves the problem.
Make sure the system has enough resources to run the Java Runtime Environment
If your system is under havy load, it may not be able to handle the program that you use to open files with a JAR extension. In this case, close other applications.
Check if you have the latest operating system and driver updates
Up-to-date system and drivers not only make your computer more secure, but can also solve problems with the Java Archive Format file . JAR files may work correctly with updated software that fixes some system errors.
