My Flow in Opera - how to synchronize browsers?

After publishing a review of the new Opera Touch browser , I decided that it was worth discussing in more detail the procedure for enabling synchronization for the successful operation of the new service “My Flow” . Since I hope for the further development of the browser, I think it would not be superfluous to learn about this now, so I’ll tell you about it in detail.

  • How do I enable synchronization for My Flow?
  • How do I disable synchronization for My Flow?
  • My Flow is missing from the sidebar
  • That's all!

How do I enable synchronization for My Flow?

As I wrote earlier , there is nothing complicated . We will need a full version of Opera installed on a personal computer running any operating system and Opera Touch installed on a smartphone.

  1. First, let's make sure that the "My Flow" button is active in the Opera sidebar. If it is missing, then right-click on the sidebar and check the box we need .
  2. Next, you need to left on the arrow labeled “My Flow” and wait for the settings menu for this service to open.
  3. In the “Connection” , in the “Add phone” , find the “+Add” right -click on it . After this, Opera will create a QR code that we need to scan.
  4. To do this, take your smartphone , open the pre-installed program Opera Touch , hold your finger on FAB until the action menu and move your finger to the left, to the icon in the form of a square enclosed between the corners . This way we will launch the scanner .
  5. the QR code shown on the computer screen indicated in the Opera Touch scanner . Synchronization will occur within 1-2 seconds , after which both devices will report successful completion by the appearance of checkmarks .

Opera introduced a new mobile browser Opera Touch

Internet Internet software

04/25/2018, Wed, 13:49, Moscow time, Text: Vladimir Bakhur

Opera announces the release of two new products - a new mobile browser, Opera Touch, and a new version of the Opera browser for computers.

Opera Touch is designed for those who are used to using the Internet on the move. The new mobile browser easily synchronizes with the updated desktop version of Opera without the need to enter a password or login.

“Today we are introducing a new way to experience the Internet, in which users receive a continuous stream of content on all their devices,” said Christian Kolondra , executive vice president and head of Opera Browsers.

According to an Opera study conducted among American smartphone users, 86% of respondents prefer to use the mobile Internet while holding a smartphone in one hand while being engaged in another activity, be it traveling on public transport, shopping, walking or eating. At the same time, mobile browsers that exist today often require the use of both hands to enter a particular search query or web address, which can be quite uncomfortable.

Opera Touch solves this problem. The browser's innovative navigation is designed to be easy to use with one hand. This makes browsing the Internet even more convenient.

“We've grouped the key functions so they're always within reach. This means that, unlike most other browsers, you can easily and conveniently surf the Internet and search for something on the web while on the move,” said Maciej Kociemba , Product Manager at Opera.

The first thing a user will notice in Opera Touch is that the browser opens immediately in search mode, allowing you to immediately find information of interest on the Internet. After entering a query, Opera Touch will not require the user to make any additional clicks to start the search.

Opera Touch also supports voice search and allows you to scan QR and barcodes. These features make the browser even more useful for users on the go.

At the bottom of the browser there is a FAB (Fast Action Button) quick access button for the most convenient operation of Opera Touch with one hand. This button is always on the browser screen and provides direct access to recent tabs and the search function. Moreover, it allows the user to view all the features of the browser with a single click of a finger.

According to an Opera study, 69% of smartphone users do not use the sync feature in their browser. In addition, 65% of users, in order to save a link to a site or return to it later on their computer, send the link to their email or to themselves as a message. This is because the synchronization process is often too complex and requires up to 13 different steps.

After scanning the QR code using Opera Touch, the user has access to the Flow function, with which you can share links, images, videos and notes between your devices. Flow is available in Opera Touch and the updated version of the Opera browser for desktop. And it does not require any logins or passwords.

Every time content is added to Flow on one device, the same content instantly appears on the other device. Flow uses end-to-end encryption and works regardless of the operating system or device manufacturer.

The Opera browser for desktop has also been updated. The new version synchronizes with the Opera Touch browser using the Flow function. It also features instant search, allowing you to quickly find information online and manage open tabs. Just press the ALT+Space key combination or the corresponding button on the sidebar to start the search.

The Opera Touch browser is available for Android and will soon be available for iOS.

How do I disable synchronization for My Flow?

Doing this is even easier than connecting, but disconnecting can only be done through Opera on a personal computer, in the menu in which we added the phone. You just need to click on the gear in the upper right corner, since when the “My Flow” service is active, the settings window will be hidden.

That's all. Also, to clear the My Flow service feed, you can use the functions below: the first one simply clears, and the second clears and disables synchronization.

Opera Touch - Strange browser from Opera

03.06.2018

  • Opera Touch Android application, version: 1.5, price: Free

What happens if a serious company starts to suffer from nonsense and reinvent the wheel? Sometimes, of course, something works out, but much more often the Russian folk proverb works - not the one about AvtoVAZ, hands and a damned place, but a more general one: “They don’t look for good from a beaver.”

Unfortunately, not everyone knows about our traditions, expressed in folk wisdom... So, Opera Software AS decided, instead of developing its own browser (but there were sound ideas, like Opera VPN), to create some kind of “evolutionary Internet browser” .

So, Opera Touch

.

As planned, the program should provide the user with unprecedented ease of intuitive use! Remember, Windows was probably supposed to become even faster, even more stable, even more reliable, but in the end we got Millennium...

In the case of Opera, the situation is similar - there should be something new. Well, why go far - we abandoned the navigation bar with the “Update” and “Back” buttons. Now, instead of it, there is a floating button that periodically disappears from the screen (for some reason I can’t shake the feeling of déjà vu).

If you press for a long time, a context menu will appear with the same “Back” and so on, and there are round tabs around it. Without titles - you can find out which is which only intuitively.

True, only four fit; if there are more, three are displayed, and a separate circle will bring up a panel with all open tabs.

The main difficulty is not even that access to the necessary elements now occurs in two steps, but that the menu closes as soon as we remove our finger. It turns out that to switch to another tab we need to: click on the button; holding your finger, find out the desired site by the icon; Without lifting your finger from the screen, move it to the desired icon. The same procedure with opening a new page or updating the current one.

What doesn’t add to the pleasure of using the program is that if you simply click on the button, you will be taken to the main page of the program. Yes, I was reading the news, the laws were different, and in great thought I pressed the button and left the page. Next, another feat awaits me: guessing the right icon...

It is much easier to click on the “All Tabs” icon, then a very pleasant and attractive panel will open.

The main page is just as interesting - Opera positions the browser as designed for one-handed control.

But the same address bar is at the top; Nowadays even 5-inch phones are rare, and on an elongated six-inch phone there’s no chance of reaching there with one hand.

Yes, in Opera Touch there are no bookmarks as such - visited sites are added to the main page (I don’t understand either - who needs bookmarks with their cloud storage? There is a wonderful “Home Page”).

The more often we visit a site, the higher it rises. Literally. If you can reach the bottom icons, then the most popular “places” will be at the very top! Yes, one-handed control... definitely...

Yes, there is a branded super feature - Flow! This is a kind of chat between a computer and a smartphone (one computer and one smartphone). So, if you click on the desired icon on the site, the page address will be transferred to the computer (or vice versa), then by going to the chat window on the computer and clicking on the link, we will open it.

As for me, something strange - cloud synchronization of open tabs was invented a long time ago, and without the need for additional clicks - it synchronizes automatically. For example, implementation from Yandex.Browser.

No, in Opera, in addition to simply transmitting links, you can also transmit text (I thought - commands and search queries, but no - only text), although the meaning of this is extremely difficult for me to understand.

But what’s much worse is that the new browser completely lacks support for extensions. I use some of them in Yandex.Browser (yes, it is fully compatible with Opera extensions), but not in the Opera program...

And in general, there is very little useful - an ad blocker (it seems to be even good - everything was cut out on Helpix.ru), but there is no way to put the site as an exception - it’s either all or nothing. And by the way, I don’t want to block advertising on some sites, maybe. But there is protection against illegal mining - this already looks like a diagnosis.

But the worst thing about all this for me personally is the lack of transfer of scalable text. I won’t talk about reading mode or adjusting the size of images, but moving text is a necessity, but not for Opera Touch.

How do you like this subtlety that you can only get to “History” from the main page? Yeah, we press the button - we exit from the current window to the main window, there we “swipe” to history. Why so many unnecessary actions - you could have included it in the context menu, instead of the same “add to the main screen” (this does not mean the application screen, but the phone launcher screen).

Opinion

Why am I doing all this anyway... I usually install the program, if I don’t like it, I delete it and that’s it. But all this “innovative interface” and so on from a respected brand, a lot of positive, even laudatory, reviews (they were the ones who lured me in, in fact) against the backdrop of a program completely unsuitable for use - this is too much. In my opinion, Opera Touch is not even worth downloading, let alone its role as an everyday Internet browser.

My Flow is missing from the sidebar

Due to recent updates to the Opera browser on a personal computer, some users may have experienced that this function is no longer displayed in the sidebar. There is no need to worry, since the developers simply removed it from the eyes of those who do not need it.

To return My Flow to your sidebar list, you simply need to enable it in your browser settings. To do this, click on the “Menu” button in the upper left corner and select “Settings”. Next, you need to go to the “Advanced - Security” section, find “My Flow” and enable this function. After this, the option to use it will appear in the sidebar of the browser.

How can I disable the My Flow add-on?

Immediately after disabling the function, the storage icon in the browser is deleted. For this purpose, you can use two methods.

Designed for use on the go

Opera Touch allows you to surf the web with one hand. The Quick Action button is always on the browser screen and can be used to immediately open Quick Search. And if you hold and drag this button, you can go to recently opened tabs, refresh the page, close the current tab, or send it to your computer.
