Google Play is not supported on your device - how to fix it

The Android operating system for tablets, mobile phones, and TV is the most widespread on earth, and this is due to a considerable number of advantages - reasonable cost of gadgets, a wide variety of games and applications, reliability and ease of use. But the system is still imperfect, and users periodically encounter errors and bugs. One of them may occur when you try to download an application or games from the Play Market, and the error “Not supported on this device” is displayed on the display.

Check your network connection

Before you begin your search, check that your Internet connection is working. The easiest way to do this is to test it in other applications. For example, open any page in Safari or send a message in iMessage.

If the problem really is with the network connection, then as soon as it is restored, the application download will continue from the point where it left off. If other applications function normally, proceed to the second method.

Restart the download

Sometimes users accidentally click on the icon of an application that has not yet been downloaded and it stops. This is very easy to understand, since the status of the icon will indicate “Pause”. Just click on the icon again to start the download again. And even if the download was not paused, but simply frozen, such a restart can help and the download of the application will continue.

If tapping on the icon doesn't do anything, wait a while and then try again. If there is no result, move on to the next method.

Reasons for blocking applications

Different sets of applications are available for residents of different countries. Those programs that your friends and relatives living abroad use may not be available to you even if you have the same smartphones. Regional restrictions are not very pleasant, but they exist for a number of reasons.

  • Developer Goals

    Typically, software developers target a specific audience. Sometimes they care about users’ age, gender, education, and so on. When they upload an app to the store, they can choose which countries their product will be available for download in. Due to certain factors (for example, language and cultural characteristics, profitability, trends, lifestyle), a programmer may believe that his application will be better promoted only in certain regions. Accordingly, unpromising markets will be excluded.

  • Developer budget

    Large companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook can make their applications available to the whole world: they have the funds for high-quality translation and a large support team. Small firms and individual developers cannot afford this luxury, so they either release their products in English (for international access) or distribute it only in their home region with local language support. But if the company’s revenues grow and the application turns out to be in demand, the geography of availability will expand.

  • Test Goals

    Often, developers test applications in small markets or specific regions before releasing a stable build globally. Thanks to this approach, they can detect and quickly fix problems with the interface, compatibility, etc. If the app is not available in your country, chances are it is in testing phase and after some time you will be able to download it without any tricks.

  • Legal regulation

    Potential legal issues are another reason why access to an app may be blocked in a certain country. If local legislation restricts or does not approve of the developer’s activities, then the company will not want unnecessary problems and will exclude an unfriendly country at the stage of uploading the application to the store.

  • Pricing

    Pricing policies may also result in your country being excluded from the supported list. The developer may be led to such a decision by the inability to implement paid subscriptions or an in-app purchase system.

Is it possible to bypass regional restrictions?

Now you know why some applications are blocked in your country, and you are probably wondering: is there any way to bypass this ban? Yes, you can. There are several ways:

Bypassing restrictions through the content store

Despite geographic restrictions set by developers, some stores (such as the Play Store) allow users to switch the country in their profile and download unsupported APKs. To change your country in the Play Store: • Go to the Play Store; • Open settings; • Select “Account”; • Specify a new country in the “Country and Profiles” menu. Before doing this, you need to find out in which countries the desired application is distributed so as not to make a mistake when choosing a location. This method works with some restrictions: • You can change the country in the Play Store once every 365 days; • New settings are applied within 48 hours.

Using a VPN

Virtual private networks (VPNs) are used for many purposes, including to bypass regional blocks. You will need to install the VPN mobile app (we previously wrote about the 10 best VPN services), change your location in it to a supported region, and then go to the Play Store page to download the program. Before using a VPN, you need to force quit the Play Store and clear its cache. This is done in the smartphone application settings. You can only use a VPN to bypass geo-blocks on the Play Store if you want to download a free APK: attempting to make a purchase through a fake location may result in Google blocking your account.

Reboot your iOS device

Rebooting can help fix many errors, including application failure to load. Simply press and hold the Home and the Power . As soon as the  logo appears, release both buttons, wait until your iPhone or iPad turns on and check for stuck downloads.

If the application continues to download, everything is fine; if not, return to the App Store and try downloading the application again. If it freezes again, move on to the next method.

What to do if your phone does not support the application

An error occurred in the Google Play Services application - how to fix it

How to fix the "Not supported on your Google Play device" error:

  • using a VPN connection;
  • downloading and installing the application from other sources;
  • changing the mobile operator ID;
  • editing the build.prop file;
  • using programs.

The implementation of each method has its own characteristics, which is why it is strongly recommended that you familiarize yourself with each step-by-step algorithm.

Rebooting the mobile device

If, for example, you previously had no difficulties installing this application on your device, then perhaps the cause was a simple system failure. To solve the problem, you can force reboot the device.

How to reboot your Android smartphone

To reboot, you need to press and hold the power and power keys until the available options appear on the screen. Among them you need to select “Reboot”.

Important! After a short period of time, the device will start up and you can check its functionality.

Using Third Party Applications

A third-party program called Market Helper can help fix the problem. It is intended for mobile devices with root rights, that is, superuser rights.

For your information! During the operation of the utility, the program code changes the system identifier of the device so that the store sees a more well-known and, most likely, compatible phone instead.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. Download and install the Market Helper application on your mobile device from the official website of the developers or other trusted sources.
  2. Open the application and, among the available options, select the type of device you are using (smartphone or tablet), and also indicate the make and model, country, and mobile operator.
  3. Tap on the “Activate” button and wait until the new settings are applied.
  4. Log in to your Google account; you don’t need to change anything in the settings here.
  5. Try to install applications that were previously unsupported.

Using a third-party Market Helper utility

Important! To return to the original settings, the user must click on “Restore”, then click on “Activate” or simply reboot the device.

Enabling Google account

Another fairly common problem with the program not working correctly is spontaneous account deactivation. To try to solve the problem, it is recommended:

  1. Go through the path on your mobile device: “Settings” - “Applications”.
  2. In the context menu, tap on “System applications”.
  3. Go to “Google Accounts” (mostly these services are among the first available).
  4. If the option is deactivated, it must be enabled.

How to enable Google accounts through smartphone settings

Note! Additionally, experts recommend checking the system processes of all services from Google Play. They are on the same list.

Editing the build.prop file

You can do the same thing as the Market Helper program manually. To do this, you will need to edit the build.prop file, entering the name and model of another gadget into it.

The step-by-step instructions look like this:

  1. Install any file manager on your gadget, for example, Total Commander, ES Explorer or Root Explorer. Launch the program and activate access to root directories through the settings.
  2. At this stage, the user must go to the “System” folder and among the available files find the one called “build.prop”. You should keep a backup copy of it in a safe place.
  3. Open "build.prop" as a text file using the built-in editor.
  4. The value of the lines “ro.product.manufacturer” and “ro.product.model” will need to be changed to the name of more well-known phone brands and models.
  5. Now you need to go to “Settings” - “Application Manager” - “Google Play Market”, open information about it and alternately click on the “Clear data” and “Clear cache” buttons.

Solving the problem by editing the build.prop file

Important! Finally, the user needs to restart the mobile device and try again to install the specific application.

Reset Google Play settings

Many services and applications often stop functioning or do so incorrectly due to a full cache. To solve the problem, you need to clear the storage of debris. To do this, in the “Applications” section you need to find the Play Market program and alternately click on both the “Clear cache” and “Erase data” buttons. If you wish, you can deactivate the update.

Reset Google Play settings

Important! For the changes to take effect, the mobile device must be restarted.

Using a VPN

To bypass this error on your mobile device and download an incompatible program, you can additionally download any VPN client to your gadget, and then change the country. It is possible that Google Play considers a different IP address and the problem will be resolved.

Enabling the Boot Manager

Quite often, in an attempt to free up as much RAM and internal memory as possible, users disable or delete programs, which negatively affects the performance of the entire operating system. In this case we are talking about the “Download Manager”. You can find the option in the list of system processes to make sure it is enabled.

Activating the Download Manager

Alternative way to download APK file

If problems arise, the user has the opportunity to download the installation file independently. To complete this process, you will need to use special services on the Internet:

  • ARK-DL;
  • ARK Downloader.

When using the first service, it is enough to copy the URL of the page with the program in the Play Market. After this, you need to replace the play.google.com domain with apk-dl.com. Next, you need to go to a new address, where you will need to tap on the “Start Download” button.

Using services to download APK files

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the application

Sometimes deleting an application that is not yet downloaded and starting the download again can help. If after rebooting the application was not cleared, try deleting it manually. To do this, tap and hold on the icon until they start swaying, click on the “cross” in the upper left corner of the stuck application icon and confirm deletion.

If the application has been deleted, try installing it again. If nothing happens and the icon still remains on the screen, proceed to the next step.

Sign out of your iTunes account and restart your iOS device

If all else fails, try logging out of your iTunes account. This should stop any content downloads in progress on your iPhone or iPad. Additionally, it is advisable to restart your device before attempting to download the application again. Signing out of your iTunes account is quite simple:

  • Open the App Store on the Featured .
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the button with your Apple ID.
  • From the pop-up menu, select Sign Out .
