There is no need to be afraid; the situation is often easy to resolve on your own. So why doesn't Kaspersky start? What to do in this situation? Several of the most common causes and troubleshooting tips are presented to your attention.

Update

Modern Microsoft products love to offer their users updates. This is especially true for operating systems. So, for example, if you have Windows 7, then Update Center may offer you to upgrade to Windows 8. Or do it forcibly. And just after such a step, you can notice that Kaspersky does not start. Sometimes it’s not just this software that gets compromised.

What to do in this case? If you notice that the software refuses to work after updating the operating system, you can reinstall the program. This is a completely effective method that solves many problems without much hassle. So, don't miss it.

If you do not install Kaspersky Anti-Virus, this probably indicates that your computer is infected with a virus.

I had this problem on Windows XP SP2 when I tried to install Kaspersky version 7. The installation terminated with an error message: “ Error 1304

Error writing to file D:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0\avp_io32.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory." When trying to manually create a file named avp_io32.dll
on the disk, a message was displayed stating that the file could not be created - the virus was intercepting system access to the disk.
The virus was written very well - neither the task manager nor the advanced ProcessExplorer
showed any suspicious running processes. The virus files that were on the disk were also masked by the virus (I received this list later when I was disinfecting the disk):

A search in TotalCommander found these files, but it was impossible to go to the found file - it was not visible in the list. When I tried to reboot into protected mode, the system crashed into a BSOD blue screen.

What to do in such a situation? There are two simplest options - either remove the disk from the infected computer and cure it on a “clean”, uninfected computer, or, if there is no second computer, take another hard drive, install the operating system there, install an antivirus, connect the infected disk and cure it. I acted on the second option.

The virus spread through a flash drive (there may have been other ways) - on my flash drive were the files nideiect.com (the Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Bagle.qa virus) and autorun.inf (its loader, which is triggered when you insert a flash drive or try to opening it in Explorer).

Rollback

Kaspersky won't start? The first thing that can be suggested to the user, especially if you don’t want to go into details of such a phenomenon, is to perform a system rollback. Sometimes even errors that are harmless to the computer and invisible to us can have a negative impact on the software. That's why he refuses to work. It doesn’t matter what it is - a game, an application or an antivirus.

In principle, a system rollback helps in about 50% of cases. Usually the effectiveness depends on the actual problem. The more serious it is, the less chance of success. But it’s worth trying to perform a system rollback using standard tools that can restore Windows. They are in the Start menu: “All Programs”, “Accessories”. If this does not help, it is recommended to reinstall Kaspersky. Perhaps this option is most often used by users, regardless of the situation. It's always easier to get rid of the application and reinstall it than to understand the problem. But this is not a 100% guarantee that the situation will be resolved.

Conflict

Kaspersky anti-virus does not start for you? There can be many reasons for this phenomenon. And one of them is application conflict. This is especially true when you have several antiviruses on one computer. This shouldn't be surprising. After all, each system will “survive” its competitor. During this process, one antivirus may refuse to work. The same phenomenon can happen after installing some program. Just an internal application conflict.

What should I do? It's up to you to decide. But you will have to get rid of either malicious software or antivirus. If you have two of them, you need to disable one, or better yet, just delete it altogether. Only then will you be able to notice how Kaspersky’s work has resumed.

A little advice: never install multiple antivirus systems on your computer. They will constantly conflict, not to mention loading your computer. And then you will forget about the problem when Kaspersky does not start and does not work. If you have already chosen this antivirus, then use only it. Unless you can additionally install anti-spyware. For example, SpyHunter.

On the official website of the Kaspersky Antivirus developer there is only one recommendation for fixing the problem being discussed today and it is related to reinstalling the software.
