What to do if music does not play in Opera

Music is a very important part of my life, along with design and visual arts. My first job - as a sales consultant in a tent with cassettes and discs with music - boiled down to what all music services are doing now: offering and selling music.

I remember non-digital times - those in which there were no Last.fm and Apple Music, music had to be pumped out one track at a time, and one could only guess about the authenticity of the tags. I remember that it was worth finding out about the side project of a musician you liked or an entire band playing in your favorite genre.

The text was written in an attempt to muffle the suffering that I experience every time I use Yandex.Music. This is a critique of the existing design and product solutions that make the service what it is today. I hope that the thoughts voiced will find practical application or at least start a discussion.

Unfortunately, modern music services (and, in particular, Yandex.music) are not suitable for a person who is interested in music. And that's why.

Images

One of the first impressions that remain after using the Yandex music service is a strong emphasis on pictures. It would seem, why does a music service need such an abundance of images? The most interesting thing is that the pictures are searched by Yandex on the Internet, but it seems no one checks them to see if they correspond to reality, so sometimes instead of some musicians there are others, sometimes - covers of collections or albums, and sometimes - nothing at all. Intrusive round pictures with portraits are confusing and do not help you find anything - instead, it would be great to just see the names in large font.

Why such a strong emphasis on images? How about giving me my music a little earlier, instead of my avatar (I won't ask why I need an avatar on a music service)? How am I supposed to find someone on my artist list if there are more than 20 of them?

Reboot

Music not playing in Opera? The first reason for this behavior may be a normal system failure. Or computer overload. This usually happens when the operating system has been running without shutting down for a long time (several days or weeks). At such moments, many applications begin to slow down and glitch.

What to do if the music refuses to play in the browser? It is recommended to restart the application to access the Internet. Better yet, restart your computer. There is a chance that this will help. But you shouldn't get your hopes up. After all, most often the reasons why music does not play in Opera and other browsers are more serious.

Titles

One of the most noticeable and almost the most offensive jambs of Yandex.Music. It so happens that the names of some musical groups or performers coincide, sometimes partially, sometimes completely. For Yandex, unfortunately, this does not matter. For example, Whitey, whom I just remembered, has two out of five tracks (yes, he has five tracks in his discography) that do not belong to him, but to other artists with the same name.

But if you think that this problem only affects unpopular artists, then you are mistaken. This is the fate of any team with a common name.

Something is clearly wrong here.

Utility update

Why doesn't Yandex.Music work? It is possible that the utility needs to be updated. Or the files in the corresponding application have become corrupted and are now awaiting recovery.

You can do it this way:

1. Open the official page of the Yandex.Music service.
2. Download the extension for your Internet browser.
3. Install the update following the instructions of the initialization wizard.

Important: some browsers allow you to remove utilities and update them through the “Plugins” menu item. In the case of Chrome, you need to write chrome://plugins in the address bar, then find “Yandex.Music” and click on “Delete”. This technique will allow you to get rid of the old version of the utility.

Releases are a mess

One of the most annoying things about the Pit is the absolute chaos in Albums. Everything is here: singles, compilations, remixes, remastered versions of albums. Try going to the discography of your favorite band and quickly find a specific album there. Yandex.Music resembles a trash heap into which they dumped everything they found without understanding it.

You click on the “Shuffle” button (how else to play, if not) from Johnny Cash, and there plays a track in which it is not at all, but it is listed in the tags. Such shitty remixes, containing several performers whose music is not even used in them, are not uncommon. They sometimes come up in listening and hit the ears.

Details

Previously, the main “trump card” of a web browser was ease. But now Opera has become somewhat less stable (although this does not apply to all users), showing various kinds of problems from time to time. But she still has enormous popularity. And therefore we need to talk about how to confront problems. And in particular, what to do if Opera refuses to play sound. There are several ways to solve this problem.

Problems with Adobe Flash Player

Often this behavior is due to the fact that the web browser does not have the required plugin. To play Flash content (which sometimes includes music), you need a special plugin called Adobe Flash Player. Accordingly, it’s worth downloading it just in case. Because some sites have not yet abandoned it. And here are instructions on how to install the extension.

1. Launch a web browser and follow the link https://get.adobe.com/ru/flashplayer. This will open the download page.
2. We refuse all elements in the “Additional offer” .
3. Then simply click on the “Install Now” .
4. When the download is complete, open the flashplayer32pp_fa_install.exe .
5. Now close all running browsers and return to the installation window that appears.
6. In it, without changing any settings, click on “Next” .
7. Wait for the procedure to complete and click on “Finish” .
8. Just in case, restart your PC.

Now you can launch Opera and try to play music. If there is sound, then the problem was definitely in the plugin. If nothing has changed, then we should move on to the next point in our program.

Cache full

The browser cache usually stores data from all visited sites. They are needed to quickly load pages in case of repeated visits. However, this storage can grow to unimaginable sizes. And then the web browser begins to slow down and may not play music.

In general, it is recommended to clear your cache and history regularly. Only then will the browser work stably. The built-in tools of the web browser are used for cleaning. Here are detailed instructions telling you how and what to do.

1. First you need to launch Opera. This can be done using a button in the taskbar, a shortcut on the desktop, or an icon in the Start menu.
2. After that, click on the “Menu” , which is located in the upper left part of the window.
3. Next, in the list that appears, select “Settings” .
4. Then you need to click on the “Advanced” and “Security” in the left menu.
5. Now look for the “Clear browsing history” and click on it.
6. We repeat the cleaning settings, as in the picture below, and confirm the action.

The cleaning process will begin immediately. It will only take a few seconds. After this, be sure to restart your web browser. And only after the restart will it be possible to test his “musical abilities.” If this option does not help, then you should try another one.

Antivirus

Often, playback of music and various flash content may be blocked by a third-party antivirus program. From time to time, other Internet browser problems are associated with its operation, for example, the inability to access other sites, etc.

To verify the truth of this reason, you should temporarily deactivate the protection and try to turn on the sound in Opera again. As a rule, to do this, just click LMB on the antivirus icon in the Windows tray and select the disable option. For example, in the case of ESET Internet Security it looks like this:

In terms of time, it’s enough to set it for 10 minutes to have time to check everything. Now, after disabling all blocking programs, you can try to restart the Opera browser and try playing music. It is quite possible that after this it will play tracks normally. If not, then you should read the next chapter.

Checking your PC for viruses

If none of the above helped, then most likely there are viruses on the user’s computer. They can not only force Opera not to play specific content, but also cause much more serious problems that will affect the stability of the entire system.

Therefore, you need to get rid of malicious objects. And here again we should resort to the help of an antivirus. If it is already installed on your computer, then perform a standard virus scan.

We will analyze this procedure using ESET Internet Security as an example:

1. In the main program window, go to the “Computer Scan” .
2. Now click LMB on the tile that says “Advanced...” .
3. Activate the "Custom Scan" .
4. A window will appear asking you to select objects to scan. Here you need to check all the boxes except CD drives.
5. The final stage: click on the “Scan as admin” .

The computer scan will begin immediately. If during its course the antivirus finds malicious objects, they will be immediately deleted (sent to quarantine, from where they can be restored if desired). And at the end of the test, a log with the results will be displayed.

After scanning, you must restart your computer. And only after that you can check the functionality of the Opera browser. If the problem was due to viruses, then this option should definitely help.

Recovering system files

If there were viruses on your computer, they could very well significantly damage some operating system files required for the normal functioning of the web browser.

Sometimes for this reason, nothing happens when you start music in Opera. However, this problem can be solved. Moreover, using the tools of the Windows OS itself. Here are detailed instructions on how to restore system files:

1. Open the Start menu and click on the search area. is called using the combination Win + Q.
2. Enter the command line prompt .
3. Right-click on the corresponding result.
4. Then select the Run as administrator . It may be called a little differently, but the essence is clear.
5. After the console starts, run the command sfc /scannow by entering it there and then pressing Enter .

This command will start scanning Windows files. If something is missing, the system will restore it during the troubleshooting process. After the console shuts down, you will need to close all windows and restart your computer or laptop.

It is worth noting that such a check (together with restoration) can take from 5 to 10 minutes. But there is a high probability that after the restart Opera will work as expected. If this does not happen, then you need to move on to the next chapter.

Reinstalling the browser

The exact same situation happens if viruses manage to damage the files of the web browser itself. Then he may behave incorrectly. And there is only one way out: completely reinstalling it. There is nothing else to think about music.

But at the same time, it is advisable not to lose user data by saving it in advance using the “Synchronization” function. The procedure for reinstalling Opera is described in detail in this material. Use the instructions from there to solve this problem.

Playback

Is there really no other way to listen to music other than Shuffle? Why can't I listen to all the albums in order? I can’t listen to one album on a loop - if I play it, upon completion, Yama will slip something from the “rock” genre, and it will be the most hackneyed and popular track of the artist from my library.

The shuffle playback itself is simply awful, especially if you have a lot of performers from different genres. The algorithm does not stop at a particular genre or artist for more than one track; listening turns into an idiotic vinaigrette of all the “most popular”.

If shuffle is disabled, playback will definitely start from the top, most hackneyed and popular song of the artist.

Music is disabled in the Opera tab

There are cases when a user, through negligence, while navigating between Opera tabs, turns off the sound on one of them. The fact is that in the latest versions of Opera, like other modern browsers, the function of muting the sound on individual tabs has been implemented. This tool is especially relevant given that some sites do not provide the ability to turn off background sound on a resource.

To check if a tab is muted, simply hover your cursor over it. If a symbol with a crossed out speaker appears on the tab, it means the music is turned off. To turn it on, you just need to click on this symbol.

Genres and tags

This is the real root of all problems. All other problems follow from this, in particular with recommendations.

Look at how many genres Yama has limited himself to. For example, “Rap and hip-hop” can only be foreign and Russian. For comparison, the list of subgenres from the public Wikipedia includes 24 types, provided that Wikipedia knows nothing about Russian rap.

The user has two options for how to deal with the genres that interest him. The first is a terrible menu of dropdown buttons that are not clear how to use. The second is a cemetery with pictures, organized according to an unclear principle. As you can see, in neither case was it possible to organize the information conveniently or understandably. There are very few genres and subgenres; their connections and intersections cannot be seen. It’s also impossible to find out which of them are interesting (or potentially interesting) to me.

In the Pit, it is rare for an artist to include at least three genres in their description, when in reality most famous artists play at the intersection of three or four genres, and a single genre does not characterize a group or artist completely, but rather works more like a tag. What can we say about those guys who, during their existence, changed genres, musical instruments and composition.

Additional programs

But that's not all! There are several other reasons why music does not play in Opera. For example, every user should know that for music and video to work, you need to install an additional utility. It's called FlashPlayer. Its absence makes it impossible to work with media files in the browser.

Also, music (and video too) will not work if the version of the specified application is outdated. From time to time the browser itself will offer an update. There is no point in refusing.

In any case, if audio and video in the browser (not necessarily in Opera) do not want to work, you need to make sure that FlashPlayer is available. If it is not there, install it. If available, update. Did not help? Then you can use a few more tricks.

Recommendations

The most important thing in any music service is recommendations. The service should be concerned about the conversion and loyalty of its users. Why else would you come to a music service if not to search for new music?

Yama's recommendations are not recommendations, in fact. These are the three most popular groups among other listeners of the selected artist.

The most important and most failed part of Yandex.Music. It’s easy to verify this, just go to the page of any very popular group, for example, Nirvana.

These are the recommendations the service gives us. Those who listen to Nirvana also like Peppers, Marilyn Manson and Linkin Park. In the “Similar Artists” section you can learn a lot of new things. For example, that Nirvana is similar to Bloodhound Gang, Offspring, Queen. The list of groups similar to Nirvana can be continued endlessly: Gorillaz, Guano Apes, Muse, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit. But there won’t be any performers really similar to this group on the list.

Somehow it turned out that groups playing in the “grunge” genre are not found in the “Similar” section. For some reason, Perl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden are not here. Yes, you can check it yourself - go to the recommendations for your favorite artist sometime.

By the way, pay attention to what genres are used in the “Recommended” section. It is not surprising that there is such a mess here - these are the “rock” and “alternative” tags, under which you can get anything at all. Thank you that at least the Kino group is not here. Oh, yes, it’s not just “rock”, but “Russian rock”.

It seems like the music service's job is mainly to recommend new music to its listeners. It would seem that what’s so difficult about cataloging names and genres of music, and then making recommendations based on this data? Yandex has a better idea; it recommends listening to music that is listened to by people who like the same things as you. Instead of a music lover friend, this is a fool who has picked up the top skills - he doesn’t really understand music, but he’s always happy to give a recommendation. Most often this is the most obvious, annoying music.

User loyalty is supported not only by the player, but also by creating a space for music connoisseurs and regular listeners. This requires content, there are no problems with this in the modern world, but will I find something interesting for myself here?

Yama's recommendations start with what I already listen to most often. It’s so stupid that I don’t even want to describe it - I have 3 artists in my recommendations that I like, and if I press the button, three more appear, and not a single new one! Why even recommend something to me that I already know, and even more so, listened to this week?

The recommendation service itself is extremely unresponsive. He does not react, for example, to the fact that I like the artists he suggests, and does not offer me new ones instead.

"Curve" installation

The next problem does not occur very often, but it does occur. It is very difficult to notice it. The thing is that if music and video are not played immediately after installing Opera, the reason may be that the application was installed incorrectly. It is also sometimes called “curve”. During initialization, a small glitch occurs, which leads to incorrect installation and malfunction of the program.

Music doesn't play in Opera from the very beginning of installing the browser? Then the best thing to do is uninstall it and install it again. It's likely that this will help. If the problem is a “crooked” installation, then the method will actually work.

Viruses

The first reason for the mentioned failure is the presence of viruses in the operating system. What to do?

Can:

• reinstall the OS;
• clean your PC from malicious files.

Let's focus on the second option. If Yandex.Music does not work, you will have to:

1. Launch any antivirus and start a deep scan of your PC.
2. Remove all dangerous objects.
3. Place residual files in “Quarantine” and, if possible, delete them.
4. To restart a computer.
5. Reinstall the browser you are using. This step is optional.

Now it’s clear what to do if Yandex.Music doesn’t work. This is only one of the possible scenarios. It doesn't happen that often.

Adobe Flash

Yandex.Music doesn't work? Often the problem is caused by a failure of Flash Player.

To correct the situation, you can:

1. Open "Plugins" in your browser and disable one of the versions of FlashPlayer. This step is relevant if there are several versions of the corresponding software.
2. Enable Flash Player. This can be done in the “Plugins” menu of a particular Internet browser.
3. Go to the official FlashPlayer website, download and install the latest version of the player.

As a rule, after this the problem disappears. What should you do if, even after all the steps taken, Yandex.Music does not work in Google Chrome?

Music does not play on social networks

Social networks are a repository for a huge number of media files. If suddenly the video or music stops playing, the reason is often the lack of a Flash player in the browser. Adobe Flash Player will help correct the situation. The plugin is distributed free of charge and is very easy to install.

First, check to see if you have it installed, but just disabled. To do this, enter opera:plagins in the address bar. In the window that opens, find the player in the list and look at its status. If you find a component responsible for playing music, you will need to visit the developers’ website.

1. Click Download.
2. In the window that opens, click Launch.
3. Allow the program to make changes on the computer.
4. Follow the recommendations of the Installation Wizard by clicking Next and Finish.

Cache and cookies

Why doesn't Yandex.Music work? The reason may be that the browser cache is full. What to do in this case?

But not always. If Opera does not play music from Vkontakte and other sites, it is likely that there is simply no free space on the computer. Or the PC registry is full of information. This is the most common scenario. Usually, under these circumstances, neither video nor music will work. And in all browsers.

The problem can be solved simply - the hard drive, especially the partition with the operating system, needs to be cleared of information. And the registry will also need to be freed.
