The well-known tank action game World of Tanks has reached the PlayStation 4. PC owners know very well what a port is. But in the case of the popular Wargaming , the situation is somewhat different. Looking ahead, we can safely say that World of Tanks on the Sony console is a different game. Fans of multiplayer action games will certainly recognize the same tanks, the same hangar and gameplay. But a number of adaptations of systems for console users make the game feel like a new game.

The first thing that catches your eye is the visual design. Comparing the quality of graphics on PC and PlayStation 4 in this case is a little inappropriate, since many things look “new.” But we must admit that the graphics quality is better than on the Xbox One.

Already in the hangar it becomes clear that the graphics are at a very decent level. The developers tried to achieve photorealism, worked on the detailing of cars, reflections on surfaces and chrome skins. It must be said that you can purchase as many skins, emblems and inscriptions for gold as you like.

Each tank model is drawn with soul down to every detail. You don’t even mind exposing the roughness of the hull of a crisp, fresh-from-the-hangar tank to enemy shells—the hits are drawn perfectly.

How do developers choose the time to release?

They are guided by many factors at once. Firstly, it is important for them to know that their target audience will be able to immediately join the gameplay, so games are released less often during the holiday season, as well as in those months when work is usually busy and students are in session.

Secondly, for a successful release, developers try to compare their plans with announcements of potential competitors. For example, if we are talking about a shooter, then releasing it simultaneously with the new Battlefield or Call of Duty is not very reasonable.

Thirdly, the release date indicates the so-called deadline - the very point after which the game is ready. This means that it must be completed within the stated time frame. Alas, this does not always work out, and therefore the release date of the game may be shifted one or even several times.

In addition to this, the release of World of Tanks Console (World of Tanks: Mercenaries) on PC and consoles may differ - often developers try to release one version first, and only then move on to the next.

What is snow to us, what is heat to us, what is torrential rain to us...

In battle, regardless of the model, bushes are crushed under the tank, leaves sway in the wind, and the abundance of details pleases the eye. And all this in a varied wrapper of changing time of day and weather conditions. In rainy weather at night, you can directly enjoy the reflections of the moonlight. There's definitely no such thing on PC yet. At the same time, with all the innovations, the PlayStation 4 maintains a stable frame rate per second.

There is also a destruction system in the game. Whether it's a tree, a fence or a small residential building - all of this can be leveled to the ground. However, according to all the laws of physics, one cannot expect epic destruction. PlayStation 4 users will have to come to terms with the fact that in the game, destructible objects, including buildings, are inflatable and burst like balloons.

World of Tanks Console - all about the Mercenaries update

World of Tanks , perhaps the most successful game created on the territory of the former USSR, was initially perceived exclusively as a PC exclusive. But today it exists quite successfully on consoles, in particular on the PlayStation 4. Yes, the dynamics here are somewhat different, which is due to the control features on the console, but in the World of Tanks Console you can’t fight, upgrade, unlock new tanks and win battles. it's that simple.
The emphasis on scale and realism has not gone away, and success in battles here also depends primarily on the skill of the player himself, on his accuracy, ability to hit weak spots on enemy vehicles and position his tank so that it is difficult to hit. At the same time, the authors are trying to develop the console version as a full-fledged game with its own unique content that is not available on PC. The release of the latest update “Mercenaries” for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 is a clear and very convincing confirmation of this. We have already managed to evaluate it and are in a hurry to share our impressions.

Mercenaries against everyone, everyone, everyone

The main feature of update 4.5 is the appearance, in fact, of mercenaries, who represent a completely new nation with its own branch of equipment. Both the tanks and the mercenaries themselves, of course, are a completely fictitious thing, but this fits well into the alternative history setting, which is actively promoted and developed within the World of Tanks Console .
Let me remind you that the game has a set of unique story mini-campaigns - “War Chronicles”, which can be played alone or with friends. These are multi-mission scenarios set in an alternate universe where World War II lasted until 1948. With the release of “Mercenaries,” a new episode of “Military Chronicles” appeared, telling how several soldiers of fortune on tanks (among them there are comrades with the call signs Collector, Don Quixote and Borsch!) received from a secret agent the task of stealing nuclear materials from a secret Soviet American plant.

The episode consists of three parts, and in each of them you need to try very hard to win. Already in the first mission, where it is necessary to first weaken the security of the base by destroying the required number of tanks and turrets, and then cut off the railway connection and attack the enemy base, if possible eliminating the local captain, we are surrounded on all sides by superior enemy forces. And the whole episode threatens to become almost the most difficult in “Chronicles”, because here we are confronted by troops from both the USSR and the USA. You have to take advantageous positions and competently lead your allies so that they cover and help in time.

There are currently five new mercenary tanks available in the game, and five more will be added over the coming weeks and months.

“I made him out of what was there”

All Mercenaries are hybrid models assembled from parts and modules of other well-known tanks.
This is explained by the fact that mercenary detachments, they say, are forced to provide themselves with everything they need, obtaining modules in battles and purchasing parts from companies specializing in buying surplus from the armies of different countries. As a result, we got truly unique armored vehicles. Among them there is, for example, the Tier V light tank Stubbs, capable of overcoming even difficult terrain and delivering a surprise strike, and the Tier VII Bigtop medium tank, combining mobility and firepower. And the Tier VII heavy vehicle Slapjack can deceive the enemy with its small size and rain down a hail of shells on him.

All this equipment does not need to be researched, as is the case with other nations; in order to open it, you have to complete special contracts. For each car there is a separate contract, and it must be completed within a certain time. Moreover, this is not just something in the spirit of “kill five enemy tanks and get a reward” - each “challenge” takes place in several stages. But the reward is worth it: we get a new mercenary vehicle, a slot in the hangar, as well as a unique commander with already learned skills. Moreover, special attention is paid to the crew and their abilities - in fact, in “Mercenaries” the fighters are equated with heroes.

Edition expanded, corrected and improved

Battles in World of Tanks Console: Mercenaries take place on new maps, which are modified versions of already known locations. Based on surveys and research, the authors identified the most popular cards among players and adapted them to Mercenaries , giving them a look more appropriate for their era.

For example, based on the “Quiet Coast” map, the “Kitimat” location was created, where, among the vast expanses of Canada, a joint Soviet-American enterprise operates, producing highly enriched uranium from radioactive ore. And the famous map “Malinovka” has turned into “Junkyard” - there is a warehouse of materials and equipment that supplies mercenary squads with important spare parts.

With the release of the update, many things in the game were added and improved. The interface has been updated - icons and images now have a worn effect. The hangar began to look like a mercenary camp, and on the loading screen it was possible to immediately go to the store, read the news, play a mini-game, or submit a bug report.

At the same time, new music is now playing in the hangar and on the loading screen, created by the famous composer Inon Zur (he composed soundtracks for a bunch of games, including Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal , Crysis and Dragon Age: Origins ), - it was recorded with Prague Symphony Orchestra. And, by the way, now each map has its own musical theme.

New sounds were also recorded. External and internal equipment now produces rumbles and knocks, and track sounds are played based on travel speed, track speed differences, and other factors.

Finally, it is encouraging that the authors continue to catch errors and correct even the smallest of them - for example, correcting the color of the Mongolia flag. In general, the list of fixes is huge, and now the game, judging by it, should become even better, more beautiful and more realistic.

“Mercenaries” is an excellent example of how it is possible and necessary to stimulate interest in a well-known game that seems to be incapable of surprising anything.

Good old gameplay. Simplified version

World of Tanks on PlayStation 4 is the same tank action with the same leisurely trench warfare, where the successful work of the team is the key to success. The user interface has become a little poorer for the sake of controller users. The controls have also changed, which may seem very inconvenient to PC gamers. However, it will be easy to get used to the controller, especially for those who are used to handling them.

The physical model of shooting and driving remains the same. Tanks still skid when turning at speed, the law of inertia still works. A slightly modified sight in the console version shows when and how best to shoot in order to penetrate the enemy. It may seem that this made the game more arcade-like, but do not forget that it is a little more difficult to control the sticks than with a mouse.

Once upon a time, PC players were proud of their exclusives, but they began to be betrayed. Every year, more and more F2P projects that were only on PC are smoothly moving to consoles. After all, you must admit that lying on the sofa in front of the TV is always more pleasant to play than hunched over in front of the monitor, even with a mouse in your hand.

Wargaming decided not to sit on the sidelines and get involved in the development of consoles. World of Tanks game has finally been released on all new generation consoles. At first it was the X-One, and now the time has come for the Japanese with their PS4 .

At the same time, the developers decided not to port the game, but gave a small branch of Wargaming from America the task of creating a game from scratch using a new engine in the shortest possible time. They turned out even better than we expected.

The combat mechanics themselves remained untouched. Why reinvent the wheel if it already exists and functions well. You just need to adapt it to gamepads. Since there was no port from the PC version, everything was made for the gamepad from the very beginning, as a result it is very convenient to play, you don’t need to get used to it for months, like with the same shooters (Titanfall or the latest Call of Duty), where dynamics in the battle predominate.

In World of Tanks, you don’t really need to rush into battle: sit out in the bushes, move little by little from one house to another, look for a position where you don’t even need to move, but only control the turret. You get used to all this from the first minutes of the battle. And these battles at the beginning are purely against artificial intelligence.

If we compare the graphics, then on “soap” consoles: it’s raining, the blue sky is obscured by clouds, a thunderstorm is heard and visible, and drops are flowing down the screen. Moreover, every blade of grass, bush or tree is capable of moving in the wind. But , unfortunately, this has not yet been brought PC In the end, the “soap” wins. Here you are immediately given models of all tanks and all maps with HD textures.

What really can’t be said about the content: at the start, only three development branches are available to us: the USSR, Germany and America. On the one hand, this is correct, this game has not been around for the first year, and if you add everything at once, there will be some problems with balance. Well, as they say, “a little bit of a good thing,” otherwise we’ll get drunk some more.

So far there are plenty of cards - there are 20 of them, and half of them have different weather conditions. It’s snowing on some, raining on others, and some just turned off the sun. Well, how could it be without exclusivity, naturally temporary, in the form of two maps: a large desert called “Scorpion Gorge” and the ruined city of “Ruinberg”.

There is no way to pass by the hangar, about which there are two opinions: some believe that it is very convenient, everything is intuitive; and the other is that nothing is clear, it takes time to figure everything out, it’s better on a PC, “azaza”... I join the first camp, I don’t see any difficulties in controlling it, although the gamepad is not my native one. Everything in the hangar remained the same as before. You can take missions, research a new tank, buy it, attach new guns, tracks, and a turret to it, but not individually—everything here comes as a kit.

You can even bring a penny from your pocket. Donat has not undergone any changes, just like in the good old days, here you are allowed to buy a premium account, gold, change experience, etc.

At the end of my short review, I want to express my respect to the developers. They were given a task, and they completed it with an A plus.

The release of WoT on PS4 in some ways gave the game new life. If you have a console, why not download, because everything is free. You'll ride for a couple of evenings, and you never know, it will drag on. See you later!

Heavy cars for pumping

Several differences appeared in the hangar. For example, tank upgrades in the console version are presented in “packages” - sets of improvements consisting of several parts at once. The crew system and skill set have changed somewhat. However, they all remained the same, but in a different, more simplified and convenient wrapper.

The matchmaking system has improved. It's faster on PlayStation 4 due to the fact that all users load into matches at approximately the same speed. On PC, users of fast computers had to wait for owners of slower machines, which is simply not the case on PlayStation 4. It feels like the great Belarusian random has also learned to select opponents for battles more efficiently.

The communication system is worth mentioning separately. On PlayStation 4, text chat is completely absent for obvious reasons. It has been replaced by voice chat, so you can spam your comrades out loud. However, Russian-speaking users are most likely to play with a European audience. Due to the division of servers by continent, matches will include both English and French, as well as Germans and Spaniards. Therefore, it’s time to pick up a dictionary and learn the word “mother” in several more languages.

I attended an event dedicated to the fact that World Of Tanks was released on Playstation 4.

In general, the event itself happened a week ago - the online game was released as early as January 19 (just before students took exams). Perhaps this was a special project with our government, which announced that we do not have enough tankers, and we urgently need to make more of them.

But since I’m no longer studying at the institute, and I don’t have much time to play tanks, and I only have a Playstation 4 at work, and I still can’t beat the unfortunate Fallout 4, then get acquainted with how the game looks on I was able to use this console only last Friday.

The differences between the version and the XBox One port released back in the summer are minimal. In particular, there are two exclusive maps on Playstation 4, including Scorpion Gorge, the largest location in the entire game, and Ruinberg.

There are also a couple of exclusive tanks, in particular, the American T1E6-PS. And until April 30, anyone will be able to receive an elite Pz.Kpfw tank. IV Ausf. H, stylized after the anime Girls und Panzer.

The game also works on a free account, without the need to purchase PlayStation Plus. However, for its holders, the developers promised access to a premium package with the Pz.Kpfw light tank. II Ausf. J inside, as well as three days of premium account and discounts on various products in the store.

It also supports the ability to play remotely on PS Vita, if it suddenly occurs to someone.

Since the presentation included demo machines with WoT installed, I didn’t miss the opportunity to play around. On a large TV everything looks very, very decent, and moves very smoothly. Of course, World Of Tanks is not a very demanding game, but still.

Controlling with a gamepad seemed a little unusual to me at first, but then everything fell into place. After just 15 minutes it seemed more convenient to me than with a keyboard. Of course, I’m still a WoT player, but I appreciated Force Feedback’s work. In reality, you feel the unevenness of the ground, it’s easy to catch moments of hits.

Unfortunately, the Playstation version of WoT has its own servers and does not overlap with the PC version, just like in the version for XBox One. However, compared to XBox, online is very decent - more than 32,000 at its peak.

In general, be that as it may, if you are the happy owner of a Playstation 4 and play WoT, then it’s worth downloading and watching. Fortunately, you don’t have to pay to play. It's not even a "first dose" free, but it's even better. Pay extra only if you want something more.

Few cons

There is some weird camera quirk in arcade mode. When you move the camera in arcade mode and switch to “sniper” mode, the camera is not where we were looking, but where the gun was “looking” at a given moment in time. This introduces some inconvenience into the gameplay.

It’s also unusual to aim using the sticks on a gamepad; sometimes a few seconds are not enough to shoot accurately, and as a result, the opponent “takes out” us. Overall, gameplay feels slower than on PC.

Fresh Perks

The PS4 version of World of Tanks has acquired new perks:

  • holding your breath - our military equipment can submerge under water for a longer time;
  • high pain threshold – crew members are less likely to be injured;
  • airborne training – if a vehicle falls, the damage received is reduced;
  • hidden movement - our secrecy when moving increases;
  • muffled shot - the chances of being seen when firing are reduced;
  • field repair – the speed of track restoration increases.
